I’ve been there many times what a contrast it looks like what it’s like at night after the shops have closed. I feel really sad for all the businesses. I usually stay at the Richmond hotel and the shop that sells the melon pan is behind the hotel. I think it’s delicious the best I’ve had.
Loved this vlog Shinichi, thank you for doing this for Asakusa! I stayed 3 days here with my son at a ryokan close by. Melon pan! When in Asakusa a total stranger who sat at a yakitori counter with us overheard that it was my first time to Japan and also my 50th bday. He left the counter and shortly returned with melon pan and ohashi to wish me a happy bday and my "hajimeni" trip to Japan. I want to return one day, you're so lucky to be in Japan! We live in Hawaii. Stress is no joke during this pandemic! Be well mentally, do yoga and meditiate..you're in the perfect place to meditate by the way! Love from Maui
Thank you for your vlog Shinichi. It's a crazy situation we're living in... so sad for al the shop and restaurant owners. Quiet depressing to see all this happening, and heavy for our mental health. Your vlog helps to not feel alone. In general everyone is suffering more or less at this stage. But not everyone is as sensitive for all the changes so not everyone understands the effect is has on for example highly sensitive people or on the ones who have been (or are) suffering from mental health issues, for whom all this is even more challenging. So a big THANK YOU!
WOW....just like Waikiki Beach lived here 51 years and never seen it so empty it's a ghost town. So happy you are feeling better!!!! Thank you for sharing!!!! I can't wait to visit there. Take care, be safe....sending all my Aloha to both of you & Justin(he's so precious)!!!!
A fascinating video. I live on Cape Cod which is a summer tourist area in the US. The beaches are still overcrowded here, but the shops are definitely less crowded than previous years.
This pandemic have impacted everyone's life in some way or another. Tourism is definitely one of the hardest hit, and the businesses along the line are badly affected too. Hope everyone stays strong and healthy, and beat this virus together. Cheers!
Thank you very much for this video. I really appreciate. I've been there just last year and it was fully packed and wonderful. Seeing it so empty really heartbreaking.
I miss Asakusa and the shops and food. And yes once you get to Kaminarimon it’s super packed and navigating around can get challenging. I enjoyed strolling down the alleys and finding all kinds of stores and eateries. Our hotel was a few blocks behind the Senso-ji Temple. I would love to stay in Asakusa again. Thank you for sharing. Takes me back to good pre-Covid times.
I enjoyed this walking tour so much, brought back a lot of great memories when we were in tokyo many many years ago, and a pleasant relief from the lockdown being able to sight-see albeit on youtube
Hi shinichi, i do love your video vlog. It is amazing in the many times you have filmed there it has never been so quite and yet i got to see more of the beauty i missed without the crowd. I loved the new mask you bought. Have a great day!
Loved this video and thank you for giving us a glimpse of asakuasa until we tourists can come back :))) really want to try that amusement park! Stay safe!
This walking tour is very interesting, How tourist spot are not crowded so we can see the whole asakusa. I hope you can do this again next time. Thanks shinichi and stay safe.
Hello from Singapore, Thanks for sharing. I was there with my family few years back and also visited the oldest theme park there too. So much memories there. Stay healthy & be safe!
I hope merchants in Asakusa can stay in business. It's sad we don't know when this pandemic will get better. Hopefully when vaccine is discovered soon & one day we can all visit Japan again. Thanks Shinichi...your video was interesting. Stay safe!😊💓
Shinichi, I'm loving these bike and taking a stroll Vlogs. So therapeutic and I enjoy it so much. It helps me to relax and enjoy the scenery in the area. Thank you and love you from Texas! 😘❤️
At the 15 min mark of your video you mentioned a plant with some sort of berries, well it's actually called Clivia Miniata and I have one in my house !! It has been in the family for 25+ years :) when I came to Japan in 2016, I was so happy and surprised to see that this plant grows easily outdoor in Tokyo.
I really like this new vlog format! Although it's sad to see the businesses suffering, it is a unique opportunity to "peel back " the tourist layer and see Asakusa as it is. I want to visit there one day! Great video!
Good Morning from Long Island, NY.(10:21 a.m.). I am glad you ventured out for yourself. It is the anxiety of the unknown that gets to us. Between shingles and the news, your anxiety is through the roof. I go through that. The meds also cause the anxiety. Please conserve your strength, sleep when you can and do some meditation. Be well, stay safe, and wear your mask.
Take care Shinichi. Hope you'll do more of these walks for us tat crave travelling to Tokyo again. I bet it's good for ur health too. Keep up the good work!
It's so depressing to see. What I always liked about Tokyo is (was!?) it's always busy and alive everywhere. I hope it's back to business as usual when I move back by the end of the year.... Interesting video Shinichi.... Thanks for sharing.... Thomas
love your format! very informative and feels like i'm also walking with a very good friend/guide 😁..especially walking through the unfamiliar streets where most tourists do not normally go! keep it up!
I remember passing Senso-ji in the afternoon a few years ago and seeing how packed it was. The only time it was empty was when I stopped by for a quick visit at 11 PM and even then I came across about 5 other people. It's a shock seeing how empty it is now in broad daylight. I do hope that everyone is doing alright seeing as so many of the stores are closed.
I can’t believe the lack of crowds there are..😢 Today marked the 75th anniversary of the boring of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. My husbands parents were just small during that time and had effects.. so sad though there are no one out on the streets. Last time we were in Japan it was so crowded in Nagasaki. Melon pan is me and my husbands favourite bread. Really a nice mask you bought.
A sad reflection on the times we are living in when I actually got quite excited when I saw that mask, and thought to myself, how can I get one of them?
Thank you for sharing your favorite spots and reactions. I felt the same "guilt" visiting family when crowds were light as pandemic was beginning. Hoping for an end soon so we can visit again.
I grew up in japan in the 70’s and 80’s flew on missions back and forth to japan for 20yrs now I’m stationed here and I will be staying. Come back as soon as you can when this Covid thing is over!
Asakusa is beautiful when it isn’t crowded with so many tourists. The last time I visited, I wasn’t truly able to appreciate it’s beauty. Thank you for allowing me to join you on your walk all the way from Hawaii. I am really looking forward to my return to Japan in the near future...
Cant believe it's been 2 years now since we went to that same melon pan store. We had the melon pan with green tea ice cream! Stay safe and well Shinichi.
I miss Japan. I stayed at Ryokan Shigetsu in Asakusa a few times. It's a very nice place and the おふろ has a great view of 雷門. I've never been there when 中身せどり was so empty.
Wooah its sooo quiet and peaceful but its quite sad coz of this pandemic..thank u for filming this video soo missing Japan by watching this video ii can imagine i'm being there again..stay safe guys..
Wow thank you for this wonderful but very sad walk, had some wonderful holidays here, miss Japan so much, my holiday this was cancelled have also a 2 month holiday planned but not till it's safe & there's flights, take care be safe
Hi Shinichi, glad to see that you have recovered from the shingles and you're looking well, and you are braving it out on your own this time. I'm looking forward to seeing you and Satoshi doing more vlogs together soon. Cheers!
Hi Shinichi. Your tour brought back many wonderful memories of Japan. I appreciate your tour of Asakusa and shops but please go where you can sit down in an air-conditioned building or go home. Kindest regards to Satoshi. Thanks to you both for promoting all things Japanese.
Wow, so empty...I feel so much for the business owners. 😔 Oh that flower with the berries by the amusement park, is actually a flower called Clivia and those red things are seeds after the blooms. I grow them myself. 😊 I wonder if any of these shops have online shopping?
Wow, Shinichi! I can’t believe the lack of crowds either. 😱 That’s the Tokyo version of a Christmas miracle. 😏 One of my favorite pics of my hubby 有さん(Ari not Yu) is at the Hozomon gate back in 1999 when we were newly married. I also miss the “Agemanju.” 🥟🤪They’re my fave, but if I think of them now, I automatically gain 5 lbs. LOL! Thanks for braving the heat to show us around 🥺🥵 and virtual hugs to you, Satoshi and baby Justin! 🤗 xoxo Christine in equally hot Colorado, USA.
Hope you feeling better my husband had shingles so i know what your going through and its mostly cause because of stress love your channel hope we get to travel to japan next year hope to meet you guys if ots possible.
Hello Shinichi! I was in Japan with a friend, back in March. We also went to Asakusa! It was already quite empty at that time, but seeing it now is quite shocking! I hope to visit again soon, stay safe!
I was there back in early March just before the peak of the virus and the travel restrictions start kicking in. The crowd was about the same as what is shown in your video right now too... I’m glad I visited Japan as I never know when I will ever get to experience this kind of crowd again...
Last year I went through some life changes (long story) but looking at the bright side I though I would start traveling and Japan was one place I have always wanted to visit. I love that it's so different from my home and exploring the differences and finding the similarities would be a great adventure but unfortunately Corona has put a hold on those plans.
ive stayed in so many places around sensoji over the years, and its unbelievable to see it so uncrowded, if you go late at night or early in the morning in normal times its still usually busy lol
It's weird to see Asakusa so empty but at the same time I realized that's the first time I'm able to watch how the borrow's buildings and shops really are.
I always go there for buying Monchhichi at Térao shop...and I use aisles aside because it’s always packed and I hate it but seeing a Nakamise street empty is so so sad....
I'd love to visit again maybe next year when it's safer. I miss Japan! Osaka must also be oddly quiet, we visited there and the night scene is amazing! The morning after though was as quiet as some of the streets you visited in this video. Lol
The "u" in Asakusa is silent, hence when pronounced it's "Asak'sa." I stayed here for around a week several years ago, and the train announcements pronounce it in the same manner.
Hey! Good to see you up and about, anyway. Your little chat over tea popped up and I watched it, but didn't say at the time: You boys take care of each other. I know you do. On this one I could tell the shopkeeper was glad to see you come in. (Also those could be about the coolest masks I could imagine, if they work well. Yukata shops must have just the best small pieces of cloth left over. :) )
Its so sad to watch your video. Im from the Philippines and been there twice. Everytime, its packed with people. I have nothing but fond memories about this place.
Wow THAT. IS. CRAZY EMPTY! Every year I always stay and visit in Asakusa and walk around there. And this place is always packed and crowded. Wowwwwwww..... I seriously miss Japan. Thanks for sharing the situation. Soon we will all be back and traveling.
Hi Shinichi, hope everything is fine for you and your family. Like these kind of video.. make me travel by your sight.. hope to go back to Japan soon. Keep going..
Dear Shinichi San... Thank you so much for posting your journey around Asakusa. This video really made me sad. I really miss Japan so so so much... Asakusa is just more than a historical site for me and my family. It kept a lot of memories with my late parents. Until now Asakusa has become our family's favorite place to strolling around when we visit Tokyo. We love Japan so much. We hope this pandemic will gone as soon. Greetings from Indonesia, I hope you stay safe and healthy. God Bless!!!
Oh I'm so sad to see it empty...but thankful for those staying safe. I wish only the best for you! I stopped watching news ages ago there's so much careless attitudes in my country. I have taken to baking an awful lot! Stay cool and be safe! And you can check live cams from highway and streets in California! I like looking at live cams from Monterey Bay Aquarium, the jelly fish cam so very relaxing! ❤
It's nice. I guess I was lucky when zi visited in February as it was not crowded, which was great for me but that is crazy. I would enjoy Japan now!! Sad but good for staycation.
I understand the stress. I try to tell myself. We cannot control what what we cannot control. Concentrate on what you can control. Its ok to feel bad but you will feel better. Give back to others
Looks like a great time to visit Asakusa. I had a trip to Japan planned for end of August but unfortunately I'm not allowed to travel out of the country yet. This year, I have to skip returning to Japan after 6 years :(
I always enjoy it when you take us site seeing, Shinichi! Was nice to be able to see without the crowds. Also, if you want to see streets around the world, just type in Google the street name and add "street cam" to your search. Ex. "Hollywood Boulevard street cam" and if they have camera's you can see in real-time. 😊Also, lookup, earthcam.com Stay safe my friend! 🥰
I don't know about others but I really enjoyed seeing Asakusa without the crowds, looks ellegant. It would be lovely if you could go to that layla caffe when it's safe again to film inside these places, I would love to see inside and hopefuly you can give us a review of their products
Never seen Asakusa so empty. Last time I was in Tokyo I remember we were there on a weekday and it was heavily raining and still there were sooo many people. Very interesting to see how empty it is right now. I hope you are well and cant wait for the next video! ^^
These updated haircuts, and the ones with the fades on the side looks so good on you! I was shocked at seeing some of the videos from even a few months ago, and years ago, you actually look a lot older in them. It’s like you reverse aged! (I was just looking at the previews.) I think whatever you are doing in your lifestyle right now, plus the haircuts, you look in very good health and much younger and vibrant. :) (this is the first video I’ve seen, so I will leave feedback on the videos themselves later. But so far I really like the vlogging style and getting to see Japan) :D
Shinichi's World Also, I just created a Watercolor urban sketch just before the gate entry. It took 2 1/2 hours! Afterwards I unpaused the video and it was a whole new experience to get to see the area I just painted, but in 3-D as you walked around! I gave your video credit in my description, & in case anyone wants to watch it. It’s on Instagram uberneko_zero if you would like to view. :) Great video! Fantastic!
Wow, cannot believe this is Tokyo. Kuala Lumpur Malaysia is almost back to normal now. Everywhere is packed with people as we are not allowed to travel outside of the country, we are travelling within the country quite a bit. We are bracing ourselves for second wave.
Wow, that's so crazy to see! When I went to the Asakusa Tokyo area it was so crowded and bustling! I wonder if eventually that area and the rest of Tokyo/Japan will ever go back to normal!
I have been here back in Jan, 20 before COVID-19 started. It’s very sad to see this place is empty now but back then very crowded. Thank you for sharing this video.
Miss Japan, thanks for posting this, its like walking there again, but with much less people!
I’ve been there many times what a contrast it looks like what it’s like at night after the shops have closed. I feel really sad for all the businesses. I usually stay at the Richmond hotel and the shop that sells the melon pan is behind the hotel. I think it’s delicious the best I’ve had.
OMG so empty, I have the best memories here, can't wait to come back.

All of those shops are probably struggling to stay open. It makes me sad what this virus has done to the world...glad to see you out and about though
Virus is a factor but corporations decide to keep their rent the same that really f up

Great timing. Amazing wonderful views . Very, very different look without those crowds, like that view of the pagoda. Thanks
It’s unbelievable! So empty! Thanks for the video. Looking forward to see the video on Tabi Eats!
thanks for sharing this. your vlogs are a relief to what's going on around the world. you stay safe, happy and healthy.
A fascinating video. I live on Cape Cod which is a summer tourist area in the US. The beaches are still overcrowded here, but the shops are definitely less crowded than previous years.
Really enjoying your videos. We have traveled to Japan many times and just love it, can’t wait to get back there when this pandemic is finally over.

Hello from Singapore, Thanks for sharing. I was there with my family few years back and also visited the oldest theme park there too. So much memories there. Stay healthy & be safe!
8 years ago I stayed in the Sakura Hostel which is a stone's throw away from this street. Such nice memories from this place.
I hope merchants in Asakusa can stay in business. It's sad we don't know when this pandemic will get better. Hopefully when vaccine is discovered soon & one day we can all visit Japan again. Thanks Shinichi...your video was interesting. Stay safe!😊💓
vaccine, lets hope not as that will signify the end for us all
Shinichi, I'm loving these bike and taking a stroll Vlogs.
Feel very calm every time I hear your voice!! Thank you!! Love watching your videos!! Take care and keep up the amazing work. ❣️
I really like this new vlog format! Although it's sad to see the businesses suffering, it is a unique opportunity to "peel back " the tourist layer and see Asakusa as it is. I want to visit there one day! Great video!

Miss you outdoors! Glad to see you out, as outdoors is good for the soul! Weird seeing it so empty. I miss Japan!
I was there June 2019. I’m so sad. What a contrast.
I love Japan.
Stay well!

Oh wow! I was also in Japan in June 2019. I absolutely loved it there. Hoping to go back once everything goes back to normal.
It's so depressing to see. What I always liked about Tokyo is (was!?) it's always busy and alive everywhere.
I hope it's back to business as usual when I move back by the end of the year....

The temple and surrounding area seems eerily serene right now. Stay safe.💜
Cant believe it's been 2 years now since we went to that same melon pan store. We had the melon pan with green tea ice cream! Stay safe and well Shinichi.
Nice charming video. Really hope things start to get better around there soon.
Thank you for the video. How I wished things would get to how it used to be but it seems impossible to me. I miss Tokyo especially Asakusa

I do really appreciate your vlog! I loved it specially when you doin it while walking or biking, because of that I can see the beauty of Japan 🇯🇵
I think this is a great idea, sort of like a time capsule of what things are/were like during Covid
Hi Shinichi. Your tour brought back many wonderful memories of Japan. I appreciate your tour of Asakusa and shops but please go where you can sit down in an air-conditioned building or go home. Kindest regards to Satoshi. Thanks to you both for promoting all things Japanese.
I was at Asakusa but miss all these streets, will go by again. Thank you for sharing.
I pray that all these wonderful places are able to survive and get through these uncertain times.

If you go to Shimo-kitazawa, its pretty crowded. Same with Shibuya.

Awesome, you are an amazing ambassador for your home, excellent ❤️
Its so sad to watch your video. Im from the Philippines and been there twice. Everytime, its packed with people. I have nothing but fond memories about this place.
Thanks for sharing, it is a quite different Asakusa we found last November, I do hope everything comes back to normality very soon!
Wow THAT.

I have taken to baking an awful lot! Stay cool and be safe! And you can check live cams from highway and streets in California! I like looking at live cams from Monterey Bay Aquarium, the jelly fish cam so very relaxing! ❤
First time Viewer Enjoyed it. The temple is beautiful.
It's nice. I guess I was lucky when zi visited in February as it was not crowded, which was great for me but that is crazy. I would enjoy Japan now!! Sad but good for staycation.
Im so glad i found this Chanel....love your videos
Omise ga gara gara desu ne... Samishi desu ne...😔😷😷😷 I love narrow alleys too in japan...
This year, I have to skip returning to Japan after 6 years :(
Im hope traveling resumes next year. I really do
I always enjoy it when you take us site seeing, Shinichi!
You may have a point. It could use less of social media tourist.
Wow what a big difference. My hubby and I were just there May 2019. It was jammed packed. It looks like a ghost town compared to the packed streets 😮
Wow, I remembered it was super packed in Asakusa last year. Stay safe! Shout outs from Okinawa!
Thanks so much
Never seen Asakusa so empty. Last time I was in Tokyo I remember we were there on a weekday and it was heavily raining and still there were sooo many people. Very interesting to see how empty it is right now. I hope you are well and cant wait for the next video! ^^
this is awesome ✨👍🏼✨ i love street/alley walks in tokyo
These updated haircuts, and the ones with the fades on the side looks so good on you! I was shocked at seeing some of the videos from even a few months ago, and years ago, you actually look a lot older in them. It’s like you reverse aged! (I was just looking at the previews.) I think whatever you are doing in your lifestyle right now, plus the haircuts, you look in very good health and much younger and vibrant. :) (this is the first video I’ve seen, so I will leave feedback on the videos themselves later. But so far I really like the vlogging style and getting to see Japan) :D
Thanks for the kind words :)
Fantastic!
this a beautiful hope one day i can see it in person and enjoy the environment and the coulter
Wow, cannot believe this is Tokyo. Kuala Lumpur Malaysia is almost back to normal now. Everywhere is packed with people as we are not allowed to travel outside of the country, we are travelling within the country quite a bit. We are bracing ourselves for second wave.
So happy I found this! You made my day! I am subscribed now! Thank you!
Wow, that's so crazy to see! When I went to the Asakusa Tokyo area it was so crowded and bustling! I wonder if eventually that area and the rest of Tokyo/Japan will ever go back to normal!
Actually many places in tokyo are back to normal. I’ll be showing other parts of tokyo that’s pretty much returned to normal
I have been here back in Jan, 20 before COVID-19 started. It’s very sad to see this place is empty now but back then very crowded. Thank you for sharing this video.
