In 1967 I purchased my 1st fixed blade knife, the Puma White Hunter. Many decades and knives later I still have and use this knife. Thanks to you, Vinnie in Ireland (Vinnie’s Day Off on TH-cam), and Felix Immler in Switzerland I have developed a new appreciation of folding knives. There is not much “knife stuff” that cannot be accomplished with them. This video has gotten me thinking of expanding my 4 fixed blade Puma knife collection to include one of their folding knives. Thank you.
Concise, informative, thorough presentation. Part way through I had a question, that you then answered ten seconds later. Excellent. Until now, I'd never seen a review of Puma knives, and so I'd never considered them for purchase. Thanks to you, I have a new found respect for them, and will consider them more closely. Beautiful knife, by the way. Thank you.
Thank you Stefan. As a fairly new subscriber, can I just say how much I enjoy your videos ( and how interesting they are too, of course!). I have found no-one on TH-cam to match your combination of sheer professionalism and excellent attention to detail.
Here in Germany Lex Barker is best known for playing characters from Karl May's novels. On the other hand, the extremely popular German writer Karl May is almost completely unknown in the United States.
Hi Stefan, Thank you for these videos. Definetely thank you for the interesting back ground information. And yes, I did watch and enjoy Old Shatterhand and Winnetou as a youngster. Actually watched Der Schat am Silbersee recently on youtube. You made me look at European knives again. Can you do a review (or did you do it allready) of the Solingen Schneitteufel (fixed blade, leather sheath with an Indian Chief imprinted as a profile, leather stacked handle. very sturdy) ? A knife my father gave to me when I was 6 or 7. I still own it (54 now). I did my entire youth with it (boy scouts, camping, hiking, etc...). Even took it with me everywhere on a 3 year stretch in the military. It never let me down. (I would love to find a new one - maybe do a trip to Solingen ? ). Anyway, thank you and keep up the good work. Alain
I'm glad you found it enjoyable, thank you! I wish I still had one of my first knives. How about making a short video on your teenage Puma knife? I guess a lot of your subscribers would appreciate it (I definitely would).
I can't say I'm over the moon about this knife. Very 70's/80's and not in a good way. What I am interested in though is the saw-design on the II and III which seems to include a bottle opener at the base. Very well thought-out and quite the funny little addition. Unt ja, the verobose etching on the blade is trop beaucoup. As always, your videos are the standard to which the rest of us aspire.
I find certain models from Puma's folding knives to be "suspiciously" similar to other Hartkopf's folders (same scales' and blades' designs and using the same type of stainless steel and also the same style of lettering on the blades). Are both brands made in the same factory? Or...? 🤔
Another great review, Stefan. I can see that your channel will be dangerous for my finances: so many lovely traditional knives to covet! In fact, I just ordered a le Thiers knife after watching one of your videos.
great little knife, I'm starting to get more interested in german knives thanks to your reviews, wich are very good by the way. what can you tell me about herbertz knives?, they are relatively popular in portugal and with a good price
Bitte gehe nie in "Messer-Rente"! Hau rein Stephan
A typical spey blade looks a little bit different. The shape of the tip is asymmetrical. Please watch my video on the Case Trapper knife, it comes with a typical spey blade as a secondary blade.
I too would like to see sth more upmarket at the front end, but I have to say that maybe it's a bit silly?what I mean is I really love Victorinox steel and I don't want it any different, the ease of use and maintenance just make it so easy to have a super sharp knife at the ready, often for me much sharper in reality than my 'superior' blades. same like with Case knives...but then again Case are usually a bit cheaper, model dependent of course.
My Puma hunter came totally blunt and useless. Not happy. I bought it direct from the Puma factory in Germany. They could have at least sharpened the blade. it's totally unsharp.
LOL ;-) Machs gut! :-)
My puma hunter came blunt. Why didn't they sharpen the blade in the factory ? A Mora knife is sharper from the factory than my german made puma hunter.
The Stoned Videogame Nerd My new Puma Gold Hunter is woeful and poorly built. It has inconsistencies all over it. It's poorly, cheaply and quickly made. Nothing about my new Solngen made Gold Hunter is quality. I should do a review of it. It's hopeless. Nothing is even, square, finished or treated well. I won't ever buy another Puma knife.

I just bought one of these from a store on eBay. I can’t wait to carry it

If like the famous German motorcar engineering . I imagine they are of perfect and beyond quality.
I hate to break this to you, but neither the cars nor the knives are up to their former glory.
What an awesome knife. And those stag handles are fabulous!!! They're truly amazing, just like the review! Take care!!

I really enjoyed this video, Stefan. Very educational. I actually own a puma knife that I bought as a teenager. I haven't used it in quite some time.
Beautiful PUMA knife and as always an excellent presentation.
I can't find the dent of Rockwell hardness test on any of my Puma folding knives either.
Beautiful knife and excellent video. 👍🏻

Great looking traditioanl folder. I enjoyed the review, I always like how you roll in some history. Good job Stefan.
Just ordered from Amazon this will be my new edc knive
Do you still carry it?
Stefan, I have been hunting for more than 50 years. I prefer a spear point for a hunting knife, less chance of puncturing the hide or the rumen.
Ich bekomm bei deinen Reviews immer Hunger :)
Gut gemacht
Great review as always. Thanks for sharing, Stefan.
Your knife reviews are amazing.Well done and greatings from Holland.

Thank you, Jesse! Which handle material did you choose?

Great review and great knife! 👍🏻
Thanks for watching! Puma is not only one of Germany's oldest cutelry companies, it's also one of Germany's oldest registered trademarks.
Another First Class video from you! Thanks for the review.

Can I purchase this product is Bharat ?
Come on, how am I supposed to know that?

Herbertz is just a trading company, they do not make knives. The knives sold under the Herbertz brand are imported from China.

Thank you Stefan, every time I see one of your vids, I get a bit smarter:-)
Sad that they never ask questions of these topics during a quiz:(
Thank you, Mark!
A nice and obviously well-made pocket knife for general use, but for the price they could be more ambitious regarding the blade steel in my opinion.
Thank you, my friend!
Das freut mich! Danke!
Another great review, Stefan! :-)
Vielen Dank, Lars!
nice review, but isn't this blade a spayblade and not a spearpoint ? i could be wrong ofcourse. just looking to learn
Great Video. Thank you. Nick.
Vielen Dank für Deine Weiterempfehlungen! Liebe Grüße ins Ruhrgebiet!
I chose the Wenge wood because of its durability and rich dark colour.
Sehr gut messer.

Thank you!! Very good review!!
Beautiful knife
Nice to look at indeed. Thanks for showing this beautiful blade.

That was a Top notch review
Thanks for watching, Apfelwein! ;-)

Yes, but you need to have a hunting license.
Great looking knife, poor steel, they should upgrade the steel to make this knife competitive.
Well, I don't see these bits of information as useless. Quite the contrary! Alas, not everybody shares the same interest in history and esthetics.

I know. I also wish it was the other way round. ;-)
are people alowed to hunt in Germany
Nice review. I'd echo what many others have said. Very poor steel for an expensive made in Germany knife. Unsustainable.
Thanks for watching!
*Very easy to use and empty.*
all i can look at is that salami
Yes, TH-cam is great for learning useless things. ;-)
