Hey Jessica, speaking as a dentist from the UK here - we don't recommend flossing kids teeth, and actually I don't know of any child who would happily let their parents do this! Cavities form with a combination of 3 things: bacteria, sugar, and time. Brushing helps with reducing bacteria, but no amount of brushing will stop cavities forming if there is too much sugar in the diet. I honestly think this is the issue, especially with hidden sugars these days. I'd recommend try keeping sugary snacks to mealtimes, and always drink some plain water to wash the sugar down afterwards. Hope this gets to you and helps!
Sugary bevs and snacks for sure. RDH here 🦷 If she is sipping on something besides water for “long” periods between meals that is probably the issue. Only water between meals. 😉 Don’t beat yourself up. All we can do is move forward.

I believe this too! My daughter has never been a sweets person and very seldom would crave sugar. She hasn’t had a cavity at 21!! Meanwhile I’ve had so many in my life and yes I’m a big sugar person 😞
Hey Jessica, I just wanna warn you about the flat top Blackstone grill because my dad has one and we’ve had this issue- if you don’t season it with oil and heat it up every so often, it will rust and can be hard to clean. If it rusts, don’t throw it away but just get a cleaning kit and scrape it etc. there are TH-cam videos for cleaning them if they rust. Just don’t want y’all to panic if you see rust like we did!
I've seen on a video somewhere that when they build grills no matter what brand they run it thru a thin line of paint that just barely covers the grill so when we bought ours you can get high heat spray paint and we painted it before use and it lasted much longer .
We love our Blackstone. Have had it for two years, and have had no problems with rust. Making sure you get a good season on it, and keeping it well oiled it’s key. Much like a cast iron. Also, maybe having a nice grill cover helps.

Its awesome both parents can attend kids schools and pre school. I missed my sons first day of school, twice, because of work. So did my husband. What a blessing to be able to take time off whenever you want for your kids' appointments and school events. That's how life should be but the reality is different! 😊

About Genevieve at the dentist..So I’m 35 now and still have this same aversion I’m about to explain: My mom would do my nails and whenever she would take my nail polish off I would cry and squirm (she thought maybe I had cuts and the remover was hurting me) I also would freak out when the dentist would dry / pack my cheek with anything. Some people cannot stand the feeling of cotton/gauze/certain napkins. Just a theory 🤷🏻♀️

For Celsius, the sparkling ones that are fizzy like Lacroix are way better than the vibe ones. They are energy drinks so just treat them like a red bull. Learned my lesson, I didn't realize they were so caffeineted and I had 2 in one day😭 I felt like I was a bumble bee learning how to fly😂, yikes!
4 children. They each had their own color. Red/pink, blue, yellow,green. Toothbrushes, cups, Christmas wrapping paper, whatever. Their in their 30s an 40s now. It really worked. I thought someone would get tired of their color but it was never an issue. 😅

It could be sensory issues. My son was fine with things I thought would be painful & too much for him, but anything put in his mouth with any texture or stickiness & he would lose it.
When I had my wisdom teeth removed, the things that made me absolutely insane was the gauze that they had packed into my mouth to help with the bleeding. I literally spat it out the second I was home and felt the the bleeding had calmed. It was a sensory nightmare. I guess I am saying, I get why Gigi lost her mind, that’s the part that would make me cry too. I hope her next one is easier on everyone. You are NOT a bad parent- my kids had lots of cavities one time, the dentist said those baby teeth are really susceptible to citric acid, so juice,gummy things,etc. I started using ProBiora probiotics for me and the kids and the next two times we went- NO CAVITIES! I think it really helped because we’re still horrible about flossing the kids😬

Gigi is so sweet. My youngest gets sedated because he's an whole entire wreck at the dentist, and it was just building. Now he doesn't mind or have anxiety. My older never had any issues... like, I could tell he looked a bit nervous, but stoicism kicked in. 😅 Me, I like to be gassed. 😊 The people coming towards my face is just over-the-top for me. Her free toothbrush request is adorable. Also, look at Felicity's baby feet curled up on the bed and her wide walking stance. 😍😍 Sooooo sweet! I tried the puff pastry pizza with zucchini and it was delish!
Yesss to laughing gas! 🙌🏼 Also what helped my girls when they were little is that there were so many of their favorite shows that had a dentist/filling episode. So I’d always have them watch them before we went to the dentist. And then just explained everything again. Gigi seems like the type that likes to have allll the details, so maybe it would help to go step by step through it all. Then when the dentist or hygienist is doing something different you can tell her “ok Gigi this is the part where they are going to put the cotton ball in your cheek to keep everything clean and dry from spit. And next they are going to put the special princess tooth filler in your tooth.” Whatever works am I right lol. It is so hard going through these things but you’re doing great♥️
My son had to go under for cavities. Flossing was what got us as well! The pediatric dentist chose to do 7 caps because he said that ensures fillings don’t fall out. Our son occasionally grinds his teeth so that was a worry. Not to mention it was the only person in a 3 hr radius who would work on our then 3yr old. It was a very expensive mistake on our part. I also don’t remember ever flossing as a kid either. And I barely had any cavities until adulthood. So apparently kids must have a lot more hidden sugars in their diet now days. 🤷♀️
Something my dentist told us was kids used to drink more tap water. There is fluoride in tap water but so many people have switched over to purified water which has no fluoride that more and more children are having cavities.
Color Box- We got one for our kids at Christmas a couple years ago and they LOVED it. It was a surprise Christmas morning with two boxes of jumbo crayons. Awesome wow factor on Christmas morning for $30ish.
Something you may need to consider, Gigi may metabolize anesthetic at a faster rate. I metabolize anesthetic at TRIPLE the rate of the average person. No one ever believes me, dentists, anesthesiologists, nurses. Finally a dentist believed me and gave me double the anesthetic and decreased the scope of work per session. The little paper thing they have you bite on hit my nerve in a way that sent lightening and numbness through my jaw. I was too young to describe it when it first happened.

As someone that works as a dental assistant, that’s usually when kids lose it! It’s either the cotton in their mouth or the taste of the materials were using. Laughing gas will definitely help.

When my children had cavities the dentist recommended we try a water pick, not sure it helped but they loved it and used it daily. Next biggie was wisdom teeth.
I like the skin tint but I mix it with my BB cream and it is great! Lasts through my workout, not too matte or too glowy, and stays all day. I use one pump of the skin tint and two small pumps of the BB cream. My husband just got the Blackstone 4 burner and he loves it! Plus it doesn't heat up the house in the summer.
We love our blackstone- I can’t believe y’all have gone this long without one! Especially since you already cook with cast iron so you’re used to having to season and maintain it. We love doing pancakes, eggs and bacon- it’s so easy!
I was a fairly heavy weight lifter up until about last Christmas, when I experienced a wrist injury. Since then, I’ve had to dial back on the amount of weight. My PT suggested experimenting with more reps, less weight. Holy cow, talk about a challenge! Where I used to do 20 lb bicep curls, 12 reps, I now do 15 reps with 12 lb. Still a challenge, but easier on the joints. You’re doing it right!
So same thing happened to me in terms of dental work… so Luna is a month younger than Gigi. She is turning 5 soon. So she has several fillings needed. We did the same as you and she had an issue with the texture in the spacer. We tried laughing gas and she could not tolerate it so now we need to do it under anesthesia but at least we are getting them all done at the same time. I did not cry but definitely had a few days of feeling down on myself for being such a bad mom. Your story made me feel at least a little better. Kids have cavities and dental work is not easy and we need to cut ourselves some slack. All will be good, all will be good!
We had the same experience with my son at the dentist’s office when he was the same age as Gigi 😢 And we were diligent with flossing daily, brushing with an electric toothbrush twice a day (at least) and using mouthwash. The numbing injection worked for the first half but then he cried so much we had to use nitrous. Traumatic for the both of us. I hope your next trip to the dentist is much smoother. Did the Dentist recommend a water flosser? I finally got one and it works awesome except for the stubborn meat trying to get out but if you don’t floss regularly then later on in life expensive crowns come next! I got the Phillips Sonicare portable one and it’s so easy.

Hey! I know you're not a big primer gal, but I use the Elf power grip primer with the 24-Hr skin tint. I also use a flat kabuki brush to apply. Loving that combo!
To make you feel better- I have 3 kids, all brushed but none of them flossed. It wasn't until my last one that we ended up with cavities. . . between 4 teeth, so 8 total fillings 😮💨

I like the skin tint but I mix it with my BB cream and it is great! Lasts through my workout, not too matte or too glowy, and stays all day. I use one pump of the skin tint and two small pumps of the BB cream. My husband just got the Blackstone 4 burner and he loves it! Plus it doesn't heat up the house in the summer.

I was a fairly heavy weight lifter up until about last Christmas, when I experienced a wrist injury. Since then, I’ve had to dial back on the amount of weight. My PT suggested experimenting with more reps, less weight. Holy cow, talk about a challenge! Where I used to do 20 lb bicep curls, 12 reps, I now do 15 reps with 12 lb. Still a challenge, but easier on the joints. You’re doing it right!

We ALWAYS opt for the nitros for our son for cavities! He gets overwhelmed easily and the gas keeps him calm and happy.
So same thing happened to me in terms of dental work… so Luna is a month younger than Gigi. She is turning 5 soon. So she has several fillings needed. We did the same as you and she had an issue with the texture in the spacer. We tried laughing gas and she could not tolerate it so now we need to do it under anesthesia but at least we are getting them all done at the same time. I did not cry but definitely had a few days of feeling down on myself for being such a bad mom. Your story made me feel at least a little better. Kids have cavities and dental work is not easy and we need to cut ourselves some slack. All will be good, all will be good!

We had the same experience with my son at the dentist’s office when he was the same age as Gigi 😢 And we were diligent with flossing daily, brushing with an electric toothbrush twice a day (at least) and using mouthwash. The numbing injection worked for the first half but then he cried so much we had to use nitrous. Traumatic for the both of us. I hope your next trip to the dentist is much smoother. Did the Dentist recommend a water flosser? I finally got one and it works awesome except for the stubborn meat trying to get out but if you don’t floss regularly then later on in life expensive crowns come next! I got the Phillips Sonicare portable one and it’s so easy.
