I've heard the cost of life in Portugal had increased a lot because for several reasons. Actually, after the pandemic, that increased around the world. I was told also that the food in Portugal is really "close" to nature than to a industrial plant...local producers, local open markets, etc...
What you have heard is mostly true. A lot of costs are rising. Especially housing prices. The only thing that is not rising is the minimum wage unfortunately. Food is still cheaper than the USA and we shop at a local market every week where the people that sell are the people that grow their crops so it is fresh.

We do not eat cereals in Turkey We prefer eating eggs, olives, tomatoes, honey, tahini , ... So we would ve shocked if we were in US
