  • This Video demonstrates a little trick to change Presets in Guitar rig using the Program Change in Ableton Live Clips. This is a very handy trick for Live Performers.

Alternatively, you can download these MaxforLive tools so you can midi map or use Clip Automation to send Program Change.

Make sure you use VST, not AU on Mac, otherwise, it's impossible to send Midi to the Audio track. Also on Apple Silicon, not all VSTs are seen (like Guitar Rig 6). The cure is to launch Ableton in a Rosetta mode.

Dude, This is friggin amazing. Thank you so much, never realised you could do this in Ableton. I've always had numerous channels each running an instance of Guitar Rig with a different patch and just used the Push Controller to bring up the volume of whichever sound I need, this is a well better method and nowhere near as cpu intensive. Another little tip is to turn the loop function off on each dummy clip, otherwise it will always be counting.

Thanks Jimmy, appreciate the clear quick solution. I'm using Guitar Rig 5 inside Ableton Live 9 with my Fishman Triple Play as the controller. Very handy to be able to control those GR5 program changes right from my 4 way switch on the Fishman. It's a dream come true to finally have wireless control of Guitar Rig presets from the Fishman 4 way. :-)

Great video! Does anyone know how to change through a preset folder with the stomp boxes on a Behringer fcb 1010? the information is thin on the ground, thanks.

Great tutorial! I have it setup just like in your tutorial and working great thanks to you except I want to send the same program change message to multiple channels simultaneously in order to switch off the guitar rig effect on one channel and switch on a separate guitar rig effect on another channel. Basically just like you have it but resulting in different guitar sounds going to different channels. Problem is, the Midi To section only gives me the option of one location. Help please!
