Your explanation is very clear and organized..The lesson is full of activity and simple steps that fill the time and give pleasure and information..Thank you!!
Thank you very much! I'm training myself to become an ESL teacher and I'm grateful I found this video, very helpful! One thing I found weird was that you called it rock scissor paper and not the rock paper scissors that I grew up with. Just thought I would comment and share, thanks again!
Hi Earl! Yes, by now I've forgotten what the original is. You see, in South Korea they Rock Scissors Paper and since I've been here a few years I've totally mixed them up. :D
@EtacudeEnglishTeachers, Thank you, I have been teaching ESL for 12 years and to this day, I STILL get nervous about demo lessons! Sometimes it's "What material is appropriate for this level/age group?", while other times it's finding a fun and memorable game/activity to do. However, I'm beginning to venture into demo classes for adults, so it's more challenging finding age appropriate activities that aren't just "head shoulders knees and toes". It would be awesome if you could do a video for activities geared towards adult ESL students.
Thanks mate. Don't mind negative comments (though I only saw one lol). Great tips. I already have my background set up... Just need to record my demo and apply everywhere.
Thank you so much. I have an interview soon, and I will be presenting the first conditional. My main example will be: If I pass the interview, I will get a teaching job. Do you think this context is good or should I change it?
Happy to help Habiyev! Actually I wasn't familiar with the Callan method until you mentioned it. After looking it up I understand that many of the practices we naturally use in the classroom might already be used in different variations. The Callan method looks very useful to quickly get students to learn English.
I don't agree with using the Mother tongue or the Korean language if it is their first language. It is also better to say 'in the cinema' than 'at the cinema'. Helpful for beginners. Thanks.
Thanks so much for video. I appreciate the useful tips. Any useful ways to provide student feedback in a demo lesson? With who was your interview if you don't mind me asking.
Hi Theresa, good questions. Since the interview is meant for a single or group of interviewers, you most likely will be doing the interview with them. I would actually add student feedback during the lesson, even if it is fake feedback it will demonstrate your ability to help learners during a real class. So act as if a student made a mistake and give them immediate feedback even if you don't have a student. You can also give "student feedback" at the end of the lesson to solidify what you taught. I hope you understand what I mean. :) The interview was for a winter English camp.
@@etacude Thank you. I think I will do feedback during the lesson. That actually seems like the more appealing option. I might also have to conduct a lesson about the cinema. I'm just confused as to how to pitch this topic on an intermediate and upper level. There seems to be varying options about what is suitable for upper and intermediate English teaching. I really don't want my lesson to come across as too simple. Any advice? Sorry to ask. I'm just extremely nervous. It will be my first interview for online teaching.

you are doing great work, but you can engage more people by making a bit short videos though, you donnt have to compromise o the content , however you can speak a bit faster . Keep it up
It is very tiring. Most teacher at academies have almost nonstop classes for a couple of hours straight. Public schools can be easier, it's around 22-30 teaching hours per week that you're on your feet and the rest of the time you're lesson planning.
seems very wordy and confused at points. At one point you ask them to write (or maybe) draw something, and you do it twice- its not clear if they are writing or drawing

I still kind of botched my demo lesson. Is there any way to connect to have a discussion regarding some queries I have? Thanks
Good to see how we all teach differently 👍
This is what, 3 or 4 years ago? There was a huge need for an example, today I'll do it differently. As we all learn and progress.

I use some simple Korean phrases with my students that they enjoy.

I'm looking for ESL demo for one student only.but all your demo is for a bunch of students..although i like the way you emphasized it.
I'm busy making a video for teachinf 1 on 1. Hopefully it will have some ideas.

If you are a teacher you should know your grammar. Do you have some is incorrect. It should be do you have any.
Teachers make mistakes, and in the moment, I was recording myself as well doing the demo class. So it happens 😄
In my opinion, interviewrs shouldn't put people through this. It is sadistic... but what are you going to do? Kiss their ass I guess.
Lol! Actually, being forced out of your comfort zone is essential for personal growth. It lets the real teachers step forward. Best of luck.
Wtf is this lol
