I didn't know there were any plus scales that also had the pin hole slot. It's really difficult to tell sometimes on ETSY if the plus scales just mean a pen holder extra with the tweezers and toothpick or if there's also the pin hole slot which I would want for my compact.
I 3d printed my own with what is probably the same file with the hex pattern. It needs to be installed with a clamp but it's not going anywhere after it's on. I was first trying to widen the holes too but it was not necessary.
So the second one you said was for a ferrous rod is for a pen. Also ive bought scales that didnt snap on I had to use a vice and they fit incredibly well now.
No, you're not quite understanding. A plus scale has 3 slots. - pen, pick, tweezers. These 3d printed scales had 4 slots. - pen, pick, tweezers + 1 more. Watch again and you will notice. Trust me, I have quite a bit of experience with attaching SAK scales and I know that even with a vice they would not snap on. Watch my updated video of SAK Scales. The seller sent me a better, working version of these 3d printed scales.
Awsome DIY Scales there! - One question do you mind sharing your process or your measurements/templates etc? If so, that would be really cool, thank you!
At 6:40 and at 9:40 both of these scales look really really nice i really like those and I might have to pick some up thanks for sharing this review with us thank you
I total agree I love buying a brand new fresh victorinox or getting fresh new scales but then after very little pocket time the scuff so easily ...... Altho I do find if you buy victorinox camo scales they don't scuff as much
I wish you had shown the back sides. It would have been nice to see the quality of the machining/molding. Maybe you could do a two minute update for us?
I like the Victorinox fiberglass type scales. They fit perfect and don't scratch. Black and red are common, have not seen any other colors. I think I bought them from Swiss Bianco?

I bought those same scales from etsy. They were way too thick and the tolerance was so far off that they didn't snap on. Plus the cutouts for the tweezer and toothpick were too big, but the slot for the pen was too narrow.
Good video. I was curious about the Chinese titanium scales. I'm not that into titanium myself but its good to know. I do love the laser and heat worked ones. I like to sand the standard cellidor scales with a mix of grits in a single straight direction which removes the gloss shine, gives it a textured grip feel and can even give it a wooden look depending on grits used and direction sanded. Looks similar to the one you had made but maintains the color of the original scales. I'm currently working on custom aluminum, brass/copper, stainless steel, and wood scales for a bunch of my SAKs and ones Im making for my friends kids when they are older.
That sounds really cool! Making or modifying your own scales makes them unique and special. I have some copper that I want to turn into scales, some day I will get around to it.
@@FittoSurvive I look forward to that video of your customs. I understand the getting around to it aspect as well. Interesting video, thank you. I've never seen scales with a place for the pin. Is that a pure after-market mod, or do original SAKs come with that as well?
@@beneades1013 After rereading his comment, I realize that he was asking just about the pin and not plus scales in general. 👍🏻 Thanks for catching that.

Great video Cody! I second the customer service from metonboss, I ordered a back scale with clip and was sent one without, he quickly sent me the correct one at no extra cost and let me keep the one without clip, Amazing! I also second the titanium from etsy, just make sure you buy from a reputable seller and establish communication first, you'll be able to determine if you want to buy from them... finally, I recommend you explore Instagram too, many good makers there, making very cool to order custom scales in a huge variety of materials and different finishes/configurations, at affordable prices, if you're sceptical about China made (I live in Hong Kong, I got used to the quality checks lol and some are actually great, was the only way I could get 84mm titanium with inlay!) @@zain1911 I have used scales from Aliexpress (China). It's not a scam. The only issues I have had from time to time is the finish tends to have circular marks left from the CNC machine. But, not always.
That's all great. Anybody out there 3D printing plus scales for 111mm Swiss Army knives? It seems like there's money to be made if someone would just do it.

I think Victorinox only makes cellidor and aluminum (alox) scales. Swiss Bianco makes some really nice scales.
Could you try doing the scales that use screws instead of pins ( or at least it looks like they do).
Absolutely. I have a couple sets of scales with screws that I am expecting. I will do an update once I receive them.
