    I see many angry comments from people who speak at a good level of English, I'm learning now and for me, this video is useful. Look, the video name is 5 speaking activities, not how well I speak English, maybe the teacher is learning how to speak the language. So, we need to be more empathic.

    Good video! Three things I learned about teaching ESOL overseas: Avoid on-line TESOL courses like the plague. Many countries won't give you a visa if you have one, and many companies won't even consider you for employment if your degree was obtained on-line. Ditto for TESOL certs that are under 120 hours. (I’d go for 140 just to be safe.) Lastly, MEMORIZE Mark's English Grammar Shortcuts - saves a boat load of teaching headaches!

    Let's all agree on something: Yes, he does mispronounce a few words, and yes, his English is kind of "awkward" as I saw someone say, but that doesn't mean he CAN'T teach. About students picking up his accent, that may or may not happen, since having a native-english teacher doesn't really guarantee that students will pick up that accent.
    Getting back to the content and point of the video, ideas were good, I just don't understand if he took so much time explaining for the purpose of the video or if that's how he would actually do it in a class.

    • @bnighten
      @bnighten  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no! You’re missing out on such a great activity! For the lower levels, it’s great speaking practice (they can’t use a person more than once). For the upper levels, I embed vocabulary words in the ‘find someone who’ part, and each person who answers must use a different vocabulary word in their response. Or I’ll have them tell the story that enables them to say yes to the question. Sometimes I’ll have them report back to me in front of the class so that they have to really listen to the other people in order to recount what they’ve heard. Those are just a few of the things I do with this activity. I really love it!

    Yes, I am afraid I was also distracted by the instructor's incomplete knowledge of English grammar and pronunciation. These are all good ideas, but I worry about how people who are trying to learn English can learn when the instructor isn't able to use English grammar well or the English sound system, which is different from Spanish.
