Kabocha squashes have a very sweet and nutty flavor that’s similar to chestnuts. They’re tasty enough to bake or steam on their own. Kabocha is also a popular choice for frying up tempura style. But did you know that their bold flavor also pairs well with savory foods? I enjoy having kabocha with curry or soy sauce.
    Here’s another reason to love kabocha: the peel is quite thin, so once you steam it, it becomes fully soft and edible. Stuff the squash with rice and chicken, and you’ll have a balanced, filling meal that tastes like fall. Just pick up a spoon and scoop up the soft kabocha with the rice. Don’t forget the roasted seaweed garnish! Its salty, umami flavor is so refreshing to eat with the sweet kabocha.
