The Swiss army knife was the first real thing my oldest son saved his money for. It was the knife with like 40 tools on it. Pretty much worthless but he want it so bad. He was about 7 and he saved and saved and was able to buy it. I was very proud of him for for that I think it was the Swiss army knife that made him realize if you want something you have to work for it. It turned out to be a life lesson for him. Thanks for reminding me of that memory.

My favorite is the Victorinox Camper, (which hits all of my tool sweet spots, with the knot-opening, screwdrive-holding, pin-retaining corkscrew.) That said I usually leave it in my briefcase and carry a classic Red Spartan in my pocket. The Pioneer may be the descendant of the first military contract, but the Spartan is the modern version of the original Officer's Knife that soldiers brought home from the World Wars. It made Victorinox knives desirable and famous outside of Switzerland!

The Explorer Model is IMO the most practical . It has enough features without being too big to carry in your pocket .
I gave someone a Champion Model years ago before he left on a cruise to the British Isles . He used every tool on the knife during his trip including the saw and magnifying glass .
I've given countless Classic Models as gifts to women and one time a woman I dated spotted an identical knife to the one I gave her on another woman friend's keychain ( Uh oh ! ) .
My first Explorer Model served me for 28 years as a pry bar, paper weight, scraper, etcher, paint can opener, puller, hammer ( Don't try this at home, kids ! ) , measure and more . I also used it in its intended functions . I offered to make an ad for Victorinox but they turned me down because they don't normally use testimonial ads ???????
If I misplace my Swiss Army Knife, I lose all of my magical powers and turn back into a mere mortal .

    Hello!
Many thanks for posting such an interesting video!
My favorites URBAN EDC Victorinox Knives are:
    1. Delemont EvoGrip 14
It has all the tools I need and like to carry. It’s downside is that the Evo scales make it a thick pocket knife
    2. Sportsman X
I modified a regular Sportsman adding a 3rd layer with 84 mm scissors. Beautiful knife and incredibly practical as an EDC
    3. COMPACT
Probably the best standard EDC for urban use! As I carry my knife vertical by my side with a pocket clip, the 91 mm Compact is a bit long
    4. SMALL COMPACT
Again, I modified a 84 mm WAITER by adding a second layer with 84 mm scissors. The result is THE BEST URBAN EDC I have! It is the one I use the most.
    5. CADET ALOX
As you mention in your video, it is a perfect gentleman knife to use with my suit.
I insist, these are my personal choices for Urban EDC and that have the tools I most often use.
    Take care
    GREETINGS FROM GUATEMALA!

I’m rocking a Classic my grandfather bought in the 1970’s on my keychain still. Blade is sharp, file works great and I still use the scissors a few times a week to trim my mustache.
For something he paid like $7 for close to 50 years ago.. not too shabby.
Only major maintenance I did was clean the interior up with isopropyl and q-tips, then coated it all in Tuf-Glide and let it dry on over a weekend before wiping it all down.
I hope to use it til I croak.

I have carried a Swiss Champ for 44 years and have about 20 other models in my collection every jacket and coat has one in a pocket so I never leave home without at least a 3 layer blade in my pocket. I have never had one let me down and when I did drop one once it was so easy to send it back to get the scales replaced the customer service is wonderful. That was a great Vid just as I expect from someone who is talking about great knives..

    My favorites are:
    - The Deluxe Tinker: My personal EDC for about 5 years, it's compact enough to carry in a pouch and has the three tools that I use almost daily: the scissors, the phillips screwdriver, and the very underrated pliers.
    - The Tinker Small: Basically the tiny version of my Deluxe. Although the 84 mm format is only slightly shorter than a regular 91mm Victorinox, it makes a quite a difference when you carry it in your pocket.
    - The Bantam Alox: Not only it's gorgeous to look at, but it's so slim that it fits inside my wallet! The combo tool is quite useful. I carry it wherever a full-size knife is not discrete enough.
    - The Outrider: The best knife in the 111mm range and the best knife for hiking or any outdoor activity. The locking blade is great for more heavy duty woodwork.
    - The Rambler: A perfect keychain knife for people who don't want to carry a knife! I've gifted this one countless times.

They are good knives but like anything you gotta take care of them. I recommend stone sharpening as anything with an electric motor tends to remove too much material. Electric sharpeners greatly reduce the lifespan of knives in my opinion. I love these, I still carry my compact every day.

I am a knife obsessive and have about six or seven SAKs that I draw upon. I carry the same model the presenter carries daily, and I have found the Army issue with the full serrated blade to be exceptionally useful around the house as well as for camping. Extreme example: Cutting and deboning a chicken I was stymied by something. Maybe my ignorance of chicken anatomy. The poultry shears didn't cut it but the army issue knife made short work. Also, I have the single-blade gardener's pruning knife, a beautiful thing. I use it every day to open mail and cut up envelopes for shopping lists and other bits. I am extremely loyal to several marques: Patagonia, which needs no introduction; Tretorn, the inventor of the modern 'tennis shoe' and a source of outstanding casual footwear, and Victorinox/ Wenger. Life is good.

Finally, the blade on the Cadet is a good size for doing significant cutting while still small enough to make a compact tool to slip in your pocket.

Great video, by the way :)
    Just two small comments:
    1. The Compact comes with a pin by default, but most people don't know that most of the 84 / 91 mm Cellidor knives come with scales that have the hole for the pin, it's just not included out of the box. But you can steal one from the sewing kit of your mom/wife etc. :)
    2. Try to put the Compact's pen under the hook instead of the cork screw. It's much firmer.

@@kylethedalek Both are great. Usually I prefer the Pioneer because it's lighter and I hardly ever need a saw. But when I go to places where I'm likely to need one, I take a Farmer. The Pioneer X is a very good knife as well, more useful in an urban environment. Most of the time, the scissors on my Classic are enough for me, but if I could only have one knife on me, it would be the X. For example, that's what I take when I travel.

Nicola, Victorinox can legally call all of its knives "Swiss Army Knives". Other Swiss companies, such as Swiza, cannot. Of course that this is widely used commercially, especially because the "Soldier" model is currently the only model issued to the Swiss Army. However, Victorinox makes a lot of money by selling the (true) story that its knives were once issued to the Swiss Army (and to this day, one model still is) that they can legally call all of them "Swiss Army Knives".

The Trekker is also very similar to the modern standard issue. My standard issue Soldier is from 2009 though. | Regardless, these have been popular in more Western markets (i.e., the US) for a long time (many decades) as "Swiss Army Knives." The actual company names have been much less well known, at least until more recently.

Its a good selection. I have several of these shown, and want to add the Pioneer X to my collection, it seems like a practical slim EDC knife. The problem with Swiss army knifes is always which one to buy, then once you get it, which one next etc. I always pair them with different functions for different occasions. There will always be a reason to get another. My favorite has to be the Midnight Manager which I find I carry the most and often and like to pair it with a Spartan not to overlap much on function.
