Not the normal Ohio Wood Burner Ltd video. Joe, the respect and honor shown for your dad was heartwarming. Sadley this type of respect has been lost this day and time. I saw a glimpse of Joe the little boy reminiscing about his father. Absolutely a great video as always, thanks for sharing :)

Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. A most interesting video recording the rich history of the Mahoning Valley, which was ravaged by the industrial changes in the 70s & 80s just like many parts of Great Britian. The reference to your Dad's working life caused me to reflect on my father's career. He joined Standard Oil in Ireland in 1933 and retired a little early in 1976 following changes brought about by the 1973 fuel crisis. He rose from office clerk to Area Manager and after 43 years working he enjoyed 35 on pension, dying in 2011 aged 97. One of my childhood memories is of him coming home each day with his Standard Oil briefcase, which I now use occasionally when carrying important documents.

I was a union boiler maker for a while years ago. Worked out of the Detroit area hall for about a year because they had a bunch of work going on. One of the jobs I did for a couple months was out at Zug Island steel mill and coke plant. Nasty work but got to see the steel being made. Took a jar of souvenir iron oar pellets.. Hey Joe, I always enjoy this kind of videos as a nice alternation from the 'normal' firewood videos. I'm impressed how close your relationship with your homeland is, just as it is for me with my home. To be honest, the typical German doesn't have Ohio on the radar screen when thinking about the US, it's usually California, Las Vegas, New York City and Florida. But it's very nice to learn about other parts of the country, and even more to do so by a firewood channel. 🙂 Thank you so much for your introduction in the history of Ohio, maybe one day I'll visit this place by myself...😉
I wish you and your family Merry Christmas, and a continuing success with your business and the channel!
    Greetings from Germany ✌

Joe, I am a bit surprised that you would donate that hard hat. I thought that was the one that you wore in the woodyard and when you had it on all you needed to do was to stand a point. Then all of the former employees of the month, the current employee of the month, and all potential future employees of the month spring into action.

    A poem by Chat GPT
Hi Joe, this is for you...
    Cold and Dark
In the shadow of behemoths, old and tall,
Where iron once flowed, and hammers did fall,
Lies the ghost of a giant, silent and still,
The old steel mill, on the edge of the hill.
Its furnaces roared with fiery breath,
Crafting the bones of a world, before death.
But time marches on, with its unyielding force,
And new giants rise, setting a different course.
High capacity furnaces, sleek and grand,
Rise in lands far off, on distant sand.
They breathe with a power, fierce and new,
Rendering the old ways, sadly, few.
The heart of the mill, once bright and ablaze,
Now cold and quiet, lost in a haze.
Its echoes whisper of sweat and flame,
Of a time before the new giants came.
Yet in this silence, there's a poignant grace,
    A reminder of a once-thundering place.
For every era must meet its night,
Making way for the dawn of a new light.
So here's to the mill, and its fiery song,
To the workers whose days were hard and long.
In the dance of progress, some things must fade,
But in our memories, their echoes won't evade.
