I use to live in Sooke and go fishing for shrimps off the dock at night sipping on a beer with friend with a net made from a bicycle rim and onion bag , would catch a few dungeness and red rock too and even a sea cucumber once , great time...I miss it , thanks for the great post .

The crabs are like, "Whoa, the partys in here AND there's free booze!?". Crab on the outside says to the crabs in the inside, " How do I get into this party!?"
That should be all you need. GoPro has a built in mic (though it doesn't work that well in the waterproof case) and there are many mounting option you can buy as well as flotation backs, extra battery backs etc.

+brettler The depth your camera can withstand is not relevant in crabbing. If you're dropping traps in 30' of water off a pier, you won't get any males big enough to keep. Females, of course, are always illegal.
+B Dub As a matter of fact, I have been crabbing from the Sidney Pier for a few years and have caught many many males of proper size. But depth makes a difference for light as well too. How deep was this?

+B Dub its more about the tides, you need to drop around 1 hour before the high slack or the low medium slack tide .
