    Enjoyed watching that. Great to see the 87's, 86's and 90's on passenger work - as they used to be. Great to see the variety of loco's on freight workings too. Real shame its not like this now on the wcml.

      Good to see 90s returning to the WCML with Grand Central soon!

    Absolutely fantastic mate, really bringing back memories of my first visits in the mid 90s. Such a shame it's not like that anymore.

    Great video, brings back memories of going to Crewe in the mid 90's with my dad. Went around the diesal depot on my birthday one year.

    Thanks. Plenty more to come, and with the weather turning worse and daylight getting less there should be plenty more to come over the Autumn and Winter.

    Marvellous shots and sound Darren - favourites have to be the class 86s on passenger workings with their very distinctive sound

    Nice to see the 86,87 and 47. I remember the cab rides in all three in the 70's when I was a kid. going to london from liverpool in 86's and 87's.

    Thanks. Yes, the old parcel carts and trolleys were ideal places to park yourself and your gear and enjoy the passing trains.

    @MrDeltic15  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks very much. The few remaining Class 85's were a highlight for me in this era too and always on my hitlist to capture when possible - never thought the common Class 86's & 87's would become so rare later too of course!

    Thanks very much. I've got quite a bit of footage from Rugby 1986-1997, plus some from Crewe and Nuneaton, so hopefully i'll be bringing back some more good memories for you.

    Very nice! I cabbed many electrics at Rugby when i was a kid, but the 'only' cab ride(other than depot visits)i've had was from St Pancras to Kettering in a 'Peak' - that was fantastic of course! :-)

    What a fantastic video! Liked and in Favs. Brings back so many good memories of the 80/90s when I was up & down the WCML. Loved the clip of the Class 85 departing - the 'silent' electrics eh!? Thanks for sharing.

    GR8 era,,the locos, the smell, the old post office trollies to sit on...fantastic

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes - i think? :-) You have to say though that Virgin spent millions transforming the run down WCML(and Cross Country)services with new stock and more frequent services, and although the Pendolinos and Voyagers aren't the same as a nice Mk3 behind a Class 86/87 i guess we can't live in the past forever. I just hope that lessons learned from the layout of these newer trains means when the new IEP eventually appears it will have a more passenger friendly layout.

    Nice to see some footage of my favorite 86, 86401 in NSE livery too!

    If only we could go back indeed - you don't know what you've got until it's gone I guess. Thanks goodness for the work of preservation groups - and some of the companies who still stick with some heritage traction today :-)

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks Hayden. A shame the WCML isn't more like this now indeed, but at least i've got lots more footage of 85's, 86's, 87's, and 90's from the late 1980's to late 1990's still to come, plus 31's, 37's, 47's, 56's, 58's, and HST's from my visits to Rugby alone!

    Spent many a day on those platforms around 87-92, my dad used to drop me off and I buy a platform ticket (10p if I recall!) and spend the whole day there

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for that. Very true indeed, far too much 'plastic' around Crewe today. Should have some more 1990's Crewe footage in my collection - including a pair of 50's and pair of 33's there, plus when the North Wales Coast used freight locos on special passenger workings.

    Cheers Ian. Plenty more AC roar from 86's to come as i've got lots of footage from Rugby, plus some other WCML locations filmed between 1987 and 1997.

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks. Yes, the whine of those AC locos is sadly missing from Crewe now, apart from the odd freight passing not using the independent lines.

    Some Strathclyde 303's were cascaded down to the Manchester area for GMPTE services and often did the Manchester to Crewe runs. Later on in the 90's Strathclyde 101's also got cascaded down to the Manchester area.

    Great video! Brings back lots of memories. Is this a little earlier than 1990? The 47 on the Irish Mail is 47621, and the nameplate "Royal County of Berkshire" was supposedly removed in Oct/Nov 89, and the loco renumbered to 47839 at the same time.

  • @kevingraham3161
    @kevingraham3161 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice video, when it was a proper railway, not like today, all plastic units, pendolinos, i went to crewe yesterday and not one freight in 6 hours appeared or any loco's, either i just picked a bad day or it's truly got that bad these days, such a shame from days gone by.

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Indeed, well spotted there! There were quite a few WCML Pullmans in this era, but as you say this one in particular didn't last long. Oh for those days of loco hauled on the North Wales Coast line - just the odd 67 now as you can't count being dragged in a Pendolino as the same thing :-(

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Proper trains indeed! :-)

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks very much. Yes, 86401 looked very smart in NSE livery, and was my 'local' WCML electric. Such a shame she's just sitting at Willesden now and set to go abroad - or worse!

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cheers Michael. Don't wish your life away too soon! LOL. Who knows, maybe the 66's you're filming now will be the rare ones in 15/20 years!

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Indeed! A bit different now, but at least nearby DRS still have plenty of 'heritage' traction on their books :-)

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks very much. It was certainly better back then(with hindsight now I know)and not the same now at all, but i'd say you were very unlucky not to see any locos in a 6 hour spell there - there's usually some movement of DRS or DBS(Freightliner too)locos around, and the odd freight that doesn't go via the Independent Lines sometimes.

    The premier passenger train in terms of intra-state trains in Victoria is the Vlocity, doing a measly 160kmh. The rest of Victoria's passes are limited to around 115kmh! So in comparison, the Pendo's aren't really too bad.

  • @soundseeker63
    @soundseeker63 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    On reflection I just noticed that Glasgow PTE class 303.
    I didn't realise the 303s worked out this way too.
    I know they worked the Glossop and Hadfield services when that line was converted from 1.5kv dc to 25kv ac prior to the 323s being built, but it seems they went much further afield!
    Loving the 85 "roarers" in there too. Do you happen to have any more footage of the first generation ACs?

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Controversial there! :-) Things for and against BR I guess(the same for Privatisation too), but certainly there's been a lot of investment in the railways and new stock since the late 1990's - but I still like to see 86's, 56's, 20's, and the like rather than a lot of the new locos!

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, those old DMU's always sounded nice as they burbled away - not like these high revving units of today. Plenty of classic(as we'd call it now)traction on offer, but i guess that's 'progress' as they say.......?

  • @MrGriser
    @MrGriser 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    What were the Strathclyde class 303s doing in that area?

  • @MrDeltic15
    @MrDeltic15  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it was because a train they were waiting for was delayed.
