  • It is the easiest fishing I have ever had. There is no skill. Chicken is the best bait for crabbing. Good luck everyone ;D

    wow those are huge crabs! although, I feel like you kinda wasted them by putting them in the freezer.

      Thanks for reply :) I couldn't kill those crabs alive so I put them in the freezer for a couple hours to make them numb. Is there other way other than putting in the freezer?

    • @chimyshark
      @chimyshark 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@onlysunnydays4552 ohhh sorry I thought you did that to preserve the crabs. crab meat just totally gets ruined in the freezer. I think a half hour to 1 hour should be fine. There are other ways though, using a knife and sticking it through its underside, or you can put it in freshwater for 10 minutes. I'm not certain whether the freshwater treatment is painful though.

    Nice! We can't use the crabhawk in CA. Mainly we use crab snares. Sometimes I use a hoop net to catch Dungeness and Rock Crabs at Pacifica Pier.

    If you live in Sannich or Victoria you don't Need To go to Sooke lots of places from the shore any rocky outcrop with a drop off. Cattle point for example. Also you can catch shrimp off the rocks and docks

      @onlysunnydays4552  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@onlysunnydays4552 look on line lots of info where to crab around metro Victoria. Also for shrimp bait cat food is one for example. For shrimping the docks by the coast gaurd station. Also Cattle point at night by willows beach. But again any rocky area along the shore. Lots of info on google about the Victoria region

    I do not know if you cooked these crab but if you do not cook them before they are not alive any more they can have parasites that are very bad for you. I had a friend from China and he and his friend let the crabs die and then cooked them the next day and overnight both of them got really sick from eating the crab.

    • @onlysunnydays4552
      @onlysunnydays4552  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for explanation Eric. I know about parasites. I always cook them right away after I clean them. I've never let them die naturally. I put them in the freezer only for 2hours when they are alive. After that they don't move so much when I clean them 😉

    How long should the rope be for this particular spot? The rotary pier walkway in sooke?

    Good thing to note is if the legs are soft there will not be much meat in the crab as it has just molted. The harder the shell the more full it will be of meat. Good video OSD.

    It looks like you measure point to point on the Dungeness. In Oregon we measure just in front of the points. That’s an important difference.

  • @joelcr250
    @joelcr250 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    your not supposed to measure them from the TIPS of the points

    • @chimyshark
      @chimyshark 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@onlysunnydays4552 you can measure the rock crab from the points. The Dungeness crab supposed to be the straight part right inside the points. You measured the Dungeness crab wrong but it was still a keeper so whatever.

    • @HuyFishin
      @HuyFishin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      actually in BC canada you measure from the furthest point so she did it correctly.
