I love how you call them Datsuns. That's so nostalgic for me. I remember my confusion as a child when Datsuns in Australia all became Nissans again. And after going to Japan and finding out that Datsun was just a particular sub-brand for particular types of vehicles (was it small trucks?) And that Nissan chose Datsun as a name outside of Japan to avoid negative associations, it was kind of amusing, because it was very alien to life today.
But yes, I absolutely love the Fairlady Z derived mould. They are so beautiful in car mode and the bot mode is the perfect blend between original toy nostalgia and cartoon/comic evocativeness.
The Movie Versions of FT Sovereign and Quietus are absolutely outstanding, and are arguably the best two pieces in my detolf display. Exceptional paint and finish.
I think Quakewave still can hold its own with the newer MP releases. Also, I think the MP carbots need a redo. Particularly in scale, since I think they're still a bit too small.
I still think MP-01 Optimus holds up still. Crazy to think it was made around the 20th anniversary of the Transformers, now it's been 20 years since the first MP was made. Wow.
As soon as he said there were cheats on the list, I knew that teams of combiners and dinobots would make the list to occupy a single slot. Surprised no placement, nor honorable mention, of KFC transistor mold w/ variants & cassettes (& their variants). Those definitely would've been one of my 'cheats' to collectively take a single slot. And despite people still wanting the ocularmax versions, the KFC G1 scale still matches their, *_NO WAY, TWO CAN PLAY!!_* iconic appearance. I'm sure it stung a few people to see his arch rival Soundwave mentioned and not him (although admittedly, takara/hasbro SW's weight/heft makes it feel more premium than the 'lightweightness' KFC's blaster exhibited). Also surprised TW's constructor wasn't on the list. That thing set the standard for other combiners, and with all their variants, they have no MP scale competition. Although I have two OSKO color variants jinbao & JJ did of the GT version. Nice big size in individual bot modes, but combined mode matches more CW/UW devy, than constructor in size. I probably wouldn't put contact shot up there. You asked which still "hold up" today, but his placement is _"holding up"_ collectors in completing a team (of target masters?) as soon as he's placed on a shelf. I guess I'm more tied to the look of the tfcon Toronto exclusive for mirage that mmc did than the clean, animation look of TE. I think I even got the tfcon Chicago version first before I realized the difference in translucent parts and yellow phasing... really wanted to track down the sky blue.
6:30 Depends on what you want for an MP Mirage really. TE has the superior figure if you want toon accuracy. MMC has the superior figure if you're more into toy accuracy. The only flaw being that you had to get their Hoist to get the actual toy accurate head for your Sphinx. Which is off course a pretty big flaw lol
Mp sunstreaker may be the greatest of all the officials. It's the pinnacle of toon and real world balance, clever transformation with minimal cheating, beautiful paint, and fun gimmicks.
My favorite in my collection is sunstreaker I was blown away how good it is I like grapple too. I thought this was just masterpiece list I just got the fanshobby thunderclash it's my new favorite love dx9 terror and tfc liokaiser too and I wish I had the maketoys contactshot aswell
For me, I don't feel the need to replace most of my old MP scale bots because except for a few cases like the cone heads and the seekers, and the original Megatron, The designs and engineering are for me the perfect balance between original toy aesthetic and cartoon/comic evocativeness. My love for transformers comes certainly from the cartoon and the original Marvel comics. But MOST definitely, my love comes from my memories with the toys. So for me, my MP collection needs to evoke that combined aesthetic. And some of the very toon faithful bots like the Fans Toys ones or the later Takara ones look really bland, simple and uninteresting next to the older more toyetic designs.
Here in Australia, you can't get a masterpiece Megatron of any description due to the realism of the gun mode. The only way you can legitimately get one without breaking the law is to get a legitimate gun replica collector's licence, which has pretty much the same general restrictions as a regular gun licence.
There was supposed to be a 2022 reissue of Gabriel on BBTS. But DX9 doesn’t give out any information on their future releases and the date keeps getting pushed back. I think Vectron Labs is making a new Megatron, but they haven’t actually released anything so… great talking points!!!! Id like to update my Blitzwing personally… the current offerings are just ok.
Yeah I picked up Gabriel from BBTS this time back in 2020 when he was discounted for 179.99 glad I did. I had to fix a couple of loose ratchets but other than that he's a great purchase and well worth the hunt.
I wonder if the reissue of KFC wreck-gar has the articulated fingers or was replaced with the same hands as the newer junkions. Anyone know? Mike, I’m a huge fan of junkions and I’m invested in eight of the KFC versions. They look amazing together on the shelf.
I've been wanting that MakeToys Point Blank for some time now but the secondary market price has kept me from obtaining it. A figure I feel holds up as just a solid, fun figure is the IDW take on Rodimus Prime aka:Carry that DX9 put out. Those two figures have been on the top 3 of my must get list.🤞🙏
PPL are acting like all 5 dinos from gigapower have been released in weathered version... We have been waiting for more than 3 years for only the 3rd one. We are still 10 years away from a complete set... If ever...
This was a great video, but also a depressing one in a way. Lol. Just from the aspect that so many years have passed since many of these came out. But they do all hold up for the most part.
4:20 With all this talk about a comeback I hope Maketoys finishes the Autobot Targetmasters and Headmasters BEFORE they throw some new designs into the ring. It's what people are most waiting for from them. Well that and a toy colors Gundog reissue with a better face.
The metallic set is likely to be fully reissued within the next year or so. Currently though only two of them (Guttur/Snarl and Grassor/Slag) are up for pre-order right now at a lot of stores. If you want the chrome set it will be a little harder to get because chrome Grassor and Guttur have been sold out for a while. The other three chrome GP dinos (Superator/Grimlock, Graviter/Sludge and Gaudenter/Swoop) are still available at a lot of stores, though. As for Gabriel, ShowZ and BBTS still have pre-orders up for him but there is no ETA on when he will arrive. He's been up for pre-order for over a year now so there's no telling when it will actually be available but if I were you i'd secure a PO if you can because when he finally does arrive it will sell out pretty fast.
@@UnicronsLeftNut Thanks, crystal clear! I'm looking for the chrome version but my only hope at this point is only in a reprint... I preordered Gabriel at show.z.
FT Galvatron and Cyclonus I agree are amazing figures. Hound... not so much. He looks great, but the transformation and the build quality are a turn-off. MP-13 I still love too. MP-29 is okay. I really wish someone would take Newage's Shockwave and used it as a basis for a new MP Shockwave.
I'm new and very green to collecting MP Transformers,. I see how this can get very carried away and costly, so I am limiting my collection, for now, to toon accurate., or as close as can be, and just decepticons from S1. When I was getting Megatron, everyone else said IT-01 was the best toon accurate one... when you got to Megatron, IT-01 didn't even get an honorable mention. why is that? I get that this is all opinion.. but surprised there wasn't a mention.. why is that? I'm asking to learn, not to criticize. thanks.
The Datsuns, Wheeljack, and Sunstreaker molds are still great molds. The Ironhide and Sideswipe molds are most in need of a 2.0 redo IMO.
I just want a new sideswipe since mine in car mode barely even rolls in the front for both wheels
I love how you call them Datsuns. That's so nostalgic for me. I remember my confusion as a child when Datsuns in Australia all became Nissans again. Ironhide just needs a face-lift to get rid of the hip kibble.
The Movie Versions of FT Sovereign and Quietus are absolutely outstanding, and are arguably the best two pieces in my detolf display. Exceptional paint and finish.
Darn miss this... would of put KFC Simba in the mix great figure.. Awsome vid. 🌟🤓
I think Quakewave still can hold its own with the newer MP releases. Also, I think the MP carbots need a redo. Particularly in scale, since I think they're still a bit too small.
Still think the Jinbao Devestator is the best looking Transformer ever built
The only reason MP36 “holds up”, is because it’s all that’s available.
I still think MP-01 Optimus holds up still. Crazy to think it was made around the 20th anniversary of the Transformers, now it's been 20 years since the first MP was made. Wow.

I prefer MMC Sphinx over the Transform Element Mirage.
I have fanstoys as bots and Giga as Dino’s in my shelves.
I have the Gigas in robot mode and the Fanstoys in dino mode 😂
Goose in the thumbnail is both hilarious and sad as we're still waiting on a complete Fanstoys combiner.
Great list, I'm a Fanstoys dinobot owner but I'm getting into Giga with these reissues. I can't wait to check them out

Giga Dinos🦖 are so far my favorite shelf.
As allot may hate it, the mp 11 molds are awesome who love the seekers and f15's equally

Thats crazy. Sounds like they are going overboard down under.

I my honest opinion I think Masterpiece Sideswipe mold will forever hold up
Inferno/Grapple mold still holds up IMO

ShowZ is gonna be releasing DX9 Gabriel again soon. I saw the preorders for it recently.
MP Inferno/Grapple and Maketoys Downbeat for me will occupy my shelves for
a very long time
Like I said, Hot Rod, Soundwave, and the Datsuns (I guess Wheeljack, too) are literally the G1 toys with extra steps.
I agree with Soundwave and the Datsuns but, not Hot Rod. His robot mode is off and he's too tall and skinny.
Hey mike do you think I can switch the legs of mp44 ko to mp44? Because if i can i dont have to worry about the knees being broken off..
Some are just the definitive versions of the character
You put that out dated mirage in the rankings over galvatron? Only give him an honorable mention?

How about vintage transformers?
I only have the Hotrodimus in the MP line. But in my collection, my fave is the Megatank Monocrat (Megatron).
The MMC homers are the only ones hating on TE Mirage.
PPL are acting like all 5 dinos from gigapower have been released in weathered version... We have been waiting for more than 3 years for only the 3rd one. We are still 10 years away from a complete set... If ever...

All are good! !!!
MP 18 is perfect
Does mp-35 grapple still hold up?
4:20 With all this talk about a comeback I hope Maketoys finishes the Autobot Targetmasters and Headmasters BEFORE they throw some new designs into the ring. It's what people are most waiting for from them. Well that and a toy colors Gundog reissue with a better face.
Indeed these are must have! I missed the Gigapower and the Gabriel: will they be reprinted?

mp soundwave ( still great) could use with an upgrade
My dinobots pics, yay.

MP10 is the best
