    there actually is one last song that they made together, that was released in their Greatest Hits album, titled "Fake Your Death". It was the first song of the album, and was supposed to represent their whole tenure as a band and the journey they had together. It was odd at first hearing, because it was so different than the sound you're used to, but it truly is beautiful about what it's like to be a band, to be their band, and why it's both sad and beautiful that they're done and moving on to other things.

    Also, The World is Ugly, had a grittier older version, back when they were still in their Black Parade phase. Heavier riffs and more raw passion through it. It's only found on live version from a few concerts before they took break after touring constantly for The Black Parade and having troubles trying to release their eventual fourth album, which originally had some of Conventional Weapons songs, before moving into the Danger Days sound. Glad you enjoyed Conventional Weapons, they released each group of singles throughout I think late 2012 to early 2013, teasing that it would eventually lead to the release date of their fifth album. But they then admitted that there was no fifth album and they were breaking up. They originally claimed they would only release them when they were done, so we sorta should have seen it coming.

  • @MysticClaws100
    @MysticClaws100 6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    The thing is all these tracks were recorded at the same time as the Danger Days. They were originally gonna release these songs but wanted to try something different so basically did Danger Days first. I don't think the band think these songs are worse than the songs on their albums, they just wanted to make an album like Danger Days. I wouldn't really consider these B-sides.
    I understand why they wanted to release DD first though because they wanted to do a different sounding album and this album, as good as it is, does sound kind of like all their other albums, and wouldn't really seem like a good follow up to Black Parade
    I think this "album" (or compilation) is underrated. It's hard for me to know where I'd rank it, because I like all their albums (except Bullets). Black Parade is definitely No. 1 though.

    10:49 I read somewhere that The Light Behind Your Eyes was about Gerard Way's daughter. He wrote it for her while he was on tour, missing being home with her. Something like that xD

    Fun fact about The World is Ugly, it's sort of a goodbye to the fans and they're speaking to us in a way. MCR had said that they would only release TWiU when they'd break up.

    Someone else may have said this I just didnt feel like checking the comments but this was actually written around 2008 but they scrapped it and released Danger Days in 2010, I might have gotten that year wrong but it was 2010-11ish area. It wasnt really a b-side they just didn't feel like there was much of an idea for the concept and they knew the concept of Danger Days. They only released these bc they knew they were done. Wow after all that typing I also have a suggestion. Could u react to My Chemical Romance May Death Never Stop You? Its there greatist hits album so there you can end listening to a lot of ur favorite songs by them.

    This album gets a lot of hate for being more "generic" than what their fans expected, but I fucking love it. Gerard Way goes crazy on the vocals, Ray fucking Toro is an amazing guitarist, Frank Iero has such a great energy with his guitar, Mikey Way kinda underrated on the bass, but still very solid. I don't remember who the drummer was at this point, but they're rockin out, too.
    I had thought this was a whole album that was recorded together before danger days but not released cause it wasn't the way they decided they wanted to go, and then ended up releasing digitally anyway after DD. Idk if that's right, it's just what I remember from when I was obsessed with them in 8/9th grade lol, take it with a grain of salt
    Depressing but dope is a label I never thought I would resonate with loving so much lmao
    The line "everybody wants to change the world, but no one wants to die" is a line that they ended up using in a song in danger days.... nanana maybe? Fuck I can't remember aah
    This comp of songs is pretty split between some of their best work and some completely forgettable songs. I'm just sad we never got a tour for this album, that would've been crazy
    They released a thing for the 10 years of black parade with some of their b-sides, and damn you can tell that those are dated lmao, the quality on some of them are SHIT
    Also some rough demos on it. It's not anything I think you would particularly enjoy though, as a production guy haha
    Thanks for this reaction! I wish CW got more hype among the fans

      The Tune Up for sure.
      The lyrics are better, the chorus’s are stronger, the mixing and mastering was very well done, and the little details like backing vocals or the one liners that tie the songs together are amazing. This is a stand out in their discography, and a good one at that.

    • @TheTuneUp
      @TheTuneUp  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Couldn’t agree more. It’s so clean and clear. I really enjoyed how mature and developed the sound of the album was. It’s definitely my favorite album from them. Probably the only album I’ll be able to play on rotation for a while. Next to the mutemath EP and Blurryface on a good day 😂

    • @ocifer
      @ocifer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Tune Up this one has more replay value than a lot of the others. I know they’re following a story line, but being that’s it’s meant to be a concept album that not a lot of people will want to hear the story behind it, they did an excellent job of making it a good listening experience even if you didn’t know the story behind it.

    Thank you so much for listening to Conventional Weapons, it doesn’t get near enough credit. This album isn’t actually made up of b-sides though, they’re songs from an album that was scrapped in between the black parade and danger days. You can tell by the similarities in lyrics that danger days and conventional weapons have, where make room!!! and na na na both feature the lyrics “everybody wants to change the world, but no one, no one wants to die”. The reason that this album was scrapped and then much later transformed into danger days is because they were simply not happy with the sound they were producing that ultimately sounded more ‘emo’ than danger days did. stephanie meyer (the author of the twilight series) even asked mcr if they would do the soundtrack for the movie, but they turned it down because they didn’t want to be pinpointed as these vampirish figures in the music industry as they and their sound had evolved (this moment actually provoked the song vampire money which was written and added to danger days shortly before it was released). I do believe though, that if they were intending to put any amount of these songs on danger days that songs like the kids from yesterday and save yourself would absolutely be the b-sides :)

  • @coleplastaras2712
    @coleplastaras2712 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    These aren’t b-sides they were all going to be on an album. They made Danger Days insted because they liked Conventional Wepons but they felt it wasn’t ground they already coverd and wanted to just go crazy a completely different album about super heroes in desert. I’m happy these 2 albums both exist.

    Coming back here after Boy Division becoming a mainstay on the reunion tour set is so interesting, Revenge and Bullets are still my favourite projects but even though I understand why these songs are scrapped I really wish tracks like that got some sort of time to shine before the breakup so that "older fans" would actually give them a chance... Still, I attended 4 dates, and that song popped off and was a top 5 of the set literally each night!!
    With the recent increase in teasing on "MCR5", I can't wait to see what they decide to come out with this time, dark or bright :))

  • @AceMusicFreak
    @AceMusicFreak 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Usually songs don't make the album not because they're bad but because it wouldn't fit the flow of the album. Another reason would be that bands like My Chem were really aware that they'd have to play those songs live and so if the songs were too hard to play they'd be no fun to play live and probably wouldn't sound great. Bands usually come into the studio with 20-50 songs and then have to cut them down to 10-15 so there will be a few great songs that won't make the cut.
    Another think that you wouldn't see if you're not into punk and hardcore music is that all those songs really sound like other bands in the scene. For example Kiss The Ring sounds so much like AFI, or Surrender The Night sounds like Taking Back Sunday.

    Conventional Weapons, that's what introduced me to My Chemical Romance. It was around a month before their break up, good times. I'm sure someone already told you, those aren't really b-sides. It was a proper album they were working on after The Black Parade. But in the end they didn't release it and tried something different with Danger Days. As I understand it, they released those tracks after Danger Days to fill up the time, while they worked on what was supposed to be fifth album The Paper Kingdom. But yeah, they broke up and it never happened. But if you're interested, in 2014 after their break up they released a compilation album of their greatest hits along with one new song from that album Fake Your Death.....Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed Conventional Weapons. My favourites are definitely Ambulance, The World Is Ugly, The Light Behind Your Eyes and Surrender The Night. Surrender The Night is still one of my all time favourite songs, it was my first favourite song by MCR and I would listen to it on repeat for months.

    I know you may be tired off MCR but If you haven't listened to their demos like Living with Ghosts and Life On the Murder Scene
    and their covers of different songs, but it may take some digging to find the covers.
    There's also a little known EP called Mad Gear and Missile Kid, We Don't Need Another Song About California, Zero Percent, and a few songs that were only ever played live (Sister to Sleep, The Drugs, Stay, Jack the Ripper cover) that were recorded, but those recordings are generally bad.
    Gerard Way and Frank Iero both have great songs that they've done on their own away from MCR, so I definitely recommend them. I really recommend starting with Baby You're A Haunted House, though idk if you've already reacted to that.
    I'm mainly posting this partly to bring attention to some of the tracks by MCR that nobody's heard and maybe make give you another video idea for the future if you read this.
    Thank you for putting up with us emos and our bands that we love, I hope you enjoyed listening to MCR's tracks. They're definitely my favorite band.

      I don't think it was a case of them being like "These songs aren't as good as the ones we have for Danger Days" but more of a "I don't want to make this kind of album right now" so they wanted to try something different, resulting in Danger Days. CW wouldn't have been a worthy follow up to Black Parade imo and not that DD is better than this album but I think it's better as a follow up to that album
