My first car was a 1969 1/2 Maverick with a straight six. I drove the heck out of it until I slapped a bad ass Hipo 289. It ran 12.90 on a 1/4 mile on a naturally aspirated engine that I built myself. I have owned three Mavericks in my life span and looking for number four. They are my life I love the lines and how they are considered a cheap version of Fords grocery getter. They are fast when built rite...they are the Mustang of the US in Brazil, for sure. Would love to go to Brazil to a Maverick car show one day. Till this day my high school Friends call me Maverick.
Maverick Grabber awesome!! Dad is restoring a '70 but has a '69 1/2 for parts. Ignition is in the dash, rather than on the steering column. It's so cool.
I found this Maverick as a barn find of sorts. One of those cars that cried out "save me, save me". It was parked in my shop for a couple of years while I professionally built and restored cars for others. Customers and friends would tease me about what the hell was I going to do with that old Maverick especially since I was building ground up duece coups, Mustang's, Camaro's, Chevelle's, Nova's and the like. I built this car just because I could and, to be truthful, "I'll show you" kinda thing. A year or so later a buddy in Montana fast talked me out of it, just kidding Doug, He added the early bumpers, Hood scoop, interior mods which really finished it This car was originally a 170cu in 6cyl automatic car. I swapped in a 1985 Mustang 5.0 that was built for me by a buddy, Guest Racing engines, Mollala Oregon. It is true roller engine, specially designed and ground cam profile. Heads are reworked resulting in about 9.5:1 compression ratio. Balanced and blue printed. Edelbrock Performer intake and carburetor, MSD ignition, Sanderson headers. I installed a Tremac 5+ 5 speed and smooth as butter hydraulic clutch. The disc brake front suspension is from a Ford Granada. The rear is a Ford 8" with Yukon 3.90 gears. I painted this Maverick in my booth and although it doesn't look like the original Maverick red/orange (ugly) it is. The difference is it's base coat/clear coat and I added some red and black pearl to the PPG DELTRON base coat. Three coats of base topped with three wet coats of mid solids Clear. It was color sanded to 3000 grit finished with Race Glaze cut and puff then clay barred. Paint really pops in a classy way. The drivers Door, valance area under the trunk lid, front of the hood and right rear clip were damaged along with small dings here and there but otherwise a straight old girl with virtually no rust. I pride myself as a panel beater and fit and finish guy therefore very very minimal body filler used. The doors shut and sound perfect as do the hood and deck lid, Ford didn't make them that way. 16x8 Torque Trust ll's rear, 15x7 front as I recall, "stands right". All work done in Beavercreek Oregon. There's much more that I can't remember off hand. People would walk right by fine Camaros and the like to look at it at car shows. Kind of validates your stamp since the car wasn't done. Young people would ask me if it was a Nova or something so much I just started to answer "yes". Probably one of the few I still have sellers remorse over.
74 Mercury Comet, as my profile pic shows, currently about halfway through the process of bringing her back to life. Done quite a bit of metal work, acquired most of my drivetrain parts, just missing a few details. I haven't quite decided between keeping the EFI parts that came with my engine or sticking with a carb. The car currently has the stock 302 with a 1965 Autolite 4100, hard to beat that carb. Ford and Holley got that design right 50 years ago.
The slim bumper Mavericks are GREAT looking cars. America's import fighters were sales failures but the Maverick, Vega, Pinto were all great looking cars IMO. They had some very good body lines 😎
The Maverick is a forgotten gem. Overshadowed by the Mustang.Kinda biased have a 1985 GT but the Maverick is unique in its body lines half way between Camaro and Mustang.Sadly forgotten.
Cool Maverick, but that isn't functional Ram Air, functional Ram Air has the hood sealed to the air cleaner to create more positive air pressure. That is a regular functional hood scoop.
My Mother had a nice blue one of these. It was only about a year old when my uncle was borrowing it and got caught in a minor tornado. He pulled over and ran into a local bank expecting to take shelter in the vault. As the bank manager stood there laughing at him the sign from the roof of the bank blew off and landed on the car pinning it to the parking lot like a butterfly in a collection. Total write off. Sad day.
These cars came with a 3 speed manual on the column. This one must have had a floor shifter installed prob by Hurst. I had the same on mine and eventually installed a top loader 4 speed.
Thirdgen83 i literally laughed when he said it was custom lol, my maverick was missing the trim on the hood when I first got it so now ig mine is custom lol
There are no differences between the body. The hood, grill, tail lights, some interior details, but the actual body of the car is literally identical between them. The Comet and Maverick are pretty much identical aside from a few trim parts, more or less. Same as the Crown Vic and Grand Marquis, just visual differences.
Wow, that car is beautiful. Nicest maverick I’ve ever seen and I put a lot of hard work in my 70.
Never knew these cars cleaned up so well

My dad had a 69 1/2 Maverick, he bought new. It was Anti-establishmint green, with a 170 CID eng. & a 3 "on the tree" speed trans.
BR hue, we love mavericks

The dash and the view of the hood through the inside looks like today's Mustang
What a sweet ride - 2 thumbs up !!!👍

They did a grill swap also and I believe that hood is custom. Nice car.
Yep custom hood using a comet hood scoop

forgotten in the us, but loved down here in mexico and brazil!
that, is one good looking maverick!
I agree! That's a nice shade of red. It sure looks new for an old car
I really like this car how much did you sell it for?
Cool Maverick, but that isn't functional Ram Air, functional Ram Air has the hood sealed to the air cleaner to create more positive air pressure. That is a regular functional hood scoop.

It looks like the ford Capri we had in the uk
Nice looking Maverick! Tail light is out! Wait, did I see the stub from the column shifter still on the column? WTF!
These cars came with a 3 speed manual on the column. This one must have had a floor shifter installed prob by Hurst. I had the same on mine and eventually installed a top loader 4 speed.

If you’re interested there’s videos of it on my TH-cam channel prophinex
I had a '74 Maverick and it had the huge 5 mph chrome bumpers. Shouldn't this one have them?
The vid says they were replaced with '71 bumpers !!
Hard to get these with a 5 speed clutch.
