    I replaced that on my popup years ago and at the very least it made my Coleman popup look newer 😊 its really a low cost necessary maintenance on a camper. Thank you for the video

    I have found that it helps in the long run if you replace any screws you remove with stainless steel screws. It costs minimal dollars and I find that if I ever have to remove screws again they aren’t near rusted through.

    Nice job , that insert is not watertight, putting that big stretch at the bottom will hold any water that gets in kind of like a pipe take a drill bit and drill a hole up through the bottom and you should be good. 👍

    Butyl tape, ah, that is what it is called. I talked to a shop about the putty material that was used to seal up some metal 'L' brackets on the bottom edges of my camper. I wanted to replace it as it was looking to be drying up and cracking due to old age, as well as some other repairs. They figured it was some kind of tape. I recall some even called it 'acoustical tape' at times. All the best to you and the family out there!

      That's the stuff! It's pretty solid stuff when you see it brand new. Even after 10 years ours in certain areas looks good. All is well here! Hope you're staying healthy and safe out there!

      Doing great letting go of my brick and mortar home. I bought a Winnebago Adventurer. I am working on making it a beach house! I am parked on my sister's land. We dug up a 20×20 piece of land for a garden (I love gardening) and another 6×15 for raspberry bushes. My dogs love being out here too, no leashes!
      My sis has a cabin on a beautiful lake nearby so we spend time there too.
      Better get out and do some more planting before it gets too hot. Have a wonderful day!

      @@Addiezmom Congratulations! That sounds pretty awesome! I'm glad to hear it is all working out for you :-) We are hoping to get some land in the near future to be able to camp on it and hopefully someday build a small cabin. If and when that happens I will definitely do a video. Until then, take care and talk soon!

    Where can you get thicker insert material, like the stuff that's on the old 70's era camper shells,like mine ,instead of the cheap thin crap?

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly, I am not sure. I used to have an old 1978 truck camper and it was nearly impossible to find parts for that era.

    How do you know which size to buy 3/4, 7/8 and 1" all fit in my channel

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I cut a piece of mine and removed it from the channel. I then measured it and bought the 1-in size. Have you purchased the trim already? It is true that all three sizes will likely fit a channel. However, the flange on the sides of the trim should fit perfectly in the correct size channel.

    I’m wondering if the link to Amazon for the vinyl covering is correct. I have the one in the link and it’s impossible to insert into the tracks. Sounded like yours was stiff enough that it snapped when it went in.

      Trim insert is cosmetic. Water will end up between vinyl and channel and flow down. Make sure there is a path for water to exit, or it will cause intrusion.

  • @joyce7892
    @joyce7892 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well...I did it around my door and it refuses to stay put. Suggestions

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are different sizes, perhaps you got the wrong size? It should snap into place pretty easy. It also helps if you do it when it is warm outside.

    • @tp2315
      @tp2315 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Add screw at middle of each radius. Vinyl won’t walk out anymore due to shrinkage.

  • @tp2315
    @tp2315 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Not a good idea to caulk the bottom ends. Water will run down the aluminum channel behind the vinyl insert, the vinyl is really only cosmetic. Water will get trapped at the bottom and eventually cause water intrusion. Also, caulk the top end, where the vinyl clips into the channel, around the radius, to divert water away from the channel. Water will then slide down vertically and gravity won’t take water into channel.

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That seal is supposed to be water tight, so that is why I caulked the bottom. I figured water could easily get in there in wet road conditions if it wasn't caulked.
      Here's the thing, probably 95% of rv owners don't even do this type of maintenance. At least you and I are aware of possible water intrusion locations! Most people will overlook that. Thanks for watching.

    Is this the same as the vinyl trim insert that goes around the campervan high top, over the metal rims/screws?

    • @ColoradoCamperman
      @ColoradoCamperman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not certain, but that sounds like the same thing as this insert. Thanks for watching!
