    This was a great tutorial! I watched a couple other vids on this subject that wasted a lot of time beating around the bush and ultimately made using the chain selector sound more complicated than it is - leaving me feeling like it was just too much for me to learn. This vid, however, got right to the point and clearly explained how chain selector can be utilized for this really critical functionality and I feel like I fully understand it now. Thank you!

    Just watched a whole bunch of videos, and this was the most concise and surprisingly intuitive answer to a simple task, that can have complex solutions.

    Is it possible for you to do a video showing your live set? After you referenced that it would be confusing, I cant help but want to know what it looks like. If it's top secret, I do understand that as well. Thanks.

    I wish Ableton would create a Instrument Rack device which actually is managing the CPU and RAM properly. Like Gigperformer does. You know: Unloading the not-selected Instruments out of the RAM instead of keeping it there all the time

    After spending too many hours on this, I finally figured out why mapping the power on to the chain selector wasn't working for me. In the mapping parameters, make sure you have the chain selector's min/max going from 0-127 - I had adjusted mine to match how many instruments in the rack, i.e. 1-17 for 17 instruments.

    HI nice video! really usefull, I have a question, how I can a loop in the same channel with this dummy clips? because I trying but its imposible. thank you, cheers.

    • @PyramindSF
      @PyramindSF  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This depends on whether you're trying to play back midi notes from a pre-made loop, create a new midi loop, or create a new audio loop. For the first option, you can just write midi notes in the dummy clip that has the preset change automation in it, making it no longer be a dummy clip, but still serve the same function. if you want to make a new midi loop while performing live, you can use the midi overdub function in Ableton to record your midi notes into one of the dummy clips live, or, you can set up an additional track to receive the midi input of your controller and set the track with the dummy clips and instrument device on it to receive midi from that track. That way you can record new midi loops in one track, and still freely use the dummy clips to change presets while those midi loops play back. As far as looping audio goes, this will unfortunately not work, since once you've recorded audio in a loop, you cannot change the preset sound of it without recording an entirely separate audio loop using the other preset sound.

    This is a great technique. The only issue is if you have a track spread out over different scenes and are trying to use the dummy on the first scene to change instrument, that automation won't cary over when trying to record a new clip using the same patch in a later scene (i.e. the creation of a new clip resets the chain selector)... Any idea for a workaround?

    • @Nestico87
      @Nestico87 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can't you just duplicate the dummy track for the next scene?

    I have a few midi controllers that I use for live performance with multiple musicians and I midi mapped the macro knobs on said controllers to control separate parameters on the instrument racks on each separate track (say synth 1 on an arturia key lab 49 and a bass synth on an mpk mini) I midi mapped the macros on one controller to certain parameters. But, when I go to perform sometimes the knobs will control the parameters of the other synth or vice versa. I tried to assign each track to only receive midi information from one controller via the channels and "all ins." box. but, It's still not working. I'm also having an issue with mapping my korg nanopad's xy pad to be able to control x y grids like the chorus rate etc.... any tips or recommendations for videos to watch for help?

    I have a doubt, though: What if I need to filter my vsts with effects like EQ or Reverb? What could I do to give each VST its separated set of FXs?
    Thanks! :)

    I'm building a vocal chain and everytime I get to Chain 7 it introduces latency. Do you have any idea what could be causing this? I have my chain disabling the previous effects as you mentioned.

    • @PyramindSF
      @PyramindSF  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is most likely because whatever plugin you're using on chain 7 of your vocal FX rack is introducing latency. If you hover your mouse over that plugin and look at the info text on the very bottom of the Ableton window, it should tell you how many samples and miliseconds of latency the plugin introduces. to resolve this, you may need to switch to a zero-latency version of the plugin, or find another zero-latency plugin to do the same job.

    • @thekingoftheweirdos
      @thekingoftheweirdos 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I thought of that. but I don't believe that's the problem. For example I put effects in chain 6 then apply that to set number 6 and it works fine. I applied chain 6 to set 7 and now that set has latency. So using the the same preset on one set is fine, but just moving down one set introduces latency. I can't seem to figure out why. @@PyramindSF

    Great video however those are not presets, but racks. As far as I am concerned presets are inside of an instrrument.

    I’ll save you 8 minutes. You can record / encode automation into clips even if they’re not truly making sound or sending MIDI notes out.
