Amazing pen my friend, gorgeous red celluloid.... I'm sure that writing with it is a pleasure! Nice acquisition, Congratulations!!! Waiting for akkerman inks review!
like every of my review i try to use the pen first for a few weeks then have the review and say something about it . Thank you and stay around because the video with the akkerman inks is coming , i just need to find a very good angle to shoot the video to show the real colors of the inks .
hello, great review; just one remark about the piston mechanism: this is a ratchet piston-fill system. You have to twist the blindcap anticlockwise until it stops...this is the only way to understand when it comes to the end, then you may dip the nib into the ink bottle and draw by twisting the piston knob clockwise until it stops. Ink capacity, as far as I know, is about 1ml...Not too bad. The average short cartridge will hold 0.7 ml of ink. The average converter will hold between 0.6ml and 1ml of ink, with 0.8ml being the most common. Me too I would prefer a Peikan like piston system...But this must be seen as a luxury fountain pen. Ciao da Roma.
Salve Luca :D - im pretty sure in my second review I mentioned (I did one later after the initial one) - 1ml is not that bad yes but its on the low end VS other pistons.
Great review for a great pen! One question, though: does the celluloid show any little bit of transparency, can you see the ink level in bright light? At around 4:50 in your video it looks like one can barely see the piston through the body. I'm asking because I too am interested in buying such a pen, but I must have a visible ink level, so if the celluloid is any bit transparent, I'm considering choosing a lighter colour, maybe. Thanks!
Hi Adrian , tryed just now to put it under a very bright light and it doesn't show any transparency at all , just hints and darker parts where the filling mechanism is located , what I can tell you know is that the only way to check the ink level is to patiently untwist the know and see when ink is pouring from the feed , regarding ink capacity its very little, its less than the amount of ink that is available ink a cartridge , around 0.7 0.9 ml (ink cartridge 1.4 ml). if you want to talk more and maybe order something from our website www.pen-venture.com ,let me know and I will show you some models that fit in your needs.
@@pen.venture Thanks a lot for the detailed reply! I'm checking out your website right now and will write you an email this very evening to ask for further advice!
Hi pen friend, thanks for your review, personally i would choose the bamboo version, the nib gives a juicy line, very nice. BTW will you visit the Montegrappa factory :-)
Thank you my friend ! I dint payed full retail price for it and got a deal for it ! you can find models of the 1930 extra at half the price of this , the hunt for a pen can be great also! :D
there is nowhere to find them at this price being a pen model discontinued by montegrappa (we where informed a few weeks ago). They will only get more expensive with time. I do have some of them in stock (this red / bamboo green / black&grey) if you are interested le me know and maybe we ca find a common ground
They look nice but I find it hard to get excited about the silver (which tarnishes and scratches) and the price point. For me this model seems more for luxury buyers who want the status of owning a Montegrappa more than pen enthusiasts. If Montegrappa release a version of this pen price at 800 to 900 euros with lower trim levels they would compete very favourably against Montblanc and Visconti given the story of the brand and the model. This could then be a gateway product to the higher end Montegrappas.
i can understand your thoughts on this pen, as a reference you can check our videos and see how much it goes in to produce such pens. We where very impressed by the Montegrappa facility when we visited them. Also the silver section is more of a heritage for them - a lot of exclusive pens made in collaboration with Montegrappa have sections made in all sort of different materials - with lower prices overall
Thank you for your great review, I really enjoy watching it. My Montegrappy extra 1930 tortoise shell is the my most beautiful pen. There are advantages of having a ink window, which however in my opinion might ruin the beauty of this pen :-)

Thank you for your great review! Do you find the piston knob not snug tight, playing a bit about 1mm?
Meng Chung thank you ! On this pen in particular it snugs very tight.

totally agree with you but with time its easy to learn how to live without a ink window and you start enjoying the design of the pen even more.
