❤ aww, thank you for the mention! So honored! The Congo tank did turn out to be one of my favorites ( though it's in need of some maintenance, lol )

I call opposites as you say, contrast. Light fish/Dark background, Warm colors/Cool colors, etc. Great suggestions! Thanks for sharing.

I love green plants and red fish already....red betta, red platies, ember tetras, and full red guppies. But these are all great ideas. Thank you.

Well shoot! I'm on the brink of setting up a scape and was planning to use the Congo tetras, but now I need to rethink that. I had watched your Melanie Holmes videos, but it did not clicked until you did the 'show and tell'! Thank You!

Chili rasboras in that first tank too, but I love the red pencilfish.

Contrast considered tanks are awesome, I've been wanting to setup a 'Dark Water' tank with irredescent fish only, Orange Laser Cory's, Green Rasbora's, Glowlight Tetras, Green Neon Tetras, Silver Hatchet Fish, Medaka Rice Fish ...... the contrast in the dark water with a small spotlight across the room at an angle ( for amazing reflection ) and an LED overhead 20w spotlight that gives that 'shimmering' effect like a Kessil , plus a lighted background in a deep orange color coupled with the tannins in the water should be STUNNING. However being on a fixed budget doesn't help. Naturally all black silicone tubing, maybe a 40g breeder and great plant choices including floating plants with long roots to balance the overall effect.

Great things to think about! I have an island-like hardscape design that I like, and I am now obsessing about plants. Since I wanted a honey gourami and the green neon tetras, I really need to pay attention to how they will look with the plants that I was considering. Suggestions?

I like the background to be a frosted white with amber tetras or metal black lace guppy, adding different colored green aquatic plants like anubias stardust and rotala rotundifolia, mountain stones and spider driftwood. This will be my scape in the near future.

Hi Joanna! 😊 Great ideas! Especially how nano fish can stand out against larger wood or stone. I should apply that to my 20g male endler tank. Hope you are having a great day! ☺️💚

The colour of green neons is in the eye of the beholder ;) I myself can't see that green there. No matter the angle. Blue - yes. Turquoise - yes. Green - no. So I would actually like to see them in that all green tank :D

These are great tips. I especially like that 3rd tank, I can see why it's a favorite. I think the lighter background is part of what makes those large driftwood pieces pop & allow the fish to really show up.

Great advice! I have a planted 125l tank with bog wood, black substrate and black background and lots of nano fish. Green neons obviously! Plus ember and Ruby tetras, CPDs, Panda Corey’s and some shrimp. Love how much my nano fish shine against the darker background :)

Good video. Contrasts in color and texture are tips we use in art and photography all the time. All the same rules apply to aquascaping too.

  • @simonbuys

If you want to use stem plants as a background of your aquascape, do you plant the different types of plants in bunches of its own species (for example all bacopa on the left and al pogostemus on the right) or do you alternate between the different species?

Hi I love your idea. I want to make a landscape but I don’t know yet the theme but I do know that I just want to put in a yellow betta and the other fish I want them to be yellow also. I would love any suggestions thanks 🫶🏽

  • @Whips_World

Rocks and wood, good. Whip use all the time. Whip use bigger rock and bigger wood as fish get big so they don't move where THEY want. Big fish move little rock and little wood too easy. Eventually, Whip give up. Fish get too big and even move big rocks.

I’ve seen so many betta tanks that have a white fish with white substrate 🫣 I’m like “noooo!” 😅 Any other combo would’ve been better 😂 But you live and learn and lord knows I’m still trying to figure “scapes” out in my tanks !!
