this song is powerful as fuck, he played it at warped and was pointing out how many people were just sittin taking pictures rather than enjoying the moment, his show was such an experience
Here in 2024, all three parts are still powerful as fuck. I’m jelly I missed it and only found it after the fact. It was is and will be a fuckin banger
I love that Watsky takes us on these amazing trips through our own fears, concerns, loves, failures, triumphs and every little human foible with great emphasis for the chance for us all to be better. No judgement, embracing compassion, and being able to put that to music, spoken word, Life. Thank you Watsky for letting us into your world all these years. Continue creating.
I was on the bus and I looked around and saw this guys phone and I saw the name of this song and I was like “ hmm let’s see what other people are interested in” and I look this up and it’s actually pretty good. Kinda deep about how much we use our phones, so not bad at all. I like the old style music you’re bringin back
watsky has an amazing way of conveying ideas in his lyrics that wouldnt be conveyed by the words in them on their own. I dont know how to describe it. "when the sun burns out, we'll light the world with tiny glowing screens" has a literal meaning, which is pretty deep on its own. But somehow, when watsky sings it, it just has so much more meaning.

For me, Watsky is the kind of artist were I find(maybe most of his works), no to my taste, but then there are some few golden bits spread around, and this one is even more of a diamond!
Same here. He's got quite a few good songs but quite a few I don't care for, too. It's the same way with DeStorm. I don't like most of his music, but then there was Invincible, which was great.
Re-watching some of these videos on my 'Favorites' list puts me in the mood I was in the first time I listened to it and I was going through a really rough time when listening to this song and now this video, although well done, puts me in a depressed mood.
I just heard a few seconds of this song at the end of an MPR segment that was talking about kids that were born with touch screens and how documentaries that were made for virtual reality platform had more of an impact on the viewer than any other medium...
Holy fucking shit just learned about this dude like a week ago and ill i got to say is this dude deserves to be more famous than like 99% of rappers nowadays
i only know watsky by tiny glowing screens 1-3 and sloppy seconds and i already think watsky should be 21 pilot famous. (though in my opinion watsky's better)
The Twenty One PIlots is very different than this guy. I think they both equally as good at what genre and lyric type they do. This is more controversial and insightful on society. Twenty One Pilots is more personal and focuses on mental illness and dark themes. They are both really good and I agree that Watsky should be more popular.
Well said, I came back from a sage francis gig here in the uk and all my friends asked me 'have you got any videos' to which i replied 'no, i lived it, if you wanna live it you should have been there'. People are forgetting what it is to be alive
I was at your show in Brussels, Belgium yesterday and it was without a doubt the best show I've ever been to! Thanks a lot for taking some time to sign CD's and taking pictures with your fans :) You're a source of inspiration to many, including me!
When's the last time you've seen a video tape around? Soon kids won't know what CDs are, let alone a cassette tape. :P (ergo, "Taping the people video taping him" rather than "recording").

@SoonToBeAwesome....I do not think you get the point...So what if he put it on you tube that is the point that he makes... and my point is that books are no longer used and won't you all be sad when the power goes out and the only source of knowledge is the primary texts...that we scanned....because we no longer appreciate the written word...hell even newspapers report that they are losing business to electronics... we used to think and press each other to think through literature...it was thought that this would be better sent to the world at large electronically but alas, now we play apps that make us stop thinking..its sad...what started out as a way to better educate the world and connect them in ways that were previously unavailable....is making it stupider and flame wars become the Internets primary existence..verses intelligent means of filtering knowledge to everyone....
Usually I'm into strictly 90's hip hop.. But this kid's the unlikliest problem in the game! This track, though wayyy far away from my usual style was a BANGER, I'm years late. But here, have a new fan.
You’re killing me Watsky! How can i get off my tiny glowing screen when you rock so freakin hard and keep me coming back for more.........keep turning it up to 11!!!
"Lets not die until we get to fuck a robot" - Thinks how short life is - - Thinks how easy it is for people to die - - Thinks about how no matter what we do we'll be forgotten in a few hundred years - - Gets depressed - - Writes a comment -
Never heard of Watsky before, saw a friend post a video on Discord. I rarely like a song first time I hear it, but this music is amazing! Every song I have played by Watsky tonight (many of them) has been amazing! I LOVE IT! The music and lyrics are GREAT! Keep on keeping on!
I was convinced on new year's that we were 20 years off on our Y2K predictions. I played this song to bring the year in, just in case the world cut off.
Thank you so much for this. I don't know what this means to you, but to me it means that even when the world falls apart, some good people will keep trying to make things better.
Me too. Ahh..!! this time and age-- magic (religion/"superstition") and science, proving each other inside and out; REALIZED... but..We Are All too busy with our desensitized Selves to see as a Whole.. beyond the fractions to LOVE((evolution)) beneath it all...
Dear Watsky, I really love this song and you're entire album. The meaning in this song is very important, that we shouldn't completely rely on technology and not to take it for granted [Sent from my iPhone]
I really hate the whole 'technology is ruining the world' superiority. I like 'reading books'. And 'going outside and doing stuff'. But I also like going online and watching videos of cats, and talking to friends that I've made in Texas and Paris and Holten. I like taking video at concerts to share with friends that can't be there. There are indisputable flaws and issues with the current 'obsessive' use of technology. But reading a book instead of playing brain games on an ipad does not make you superior, nor vice versa. And if you do feel this sense of superiority, I think you should ask yourself why you feel like you're better, because it's at the very least a good question to ask yourself.
I share this sentiment. I keep seeing headlines claiming that tech is making people dumber, but I contend that it is all relative to the individual's utilization of such mediums, along with countless other variables.
Someone entirely missed the concept pushed forward by this wonderfully shaped art. Its not get of your phone, its look up from the screen. Even if its five minutes look at reality through the way your own mind perceives it. Experience your own thought not that of a completely biast news station or person. But, its art so to others i guess i could mean anything
hi there. i agree with you. there are benefits to technology. but there is an argument for people using to excess and shutting people out of their lives. that opening scene with the little girl is why i left my partner of five years, and ultimately his daughter. he never ever put his phone down. oh wait, no. he played computer games up to 16 hours a day and watched the bruins. his daughter complained that he never spent time with her. so. its all well and good to say that technology is great for connecting. but it can damage relationships and its a real addiction for some people. so please. just consider that. there has to be a balance. you seem to have found it. but ultimately. its killing us. and turning us into pieces of shit. just scroll through some youtube comments and tell me that the internet is a great expressive medium for intellectual interaction and justify it all. if you're gonna talk shit about a video like this, please. do us all a favor and make a stand for 13 year old instagram celebrities who will be traumatized. for the rest of their lives. and please defend the people who ruin lives online over a photo or a tweet. i'm all ears. and its fine if you think i'm being unreasonable. but the internet is not a good place. it brings things out of people. good for you that you are a reasonable person. but.... most people aren't. and the internet is an anonymous platform for hate. ugh i feel gross now.
this is to the main girl: YAAAAAAAAAAASS QUEEN SLAY To watsky: hey. I'm that kid and i met you when you came to Charlotte, NC. You were really. Keep writing songs!!!!

Cardboard Castles has to be Watsky's strongest album yet...
So many amazing pieces.
it is and DEATH NOTE
sir i have some good news for you
Came here to listen to all three parts in order. Still as great as I remembered it.
yep 😂
Went to see him in Cardiff live, he finished the show with all 3 in order, Amazing fucking show. (did half of Ugly faces Crowd Surfing)
Yup still good
Yup
Still as great...
as I watch this on my phone
same
amen brother
Wouldn't anything you watch this be on be a glowing screen?
+dresdencypher yes but a phone is a tiny glowing screen
Amanda Allee Yeah but in the grand scheme of things isn't every screen tiny

"We be greedy"
*steals the fUCKIN MOON*
LOL 😅😅😅
You can only steal if something is owned by someone
Titus Tortelloni I mean, I think America owns it, cause we got there first
legokingdoms123456 oh give me a break :D
legokingdoms123456 getting somewhere first doesnt mean you own it if so the natives would have america

[Verse 1:]
I’ve seen a person go to shows and raise a lighter app
But if you’re at my concert please don’t ever try that crap
Let’s set fire to the heavens
Turn the motherfucking speakers to 11, this is Spinal Tap
The future might defeat me, the internet can eat me
It really tastes like chicken when I bite the hand that feeds me
And I say me me, me me, play my CD, CD
Yes indeedy deedy
We be greedy and it’s tragic that we yawn
We got every gadget but don’t care there’s magic in our palm
‘Cause it’s been getting so hot, I can feel the slow rot
But let’s not die before we get to fuck a robot
Because we all need something to live for, something to live for, something to live for
We all need something to live for, something to live for
[Hook]
[Verse 2:]
There was a time before the pot really got strong
Before the hippies got jobs talking long, long
Before the people talked in English out in Hong Kong
Before the holy Dalai Lama had a dot com
Before God’s dad got it on with God’s mom
Before he made us pretty things on which to drop bombs
Before the war crimes
The rich and poor times
I’m talking in the land before The Land Before Time
But then the planet lost its baby fat and got crazy
And we’ve been acting like some fraidycats a lot lately
Something’ll kill us like cigarettes or the commies maybe
Or maybe AIDS or scabies, rabies or zombie babies
Even the KGB, pray we be free from ADD, wade in and bathe in Hades
No army or Navy’s saving me
And I can’t tell our little victories from epic fails
It’s either heaven or hell and I can’t make heads or tails
[Bridge:]
Are we useless?
No excuses
We took the peace sign, reduced it to deuces
"We took the peace sign, reduced it to duces." Amazing.

I will thank my boyfriend for making me look like a dick lol.

One song and I'm a lifelong fan! LOVE THIS
shoutout to the dude on the synth that was sick

Sick ~ Sick ~ Sick :-)
I've just been to his show in Birmingham, England and he sung this. It was absolutely amazing!

Oh yeah makes sense. Yeah this would be really neat to hear on the radio

Just saw Watsky in the middle of no where at an in-n-out and got his pic!!!!! So stoked
I don't know why but the end made me laugh. It was just him video taping the people who were video taping him.
Careful, shows your age when you say 'taping'! ;)
Kids these days don't know what a 'video tape' is. :P
Scott J. Fox I'm only 16, I just...I just live in a bad neighborhood.

Runic, you obviously don't get it, so just stop, he wasn't trying to insult you were most likely born in 02, so it doesn't involve you.
it was actually kind of creepy
Man, Watsky is amazing. His words hit like a brick. I hop he makes it, the world deserves him.

Honestly, I could listen to this playlist every day. These 8 songs are amazing.

Agree!
Smiley01987 gotta say, the wordplay of part two, in my opinion, outshines even this, I'd suggest checking it out :)
I love this song but i disagree watch part 2 it blows this song out of the water... It's amazing
i prefer cardboard castles
And part 2 is actually pretty amazing
George, I want you to know that the only reason I'm writing poetry again was because you inspired me. You are a voice of our generation.
- Makes a song about how often people use electronics
- Puts it on TH-cam
