To anyone wondering why the song is called "Lotus Eater" it's reference to the Odyssey when Odysseus and his crew stop on an island of a care free society of Lotus Eaters. To me this song feels like an introvert guy going to a party and trying to fit in. "Lotus Eater" can be used to describe carefree people. This shy guy is obviously far from that...but he struggles to be one of the Lotus Eaters who waste their lives on pleasure and meaningless social activities, guess that is the irony of the song. But i can't figure out what he means by saying "we can't commit to love", probably just some nonsense after drinking too much?
