My plans changed because of not passing when I was meant to. There’s a lot to it which still mentally hurts me today and I’ve been on job hunt’s trying to get into a routine as I haven’t had a proper job since covid started. My plan went good but then dipped back down, but that’s life. Plans change and the path we end up on changes us as people as our experiences expand

    • @Beading_Kate

Yes, I certainly have experienced that.
In February 2020 when pandemic hit, I was just few months into Master course of my dreams in Italy… To get there, I worked hard, I dedicated two years to gather creative portfolio and prepare all documents, I made strategic decisions and I had to sell my apartment to cover rather high tuition fee; then I planned to get internships and job through that school’s career center by the end of the course. Well… when pandemic hit, I had to leave Italy and stay in my homecountry until restrictions were lifted. Our studying program was significantly changed due to circumstances and we didn’t receive proper practical part of the course. Anyway, it is what it is. We finished our course online, graduated online. Some of us got the chance to get internships, but it didn’t pay off anyway, ongoing pandemic, economic crisis and decline in fashion industry made it impossible for us foreigners to find a job right after graduation. Employers were like, you’re cool kid, we like your works, but we don’t hire in the near future, because we strive to stay afloat and keep our existing personnel. As young designer looking for a job, it is totally understandable, but it hurts anyway.
I had to go back home and re-evaluate everything. I was depressed and I still feel paralyzed in some way, unable to make decisions, unwilling to make plans. Why plan anything if it doesn’t work? Five years of my life were carefully planned and spent with such determination, but it all seem to be futile. I worked so hard, studied so hard, I couldn’t even visit my grandma’s funeral because I had examinations at the moment… I sacrificed too many things to get this Master degree, but in the end my plans were destroyed so easily.
      It still breaks my heart.

If you want, go back later in life to an adult only program. I did that and let me tell you, it’s SO nice not to have to deal with immature teenagers in morning classes. All my classes started at 6pm and I had lots of older people who I was able to learn from their many years of life experience.

I did that as well, I’m currently taking night time classes with older people. But honestly, are they more mature? At least the ones in my class are super spoiled and immature and want everything done their way and don’t respect professors at all. But one thing that is good is that professors will try to make your life a little easier because they know most of us are student workers and don’t have much time to study.

@@Solip_i I am in America and I had to work my whole life and while in school. The people I went to school with my age were immature, did not take school seriously at all, did not view this as a stepping stone to a better life at all. It was pretty demoralizing to be around people that didn’t give a crap that this was a ticket to a salaried job and the opportunity to get out of low income and away from poverty behavior. I met a couple people abroad while traveling from other countries that were younger than me, and they seemed to take school more seriously and view it as a job, idk

@@martaribeiro96 people my age when I went to school (I was a traditional aged student- so other young people) complained to professors more, did not study for exams, cheated the whole way, did not even try to retain information, and expected acceptance of late work. The older folks were way more engaged and proactive on average (I didn’t meet a single one who wasn’t, but I met VERY few young people that exhibited this behavior), but perhaps it was because they already had responsibilities

I've learned not to plan things too far ahead, usually more than a year in advance (or even months sometimes). I used to do this and then my plans changed, and it wears me down that I change them because I feel like a quitter or I can't keep my story straight. So I have a general idea of what I want and know what I want to do after college, but it's not strict and will probably change. I just changed my plan last week lol. It kind of makes it easier to know that I don't have to follow things strictly and can do what I think is best for me. 🖤

Honestly I think getting experience between your bachelor's and master's is a good thing you can always study in a few years when you feel up to it. I had a lot of life changes occur after my bachelor's and while I watch my school friends go on to master's, I immigrated. I focused on learning to live in a new country, learn the language, get married and become a parent before I got back to my studies in a new field. 1 year left but I am happy I decided to do it. I feel like it was the right decision for me and I am passionate about my new field and it works well enough with my previous study.

I think it really depends. My major requires lots of school to be able to do the work I want to do but many others don’t require that. I’m going into geologic sciences and you really can’t get anywhere without a bachelors or a masters. School isn’t for everyone and it’s incredibly expensive especially here in the US. Don’t ever feel like you need to go to college but up to high school is really important to have the necessary skills to be an adult.

I could relate, I study for my masters and I will graduate in june and now im looking for PhD in Canada but because i dont have money, I look for scholarships.
Its kinda overwhelming and took its toll on my mental health because I didnt get a gap year between bachelors and masters as labs were closed during yk, I wasnt able to fininsh my thesis early, this year is my fourth year in this program and I feel I couldnt study anymore I am so tired but the thing is that I dont have any better choice
I need to go out my country to be with my long distance bf "who is living in another country that is not Canada"
I want so bad to be with him since he got a chance to study there in fall 2023
But here I am 27 years old, unemployed so no income and no job experience whatsoever, I feel I wasted my best years studying and now I dont know if I want to go back to study but the thing is I cant be with him unless we are in the same country
I dont know what to do, like I love him but life is hard :(

I’m not sure if you’re still pondering on your future, but someone asked me a question that really helped me. They asked me what kind of life I wanted to live. When we were you get they always focused so much on “what do you want to do/what do you want to be” but the problem with that question is that they only focus on that paths. When you pick a path, you picked your future- you pick your income, your family life, how much you spend your time at work, who you spend it with a majority of the time. So instead think about the lifestyle you want to see for yourself. What’s important to you? Travel? Having a family and spending time with them? Making an impact in the world? Whatever your values are, they should decide how you should live your future. And then you find the path that’s best suited to get you there. And no matter what don’t sacrifice any of it. If a path will get you close but not everything, maybe try it for a bit- but always know that you can get what you want, you just need to find it and go for it. Good luck with everything! ❤

It's always hard for things to fall through and not go as planned. Sometimes things aren't meant to be, because something better is on the way! That's such a cliche saying, but from my own life and the lives of my friends I can see how everyone is on their own path, and sometimes going down the lesser-known or least-expected route will bring you experiences you hadn't even thought possible. So it is better to have bachelor and start job to have experience - which gives more opportunities then just studies, because almost everyone want you to have experience to start (good) job

That’s why gap years are a trap concocted by people who flunked out of college, to get otherwise smart students to get used to not having to go to class on a regular basis. I did the same thing between my bachelor’s, and grad school, and life took over and I never made it back to grad school to finish my master’s and to see if a PhD was possible. It’s much better to keep pushing until there is no other degree to achieve and you are in your dream career moving up that corporate ladder, not trying to figure out how to find time and money to go back to class because you took a year off to visit beaches. My suggestion, if this is a somewhat current video, is to make a video series of you refocusing back to your education and showing how you do it. That’ll provide you an obligation to keep going, other than a potential career. Make it a daily VLog.

I don't have any student debt because my college is free. I'm studying biology and chemistry. We only have to pay if we don't pass a year around 1000$ or if we decided to unroll from college you also have to pay a 1000 for every year you studied because country paid for it and you unnecessarily took place for some other student. I would say that is pretty fair

Whats the point of a gap year? Why not simply get through school ASAP. I have seen kids in my community take gap years but they get shamed because most of them are not doing anything with that time. Like i get if they were gonna work a job or take a long trip. But majority of these people didn't do anything with the time. And then often you have to start again to get admission. And when you graduate, your friends are already a year into their jobs and saving for a house and buying their first car. While you are in debt hustling to get a job.

i had no idea student loans have deadlines?? that seems awful, they only gave you the notice 3 weeks ahead? what if you don't have the money.. you can't just easily earn 4k in less than a month? i'm not american so i really dont get how all this works, but i've heard people say it took them decades to pay off their student loans so is there only a deadline on some of it? is it not a big deal if you don't make the deadline, or does it mean you'll have to pay more how does it work
edit just rewatched the vid and nvm she's not american but my question still stands what's it like where you live? what would happen if you can't pay it in time? are you just obliged to and then go into debt if you can't afford it meaning you won't be able to afford anything else for months??

    • @macerly
      @macerly  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Here in the UK you will only start paying if you reach a minimum monthly income. Each case varies as it all depends on where you are from and what kind of studies you have taken...etc. If you don't work or don't reach the minimum income, you don't start paying. Otherwise, if you are working and reach the required minimum, a specific percentage will be paid (depending on the plan you are in). The payment period ends after X years, again, depending on your case 😅 It's a bit of a mess and also a sacrifice hehe. I hope I've been able to clarify it for you :)

@@macerly Ah, OK. I haven's asked around much - I just know how much people with a master's degree pay, so maybe it is different? At least for me, the tax break is worth the higher cost of the loan because of the long pay-back period, but I know that some people just don't like the thought of a loan, or think they will have a better chance of getting approved for morhage if they don't have the study loan.
