Thanks for the vid. I just hit mine with the mower and launched the lever across the yard. I was worried I was gonna have to replace the whole tounge! Good info!
Everything is great. But...it looks like you still have some wobble on the ball even after the second try. Maybe the nut should be a little bit tighter (?)
10 cents Tip: sand rust, remove dirty grease underneath and prime and spray. Finish off topcoat over the zinc plate to stop next years rust. ReApply grease 15 cents Tip, nylon nut is one time use. In future, use a new nut each time removed.
According to the picture on the package that small steel plate should be installed before that short spring not after it. Plate then short spring then nut. Is that correct?
You are right about the picture, however it doesn't make sense to put it together that way. This video is over 2 years old and I haven't changed a single thing from how I put it together in the video and I haven't had a single problem with it. I also am using the trailer almost every day when I am not working on the ambulance (so 4 - 5 days a week) take it up and down some pretty nasty gravel roads and still no issues with it. The nut acts as a retention nut on the plate, which pushes down on the spring this way and keeps pressure on the hook on the inside.
I had to remove the rectangular washer altogether in order to have enough threading showing on the bolt (1 - 1&1/2 threads) to satisfy the safety warning. Think that's okay? I'll be checking it periodically to see if it needs tightening per the instructions and saving the washer in case there's room for it down the road after usage. Also my ball clamp sticks even when I unlock the coupler lock - I have to jiggle it extensively to get it to disengage. Not sure why.
I would honestly say so. Your best bet is to look at the shape of the hole on your trailer tongue and compare it to the shape of the bottom on the coupler.
Hey I’m not sure anyone else noticed this or not but your towing ball is loose. The nut that holds it on you can see moving back and forth in your video. Not good. i think my dad commented this because this was not me XD
@@hoffmanhandymanservice8292 No problem....I searched the one you got but saw the curt model. I ordered it this evening. Hope it works. I ran over mine tongue with my truck tire and snapped the old one. LOL
Try releasing some of the tension on the nut on the bottom. It doesn't have to be torqued all the way down. Just tight enough to where there is no play between the ball and the hitch.
@@Cambigdongbjj I really don't know. There really isn't a lot of parts to it for it to mess up like that. Maybe the handle/lever is defective? Only other thing I could think of is it may not be the same size ball and/or coupler.
Hoffman Handyman Service when I installed it I had the coupler open and u did it closed could that be the problem? I’m at work now won’t be able to mess with it for a little bit
Thank you!!! I’ve watched several videos and yours is the first to explain that the hook needs to go over the bar on the underside of the hitch.
Good info/video - I’ve had a trailer that’s been sitting outside for over a year that needs this - didn’t know a repair kit existed. Thanks much.
Wow you saved me!!! Thank you Sir! I fumbled for 2 days trying to figure it out. I’m sure you have helped countless people. Gracias. Gonzalo/Miami

Thank you for helping us old folks
You just saved me a huge headache. Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for the great video. It was a lot more simple then I imagined.
i had a 2inch coupler with a bad latch. all i could find locally was a 1&7/8". works perfect on a 2" or a 1&7/8. ball hitch now
Everything is great. But...it looks like you still have some wobble on the ball even after the second try. Maybe the nut should be a little bit tighter (?)
thank you! just what I needed to see!
Just a crazy question about your installation. Would it be easier to thread the nut if you took the tension off the lever ( open it)?
Helped me out so
Much! Thanks man

Thanks just what I needed
Thanks. Very helpful for a (should be) simple) fix.
That bottom plate is supposed to be turned sideways! Otherwise it can still come lose
I had the same thoughts and went back later and changed it, however it does appear the way I first installed it on the diagram from the manufacturer.
Thanks for the video. Just what I was looking for.
Nice job Son! 👍

Hoffman Handyman Service I noticed that too. Even on the piece that broke off it has the flat piece first then the spring.
Thanks. Sometimes the simplest of things 🤪
Very, very helpful-thanks!
Thank you! I'm just glad that they make those. That was a bad way to start the day!

Thank you! I wasn't sure what to do when I ran over mine and broke it. This saved me a bunch of headache.
Awesome, thanks much, great video!!
This video save me money 💰
Thank you
Confused. That package shows the plate fitting on before the last spring & nut. But you put the plate on after the spring. Why?
Great video thank you!!!!!!
Semi-unrelated, but was your ball loose and was that part of the plan?
What did you run over it for? Just saying I just ran over mine
My kit has an extra washer not shown in this video.
so are the kits pretty much universal? they fit any tongue?
I would honestly say so. Your best bet is to look at the shape of the hole on your trailer tongue and compare it to the shape of the bottom on the coupler.

having trouble getting the ball in after replacing… all 2” so idk what the problem is
I have heard that them replacement go by weight and if u get the wrong weight size even all 2 inch it won't let the ball go in
The diagram shows the plate going before the last spring. The company needs to fix that before they kill someone
I just found a kit from CURT on EBAY out of California for 9.13 with free shipping.
Doesn't surprise me that Curt would have something like that. I honestly didn't think to look there! Good find and great info! Thanks!

Mine for some reason won’t shut at all and I got it adjusted all the way

Hoffman Handyman Service I tried that I got it to were the bolt is flush with the screw and still won’t close

Where did u get that
I got it at a local farm equipment store, but I have seen them on Amazon.
You can buy them at Tractor Supply and Northern Tools.
