Grey Heron fishing and taking a plunge in the pond!

- A Grey Heron stalks my goldfish and even takes a plunge but luckily went away empty handed. Apologies for the sound, film taken from my spare bedroom window right next to the boiler flue. Filmed in Hampshire, UK.
I'm dealing with BigBird right now. Damn things turnt me into a sailor & has me havin demon thoughts. I've netted, windchimed, and motion activated sprinklered my 4-5 foot deep pond. But Tonite, my 4 Cattledogs NEARRRRRRLY ate his arse! WHOOOHOOOO! I live on 2 acres & I'm sure the neighbors think I'm nuts with all the foul words and evil things that come outta my mouth, but Tonite I hollered in PURE BLISS! That sucker seen his life flash before his long necked, pencil legged, fish stealing, eyes, and I was HAPPAH HAPPAH HAPPAH!
I think the best solution is to have a part of your pond which is approximately 4 feet deep.The fish will go there. Herons are waders and a depth of 2 feet seems to be their limit. I suspect those who have lost fish to herons have shallow ponds.

There is no way I would have watched for more than 10 seconds let alone 8 minutes seeing a heron trying to steal my lovely fish.

They are beautiful , fascinating birds, I’ve had 4 goldfish in my pond for 5 years and went out yesterday and they were all gone ! Pretty Sure it was a Heron , oh well , maybe a lack of fish in the rivers for them these days ? I love to see them take off and fly , they look almost prehistoric 🙂
You choose some wild bird over your pets, there are ways to kill them. Protected my a--

I would give that heron a stern warning, that as much as he enjoys a nice fish platter I enjoy roast bird on my table!
Top man for not shooing it away, the heron is just doing what it was born to do. Most pond fish reproduce at a quick enough rate anyway so if it did catch something it wouldn't be the end of the world.

I had 40 to 50 large gold fish in my pond and today saw a heron
Stood at the edge of the pond ,when I went outside to check on
Them there were only half a dozen left and they had been in there years
I had 30 large fish disappear in one night. So upsetting.
