    About the Aviana Duskfallen vs Temporus debate, keep in mind that Temporus gets HARD countered by Aviana, as you can Aviana the first turn given by Temporus and then use the effect the 2nd turn. You can make a solid argument that if your opponent fails to kill you through temporus you can almost assuredly kill them so it’s at least coinflipping the game to win rather than coinflipping the game to potentially get a 0 mana big guy that does nothing.

    I think another thing that theoretically makes Millhouse less garbage than Aviana is the fact he can come down so much earlier, when decks playing a lot of big cards should theoretically have a smaller hand(and thus be less likely to demolish you.) The fact it makes ALL spells cost 0 is garbage, but as we saw during your video of trying to play him a lot, sometimes people just don't have spells worth using on turn 2. They'll ALWAYS have something to use Aviana on, even if it's just killing her for a tempo boost.

      I mean, Temporus had a meme deck use. Before Illucia got gutted in effect, you could do a time warp otk in Wild by playing a bunch of grave horrors+arcane giants for 0 mana, then Temporus + Illucia (ideally reduced in cost by Nozmani Bloodweaver). Swapping decks with Illucia's old effect made it so you got your opponent's turn from Temporus, which the giants no longer had summoning sickness and could go face.

    I got legend with Temporus in priest. I played a deck called Wall priest that was about cheating out big minions. It struggled with some tempo decks, but it would often be at 30 health since you played like tar creeper and similar taunts early on. So I'd play this guy, or even cheat him out, and give the opponent two turns with an empty board and no threats. He does like 15 damage, but i can always clear the board as priest at this point and Priest had a 4 mana heal 12 card. Basically this was an anti tempo tech in a tier 2 deck.

      @Lukas Nero the deck had one good match up. Control warrior. It was like 80:20. And Malorn was good in that match up and made it a 90:10. Just for posterity sake, I'm gonna repeat here what I said in chat:
    Temporus, as much as it would lose you the game now, it ACTUALL saw play! Not competitive, but there was a strong deck ot Miracle Dragon Priest that ran it.
    You gotta remember that Temporus was in standard at the same time as Awaken the Makers, Raza, Lyra, Radiant Elemental, Shadow Reaper Anduin, the dragon synergies from Priests and most importantly Divine Spirit and Inner Fire.
    Back then you would play this card in the late game, when you already used your Mara to heal up to 40 health, and you already transformed into Shadow Reaper Anduin. You play Temporus while ahead, the opponent responds to it and another threat you might have on the board, but unless they are Quest Mage or Bloodreaver Gul'Dan, no deck could stop what came next.
    No deck could muster 30+ damage to kill you in two turns, specially if you played Temporus when you had a board, they would take their two turns, damage you a bit. Then on your turn, you play Lyra, then Radiant Elemental, then another Radiant Elemental you would copy or discover, then the miracle happens. On your full extra turn you have 10 mana, spells discounted by 2, Lyra generating you extra free spells, among them Inner Fire and Divine Spirit, plus the Anduin hero power dealing 2 damage for free and reseting with every card played, and you finish them off going face with a 48/48 Radiant Elemental.
    The only reason why Quest Mage would stop it is that they want an extra turn to kill you with Antonidas, that was the entire point of the quest, and Bloodreaver Gul'Dan could be slapped with no drawbacks and put a couple Voidlords between him and your buffed minion. But guess what? Against those decks you just don't play Temporus.
    For a small frame of time, Temporus allowed a combo Priest deck to be consistent and be meta, and the only reason it didn't see play in competitive was because two of the most popular tournament decks were exactly Quest Mage and Cubelock.

    • @matheusmterra

    Poor Prince Valanar. Honestly, if he was a 4/4 Taunt Lifesteal WITH NO CONDITION whatsoever, he would've struggled to be anything more than a good Arena pick even when he was new. It's like sure, that's not bad, but it's not bad in the way a lot of fringe playable pack filler is not bad.

    Acidmaw actually did see play, but only very early in the Grand Tournament. I saw them mainly on some aggro hunters as a good way to clear any big taunts you're desperately throwing on the board to stay alive. They usually had their board full with small minions, threw down Acidmaw, killed your 2-3 taunt minions and have the rest continue to go face. After that you couldn't throw down any taunt minions again because the hunter would just keep clearing with his small minions, and with every minion being so small the hunter had nothing to lose on their side. You had to answer it and yet stay alive. Along the way we got plenty of cards that are simply way better than Acidmaw, that's why it never seen any play again.

    With Milhouse, your opponent might not be playing spells or have few or no spells in hand. It may also be that it doesn’t make sense for them to play the card at the time. You can also evolve into Milhouse, recruit or cheat him out in other ways.
    Aviana’s main disadvantage is that she’s mid game and gives a huge advantage to your opponent as long as they have a minion. Aviana also has to survive this next turn. You don’t want someone to evolve or recruit Aviana because you already had to use a card to do this, so you don’t get the benefit. One of the only exceptions would be Y’sharj pulling her from your deck at start of turn and allowing you to cheat out something big. Back in the days of Kobolds and Catacombs, I actually got close to legend playing a Call to Arms paladin deck with Dirty Rat and Millhouse. Turn 4 Call was so insane when you got those two because you get a big taunt to shut down aggro, and a beefy 4/4 to contend with other midrange threats. I even played Millhouse on turn 2 if I had it in hand, which admittedly lost me some games, but a surprising amount of the time, his battlecry actually didn't end up backfiring too horribly, so it was just a solid card.

    I'm surprised nobody defended Malorne initially. It definitely saw play when it was released because mill druid was a deck that also played the 1 mana spell that gave a minion +1/+1 gain armor equal to its attack. That combo is a 8 mana 10/8 gain 10, don't lose to fatigue and that's a strong combo against control

      @@Rarran must be what I am thinking of. I remember druid basically tried to end games by ramping to the savage roar combo or just huge minions since most classes only had a handful of ways to deal with big threats.
      Druid also was on the better end in terms of card draw so they didn't stall out as quickly and had a decent chance of playing it again if the opponent used their BGH on it. (God, I'm now remembering when BGH, ironbeak and acidic ooze were just common cards to include in a deck).
      I don't remember what rank I played back then, so might have been he only showed up in wood league.

  • @tubey84

    Milhouse tended to make people panic back in the day - they'd use spells they shouldn't be using on a 4/4 just to not lose momentum. But it all depends on playing him on curve. It was actually pretty rare that you'd lose the game outright on turn four as they wouldn't have the capability to do it.
    Playing Milhouse any time after turning four was suicidal though against most classes.

    You know, I thought Aviana had this in the bag but uh...that comparison at 22:57. Aviana PROBABLY loses you the game. Temporus DEFINITELY loses you the game. At 7 mana, there is 0 chance you ever get the upside from Temporus.
    Rarran I have a challenge for you. Since you genuinely seem to think that Temporus has an upside, I challenge you to make it work in one single game. Play games with Temporus in your deck until you can play it and benefit from the "upside". It's a priest legendary. A class that famously sacrifices tempo for answers.

    Technically for the boogey vs antonidas discussion:
    With Antonidas, you wait 3 turns, then you do 6 damage to 3 random targets
    With Boogey, you deal 6, 8 and 10 damage to targets of your choice

    • @chipchippahson
      @chipchippahson ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Antonidas has an effect on play. You don't play it on board and wait 3 turns. You just play cards in your deck you'd be playing anyway to set it up. Boogeymonster was literally spend 8 mana do nothing.

    • @tumbleglass4620
      @tumbleglass4620 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chipchippahson My point being: boogie is an 8 mana do nothing, and then deal progressively more damage over 3 turns
      Antonidas is spend 3 turns playing potentially unoptimaly, and then yeet 3 random fireballs
      Antonidas has a more immediate effect but it's lesser, and requires more setup
