Best decision ever or worst mistake? I hope that you found this video helpful and learned from some of my experiences from this incredibly difficult decision. Let me know if you have any questions or just want to share your perspectives! 🙌❤
This really came at the right time for me to reassure myself I haven’t done the wrong thing. I quit a high paying job I hated and am finally doing what I love. I don’t know what the future will hold, but it can’t be worse than staying in that job. My only regret is it took me until my fifties to realise this. You have inspired me.
I'm so glad this resonated with you! It's never too late to pursue what you love, and it takes a lot of courage to make such a significant change. The future is full of possibilities, and doing what you love can lead to unexpected and fulfilling opportunities. My Dad is reinventing himself at 68! Thank you for sharing your journey-your story is inspiring, too. Wishing you all the best on this new path!
"Detaching from all outcomes". And love the point that sometimes a job may not be the safest option, it really makes us reexamine what we want to get the most out of life and our time.
"A job is not the most secure option." I was recently laid off and your video expresses a lot of the same feelings I'm having. Since losing my job I'm volunteering and doing things I enjoy but never had time for. I didn't choose to leave and I liked my job, but I don't miss it. I miss the money and stability it gave me and navigating an unexpected layoff without a big financial safety net has caused us to downsize our life and live more frugally. But I'm fortunate to have a very supportive partner, no kids and some part time work that helps while I'm figuring out what's next. But you're right I'm learning that maybe 9-5 work isn't for everybody. This freedom is a joy I've never felt before in a job. I just need to figure out how to translate doing what I enjoy into consistent income.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It's definitely challenging to navigate an unexpected layoff, especially without a big financial safety net. I've been through this during the financial crisis and it was extremely scary. It's great to hear that you're finding joy and freedom in doing things you enjoy, even if it means living more frugally. Having a supportive partner can make a huge difference during times like these. Turning your passions into consistent income is a journey, but it sounds like you're on the right path. Stay positive and keep exploring new opportunities-you never know what might come your way. You've got this!
Watching this video about quitting the 9 to 5 grind really resonates with me. It's a powerful reminder that life is too short to be spent doing something that doesn't fulfill us. Thanks Laurie
I’m currently at the top of my game but your comment of “having lost my passion” is spot on. The exciting part is I’ve known and have been preparing myself mentally and financially to quit in early 2025. Laurie, your vids are a huge help!
There's nothing quite like the freedom to live life on your own terms. It opens up so many opportunities for growth, and I value freedom of time above anything else 🙌
Thank you for this video. We rarely take time to reassess our lives when we’re working and then we just keep going until we retire. I tried to quit my job last year and then delayed because I was moving. Things shifted in my industry so I was just laid off. I’m so thankful I had already saved money to be able to take a break. Now I can combine my severance package with that savings and really take a break to figure out what I want to do next.
I'm so glad this video resonated with you. It sounds like you've been given a unique opportunity to pause, reflect, and truly reassess your next steps-something many of us don't get until much later. While being laid off can feel unsettling, it can also be a chance for a fresh start, and it's inspiring to hear that you’ve been proactive in preparing for this moment. Take this time to listen to yourself and explore what truly brings you fulfillment. It’s a gift that many don’t get, and I'm excited to see what new possibilities unfold for you. Wishing you all the best on your journey ahead! 🌱
Honestly, I work in tech start up and so ready to start on my own. I am on the talent and HR side, you are so right about jobs not being safe. You would be amazed how I’ve heard more senior People/HR teams talk about lay offs like it’s just another day, not even really caring about the peoples lives it will impact.
Your insight from the HR side is really eye-opening. Good luck with starting your own thing-I’m sure your empathy will help you build something great for others! 🙌
This video & your channel come to me at a great time. 5 years ago I was forced to give up a huge promotion that I worked my entire career for. I was a wealth advisor & was about to become the director of my Home Office. I suddenly couldn’t walk or stand one day. I was diagnosed in 2021 with SPS. Working is not an option or the stimulation with trigger episodes of tremendous muscle spams. I was 45 & I’m now 50. My Dr told me to write or draw. Well I actually am a self taught artist, I took the opportunity to learn digital art to incorporate with my traditional painting. I’m happy, & just now getting over the loss of my career, I now know it was an opportunity to free myself to live in the moment, as true mindfulness keeps me in a state of calmness to avoid episodes. I would love to learn how to motivate others by sharing my story.
Quit my job week ago. Have about one year of financial cushion. Trying to build by own business. Very risky, as I have toddler and our country in the middle of war with russia. But have no regrets so far. Feel so much happier already. ☺
Same boat. I’m in Fintech. Just stumbled across your channel & subbed ☝🏻. Took me 3+ years of procrastination to launch my channel as well. Slow growth but glad I started
Thank you for sharing your journey and for subscribing to my channel! It's great to hear that you finally launched your own channel after overcoming procrastination-slow growth is still growth, and starting is often the hardest part. Great to meet here on TH-cam 🙌
"Freedom has more value than money and status" - amen sister. I am very inspired and moved by your philosophy of follow your bliss. Is there a book or audiobook in your future? ✌
Thank you! 🙌 I'm really glad my message resonated with you. Amen indeed. Your support means a lot. A book is definitely something I'm considering for the near future. Stay tuned!
It’s so weird to hear that freedom to do what you want is more important than money. But what would you do in that freedom / time without financial resources? There is hardly any leisure activity that is free. Plus I assume it depends where you live.. anyone I know who does freelance work or is an entrepreneur works 30-50% more than someone employed with a company (full time jobs are restricted to 40 hours a week). So again, how is it more freedom to leave employment?
You bring up some really valid points. It’s true that financial resources play a crucial role in what we can do with our time, and that finding the balance between freedom and financial stability can be challenging. Freelancing or entrepreneurship often requires more hours, especially in the beginning, but for some, the trade-off is worth it because of the flexibility and control over their work. Ultimately, I think it’s about finding your personal version of “enough”-where you feel fulfilled both financially and in how you spend your time. Everyone’s balance looks different, and what matters most is what feels right for you. 🙌
I can't tell you how I want to do it, but still stiuck as needs must. Bills etc. I am working soooo hard on my youtube channel and want it to work out. Until then , carry on.
I completely understand how challenging it can be when you have to balance your passion with the realities of life and bills. It’s clear that you’re working so hard on your TH-cam channel, and that dedication will pay off in time. Stay focused, keep creating, and know that even small progress is still progress. You're building something meaningful for yourself, and I'm rooting for you! Keep going, one step at a time.
On one hand I truly respect your decision to turn the page and quit your job, but it hurts to see someone like you, a guru of the field take that path. I wish you the best in your alternet endevours. Here is another great book/memoir that you might be interested in: "Ditching Success? A Career Ventured; A Life Regained" by Batoul Ajlouni.
Thank you and I appreciate that. It was over 7 years ago, and one of the best decision I've ever made to pursue what I love to do today. I love book recommendations, and will check this one out! 🙌
Just got laid off after 10 years. After all these years of helping the company in implementing projects and make money, they just let me go! I feel broke and lost but will continue to kick on !
I'm really sorry to hear about your layoff. It's tough when you've dedicated so much time and effort to a company. At the same time, this can be a new beginning for you. Take time to reflect on your skills and passions-you have so much to offer. Stay strong and keep moving forward! 🙌

Well said 👏. It's important to have a financial backup to allow you to explore opportunities once you decided to leave your corporate job.

HR has no interest in selling goods or services. Something got broke. Self employment is the path.
For me, that felt like the right path, it may not be for everyone as self employment has its up and downs too. Maybe one for another video! 🙌
Really good of the reality advice for adults!!
Thank you!
Agree. Inspiring and your views resonated with me. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much! I'm glad my views resonated with you. Your support means a lot. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
I needed it so much. Perfect motivation to quit. Thank you ❤
I'm glad this was helpful! You've got this 🙌
@ I actually already got fired. Figuring how to do it further. The only thing I know for 100 percent - never going back to office job
I really love your speed. You are a good motivation person ❤

Yes I hate the 9 to 5 and I hate the city I have the job in. These 2 are enough for me to let go

Yeah but you are talented. I am not and cannot do anything as self employed.
