Yes, agreed. Also look at the Lord of the Rings trilogy in the early 2000's-- such fantastic costuming and sets with *some* CGI used sparingly and in a smart way. Unfortunately Hollywood prefers CGI now due to the cost and amount of effort needed for productions like these.. back when the technology wasn't there, there was no choice but to put in this tremendous amount of effort/money

Exactly Egyptians were “brown” meaning they had color right? Something that Elizabeth Taylor lacks...Honey I think you’re confused...Not all black people are the color of night sweetheart...Black comes in all different shades, every shade of brown you can think of...black people shades are a variety. Blacks can range from being the lightest shade of brown to the darkest. This movie was very disrespectful and they should’ve had actual black people at least from Egypt or Africa at least to act out their own culture instead of white people repeatedly erasing their history and only wanting them to believe the only thing they were actually apart of was slavery and that’s so not true when before that Africa had a great dynasty of beautiful strong kings and queens, like how would white people feel if a black person or Asian person portrayed King Henry VIII or Queen Elizabeth I or Queen Victoria. The people would have a fit just like they did when a little black girl was in the remake of Annie when that shit was fiction not even an actual story in history 🤦‍♀️ all I’m saying is this portrayal and many others are very disrespectful and offensive to the actual history and culture of the indigenous peoples.

I'm Egyptian, A COPTIC CHRISTIAN EGYPTIAN, I shout that out loud because we are the most pure blooded Egyptians out there and that's not only my opinion that's what Egyptologists, Historians and Scientists also agreed on , and I tell you that every word that Bassem Youssef said is right and I totally agree with him.
Yes Egypt had lots of mixed cultures throughout its history like for example: Greeks, Romans and Arabs, but the Egyptian blood didn't mix and change that much and that's because for centuries we Egyptians had a golden tradition rule to marry our cousins, and that tradition is still present until now especially in Upper Egypt(from Assiut to Aswan), Although that tradition seems silly and bad from a scientific biological point of view, but that doesn't matter, silly or not we kept that tradition of marrying our cousins for centuries and that helped us to preserve our pure Egyptian blood not mixed as long as we could, and the result is what you see now and that is Modern Egyptians looks typical to their Ancient Egyptian Ancestors, just look at my skin color and Bassem Youssef's skin color we are almost the same although he is a Muslim who was born and lived in Cairo and I am a Coptic Christian who was born and lived in Luxor and there is almost a 1000 km distance between us, doesn't that tell you a thing or two about who Ancient Egyptians were and what they looked like?
With all due respect for all the Black people and all the other ethnicities out there, but we Egyptians are special very special, WE ARE NOT Black or White or Yellow, Not Europeans or Africans or Asians, Not Assyrians or Persians or Israelites or Nubians or Greeks or Romans or Arabs or French or Italians or Germans or British or Turkish or Ukrainians, Not Middle Easterners or Caucasians or Mediterraneans or Levants or Amazigh or Berbers or even North Africans.
    WE ARE
    EGYPTIANS,
    WE ARE
    VERY UNIQUE!

With all the costumes, the choreography, the extras, the music, the set designs, and this being only 9 minutes (the ENTIRE scene) out of a 4-hour long film, I mean, come on, it’s no wonder why this film very nearly bankrupted 20th Century Fox Studios! In an interview Elizabeth Taylor said that during the scene where the slaves are carrying her and son down the stairs on that self leveling platform (they had to do a couple of takes), she said she was so terrified, that she was holding on to the back of that kids hair so hard, that she almost ripped the kids hair out by the roots!

    • @toddkes5890

Imagine how much that self-leveling chair weighed that the people carrying it had to carry. it had to have enough weight below the pivot to offset Elizabeth Taylor and the kid, plus the rest of the structure. The people carrying it had a lot to lift.

It was all fizz and no gin. All historically-inaccurate spectacle that boils down to a fairly banal middle-aged romance (Liz and Dick were far more convincing in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, which was, shall we say, more historically accurate). Problem is, at bottom you need a script with something meaningful to say.

It wasn’t a flop movie, but the scandal around the romance between Liz Taylor and Richard Burton was a bigger sensation ,all news paper were paying more attention to the romance then the movie itself as a result few people went to watch the movie ,Twenty century Fox lost a ton of money !
