- Super Mario World released for the Super Famicom on November 21st, 1990 in Japan. With the popularity of the NES in North America, and the dominance of Super Mario Bros. 3, combined with the new era being ushered in with the SNES and Super Mario World, Mario Mania was at it's peak in the early 90's.
Mario began showing up in all kinds of different forms, shows, movies, comics, you name it. As his popularity grew he began showing up in different games as well. One of those games just happened to be one of the most critically acclaimed RPGs of the Super Nintendo Era.
This is the story of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.

Hey everyone! Hope you enjoyed the video! Like mentioned in my description, I'm actively working towards archiving/organizing the sources that I've used in my videos. I've found it very frustrating multiple times (which I've mentioned before) how difficult it can be to find the true source of something. One story can be quoted by a famous TH-cam Channel, and multiple articles are written about that story, quoting the TH-cam channel, but if that channel or no one else produces the original quote, it can get lost to time. With that being said, I've created a google doc (and will create new ones with each video) of every source I used while writing and editing the video. You can check it out on a google doc here: docs.google.com/document/d/16oyjn9mfPRkE2psB8OyjSns9QAd-2EfH9hxfd9y6kBM/edit?usp=sharing
Please let me know if you find any oddities/missing sources and I'll update the doc and make a note in the description, and comments.
Please work with me as we continue to further the Video Game History community by citing sources within the videos, and creating a database that others can use to research off of.
Thank you!
Please make sure to be fully hydrated when you do any form of public speaking. I can hear it in your voice, and it makes your video unwatchable for me. Please fix it in any future videos.
Man, first Square Enix, and now Rare. But decades later, they finally put aside their differences... I hope.
?
Square is going bankrupt with their "being Sony's dog, begging for scraps" plan, so they are breaking away and going independent once again.
Microsoft has much bigger toys to play with now, so they don't care if little old Rare goes and plays with their old friend to make a little money and try to figure out how a 7 year old handheld is beating their super box.
This video was really good, keep it up!
Thanks for the encouragement! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Your quality is tops. Thank you.
It's my pleasure! Glad you enjoy my content.
You've got great content, mate! I bought this game at my local Wal-Mart in 1997 for a paltry amount. I still have this exact copy complete in box so this game will always be special to me.
Terrific content. your channel and videos deserve more subscribers and views
Love videos about development of games/the history of them. Would absolutely love to see more especially on some titles that went on to become amazing games but went through hell to develop like Halo 2, Fallout New Vegas, Super Smash Bros Melee etc. Great content!
It would be sooooo nice if you could say what somethings costs in US dollars the moment after you mention the cost of something in yen. I've seen this being a trend and I gotta pause the video, open up a tab, Google it, then come back to the video after I'm done checking any numbers given in the video. Awesome job on everything else though!!
This was the first game I bought with my own money. I was a big fan of Mario and RPGs. Didn't even have a SNES but I HAD to have this game (luckily, I had friends with a Super Nintendo, so playing it wasn't too difficult).
96 was a good year to be a kid. Renting this from Hollywood Video and eventially getting it from Kaybee Toys.
Still can’t believe they never released this version in the UK/Europe until it came out on the Wii Virtual Console 🙄
The box also has a coupon on it that gives you a 4000 yen discount on a Super Famicom.
Interesting! I don't know how I missed that in my research but that's a cool tidbit!
Fantastic video!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for hyping me up!
An enjoyable watch, thanks for the video!
Great video!!! Liked the content with the chips!
Please make a compilation video of some of your series! Your voice is so nice. It would be perfect sleeping material.
So glad to see you posting more often! Another great video : )
This is a great video. Perfect time to talk about it since it came out on Switch last year in November 17.
I remember playing this game summer 96' with no internet or strategy guide-
We had to really use our brains in the 90s!
This video made me an instant fan of the channel!
Happy to hear it! This one was a fun video to put together.
Good video! Looking forward to more
Great video as always brother keep it up
Thank you so much! I appreciate your support :)
I thought that random encounters in JRPGs were because of technical limitations, yet Super Mario RPG was able to show the enemies on the map on the freaking Super Nintendo, so what's the PS1 and PS2's excuse?
super mario brother super show aired before super mario world i believe.
You're correct! I just didn't mention or highlight it, but yes it aired in 1989 prior to Super Mario Bros. 3 animated show.
I love this channel
Thanks for showing your support :)
There's something super cozy about your videos
Thank you! I aim to be cozy. In fact, I intentionally script my videos for people who like to fall asleep to documentaries such as mine. (I am one of those people)
@@VideoGameDocsthat’s awesome! Do you have any fav channels? I just subscribed and love your content, for that exact purpose
Another quality video!
Thank you! Glad you think so.
OMG THE GOAT POSTED (i was named after a certain character in this game)
I hope your Italian parents named you Gino and not Malo.
it's me, hi, i'm the goat
Man this game is so good
Kinda sad Europe never got this game, but on the flip side we did get Terranigma...
I liked this a lot
i hope you soon make a xenogears history video
Oh hi gaming historian
Not quite! But Gaming Historian is an inspiration of mine :)
LOVE THE CONTENT
SEXY VOICE . KEEP IT UP
Square is woke these days, so unfortunately it is bad timing that Nintendo is now working with them on SMRPG again. If we get a long awaited sequel it won't be good, which is depressing. We're just lucky the remake was mostly unaltered, sadly Paper Mario: TTYD wasn't so lucky...
Exact reason I haven't bought a square game in years!
First!
Thumbs down for unskipabble ads for products I don't use. I don't care about Dodge cars and it has nothing to do with video games
You know he doesn't get to choose what ads are shown, right?
