  • 'Moreton Bay Tunnel Netting' is part of an educational series Where Does Seafood Come From? developed by Oceanwatch Australia Ltd. Each episode profiles a local fishing industry with the view of illuminating the secret lives of fishers. Tunnel net fishing is a traditional technique which makes use of the natural dropping of the tide, to herd fish into the end of the net known as the tunnel. This practice has been going for more than a century in the Moreton Bay region. In the past, fishers have been faced with various sustainability challenges, such as; Turtle and stingray by-catch and high mortality rates for discards. Over the past decade, fishers from the Moreton Bay region have taken real ownership over their fishery, continually striving to improve their practices to maintain the sustainability of all species, their Environmental Management System demonstrates this.
