    I use to throw this speed in highscool. I was 3rd starter in rotation, crafty lefty hit my spots well. 2 guys in front of me threw heat but that's all they had. So much more to pitching. Miss those days, my arms still messed up

      That’s unfortunate. You guys have grown up in the Information Age. Unfortunately not all the info is good info and I think that jacked up your mechanics. I don’t know you so that’s just a hunch. My son is 13 and has been pitching Off and on. His rail thin and only 5’9 with a 6’1 wingspan but throws 68-74. He doesn’t play travel ball. Not going to do all that. It’s too much work on the arm. He hasn’t even hit his growth spurt yet so we really watch how much he works. But more importantly we’ve paid attention to his mechanics. No hard throwing. He’s only went 80 percent max. I’ll let him go as soon as his his growth plates have ossified (turned to bone)
      I do feel for you guys though. Seems like a lot of you are in the same boat injury wise

    • @ranchdressing474
      @ranchdressing474 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheRoadLessChosen hell yeah man, that's what it's all about. Travel ball is just for mediocre kids with bad sportsmanship to show off how much money their parents have. I started last season in 14U rec. ball throwing low 70s, but with just a little bit of extra effort at home in my backyard focusing on good mechanics, I've gotten up to upper 70s and low 80s. btw I'm the exact same size as your kid, 5'9" with a 6'1" wingspan, and velo comes with consistent mechanics and growing into the body. Sounds like your kid's got serious potential, and I'm glad to hear you're keeping him healthy by focusing on mechanics and going 80% rather than blowing your kid's arm out by age 15 like some of my friends' dads did to them with travel ball.

    • @TheRoadLessChosen
      @TheRoadLessChosen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ranchdressing474 appreciate the kind words. It’s a journey not a race. As long as the potential shows and you are working that’s what counts. Unfortunately it’s the fast ball that draws the eye. But if you have a nasty off speed pitch the fastball shows deception. Get your mechanics and 3 pitches. Good luck. I hope you do well. I’m sure you will.
      Forgot to say he’s 14 now and just under 6’1 with a 6’3 wingspan. I think he’s about to have another growth spurt as well. With that being said he did hurt his bicep this summer trying to “throw hard.” He saw the other boys juicing it and thought his strength was in the contraction of muscle and boy did he pay. Yea. When he got pissed he threw gas but he wasn’t in long. Part of the problem was his growth body wise. He couldn’t step too far or he would be on the edge of the artificial mound. He felt a bit awkward in the delivery. Part of that is muscle growth. You boys start feeling that testosterone and think that creates power. Loose muscles creates power with good healthy tension. After the season we took time off and went back to the old feel of just letting the ball go. We went and watched Stanford play my Texas State bobcats in the regional and he got to talk with some pitchers. He was inspired and back at it. His arm is healthy again. No major damage. We did get X-rays. Good news is doc said he had the growth plates of a 13 year old. Meaning he has a ton more to grow.

    There is no counter rotation in his upper half. I feel if he delayed his upper half a bit more(counter rotate and keep shoulders closed) Cad would throw even harder! As long as he can drive is back leg all the way through at front foot strike. Land with hips completely open while having closed off shoulders will take him to mid to high 80's. He definitely has a bit more in the tank.

      See man. I said the same thing. The correlation to pushing and arm injuries is linked. Driving is way better terminology. Kids and many adults take that literally and are teaching it. It’s not a push.

      @seeyouintea6874 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheRoadLessChosen yes it’s definitely not a push. It’s an initial drift of weight forward into a stable back leg that is driving into the ground to produce energy into a rotation that if efficient should lead to a strong lead leg block in return. A push is what you do when you jump not when you pitch a baseball.

      Who knows how old he is? This kid might end up doing big things. Who knows? If you seen my son just walk to the mound you’d say he can’t throw hard but he throws straight gas and it just started after the work. Sometimes things click and you advance.
