LOVE the review of the learnings at the end. Like anything, grading has skill and technique involved and the more you do it, and the more you experiment to see what works and what doesn't and reflect on those learnings, the more and more predictable it becomes. Doesn't mean there won't be bad orders...even the most experienced graders with a high level of accuracy on predicted grades will get the odd one or two orders where it all goes to pot...but definitely those can be minimized.
I'm trying to be humble enough to continue to learn. My biggest takeaway from this one is how important discipline and consistency are when implementing what I know. I do continually pick up tips from channels like yours. Just gotta keep submitting. That two row box is still staring me down 🤣
Great video, great tips. Confirmation bias is a big weakness of mine when it comes to submissions, and I try to check myself on it before I submit. What I mean is: If I have an iffy card that I really want to gem, I tend to search all slabs until I find a card with a similar print line or whatever and think "ah, see, if that gems, surely mine will too!" but then I remember the graders are human (like you mentioned) and I have to accept that even if the same card with a line gemmed, I'll be the reversion to the mean 😅🤣
I battle with the same thing. I generally work off the premise I'm looking for a reason not to send a card in. But when you've got a low numbered Lebron staring at you, it's easy to tell yourself that corner isn't that white or that surface issue isn't that bad.
I hope I remember all of this when I get to the point of doing some grading. I know the video is here forever, but I am lazy and may not remember to come back to watch. I am sure you will have more later too. Thanks for the knowledge!
I am planning on doing a PSA tutorial series to pass along what I can. My best advice when starting out is look for a reason to not send the cards in. Soft corner, light scratch on the back, whatever you find. If you can't find a reason, then you can feel good about sending it in. Same principle when I interview potential candidates at work. I look for a reason not to hire them. It's a good way to never ignore red flags.
@@huxbux I am hiring right now, so also good advice there. Thanks! Found a Lebron rookie in my old collection the other day. Going to have to do some scrutiny on that one.
Best advice for interviewing imo. Nice find man! Now that's one you can be more lenient on. I'd of course check what different grades sell for versus a raw, but something like that you can still do well in a 9.
Sorry for the timing of the grades but still a great lot of cards . I really enjoyed and appreciate this information. Thanks for sharing this video 👍 💯.
2:30 I want to come to your house and bring you some Flutie Flakes, Buffalo Wings and some folding tables! LOL! Nice Fire CJ and like the look of the GENO Smith.
As a dolphins fan I feel your pain. Sorry it didn’t go as well as you hoped. It’s still a great group of cards and I’m sure your next one will be better! Great video 🔥
Great video. Congrats on the Stroud ten on the fire emoji. Excellent advice. I'm just about ready to take the leap and do my first submission. My only issue with this video is that you obviously don't know how the world works these days everything is someone else's fault.
I have been planning a series of videos about grading to cover everything start to finish. It's keeps getting out on the back burner, but I'll try and get to work on it 👍
I'm still learning with my psa submissions too. One thing I try to do is never send more than 1 of the same card. I don't know if it helps but that's just me lol
It's great that PSA has started to have some transparency in their grading, but having to pay $129 for express submission to get grader notes per card is ridiculous.
Seems you’re in the same boat as me on learning the timing of sale. Gotta buy raw, grade and most important SELL BEFORE the season starts. That CJ fire is only mid 400 to 500 card now
I know what I need to do, but honestly put it on the backburner while I focus on YT. I need to make the time. I saw the last two comps dipped into that range after previous sales were higher. I think if you BIN that card and wait for the right buyer, closer to the playoffs, it's well above that.
PSA 9 typically sells less than RAW now - not $18-20 more. This also doesn't account for eBay fees and what you originally paid for the cards or boxes cards came in. Profit here is being used in an extremely loose and clearly overly generous usage.
Youre correct. I didn't include eBay fees. So, yes, the actual profit once sold, if all are sold on eBay, would be lower. I'll take issue with the statement PSA 9s sell for less than raw. For low to mid-end, they sell for as much or slightly more. For high end, they will sell for less.
Dolphins should have been good this year. But, you can never predict injuries. Very unfortunate. I'm a huge Dolphins fan and had my hopes crushed this year.
The NFL can ve brutal to predict. I legit thought the Dolphins would be the team to beat in the AFC East. Depending on Tua, the team might be back to square one. Even though you're a Fins fan, I feel for ya.
I will be receiving my 2nd graded shippment soon. I still have lots to learn. Also I have some thick cards I want to grade but from research I think PSA is not the company for thick cards? Any feed back on that?
I honestly don't have experience with any other company other than PSA. I've heard that Beckett is more desired for the value of a thicker card. I've also heard SGC is a bit more lenient on thicker cards. Just what I've heard people say. Zero experience with either.
TH-cam card idiots like us NEED to watch this. A lot of honesty and didn't blame the grader. Nothing more annoying in this world than a guy that points out the bad centering, corners and blame PSA for their 8. I point out why a card got a 9 or worse so I and others can learn. Good reveal and I hope the sub works out for you.
Never had anything worthy of sending in. Also,it's kinda expensive.

I was interested in doing psa grading soon! Thanks bro this vid helped me a ton!
I’ve just gotten into PSA grading and this was a super helpful video! Thanks for all the tips!
Good to hear. I'd like to do a more thorough PSA tutorial down the road.
I hope I remember all of this when I get to the point of doing some grading. I know the video is here forever, but I am lazy and may not remember to come back to watch. I am sure you will have more later too. Thanks for the knowledge!

Just got back my order from PSA right before the NBA season. Did pretty good. 15 gems & 5 mints. First order too.
I'd call a 75% gem rate better than ok. We'll done 👍
Great video! No idea what cards I’m gonna submit though haha
Thanks for the tips!
👍
Sorry for the timing of the grades but still a great lot of cards . I really enjoyed and appreciate this information. Thanks for sharing this video 👍 💯.
Thanks Jeff. Appreciate it!
Sweet submits.

In a video game, of course. I'd probably break something if I threw myself through a folding table. 🤣

As a Bills fan, def not upset the Fins are flopping. Sorry man 😑 Always a bright side to everything.
@@huxbux haha it’s all good. Friendly rivalry is what sports is all about! Looking forward to your next grading reveal 👏🏼

Goodluck on your sub. I'll take the blame if it goes sideways 😉
That C.J. Is fire! Can you do video on how to submit your cards and ship them to PSA for us new folks to grading?

@@huxbux awesome. Your videos are great man. 👍
I did the same thing with rushing a order because of the deal. I didn’t do as bad but it wasn’t great either!
It's def less than ideal. We're probably all guilty of it, I'm sure.
Great video

I've never shy'd away from sending multiple, but I can understand why you wouldn't.
That Stroud made the video… thanks for the info.
Saved the sub for sure.
It's great that PSA has started to have some transparency in their grading, but having to pay $129 for express submission to get grader notes per card is ridiculous.
They talked about charging for grader notes on lower rate submissions. If it's a couple bucks, I might be interested.

It’s always a bummer seeing a flaw on a card you’re excited about when pregrading.
Biggest bummer of them all for sure.

Your ratio of 10’s, 9’s, 8’s is exactly what I got on my last order. Interesting isn’t it….🤔
By far, my worst order to date. I wasn't when it went out the door. Is it a trend? Would need more gem rate data to know. Love your channel btw.
@@huxbux thanks! Yep, I think they got tougher than normal
MEGA MEEEEE!
They have been tough lately and I think they are doing small damage themselves then giving bad grades.
Maybe, but I'm taking the L on this one. I knew when I was putting it together, it had a good chance of going sideways. Good juju man 🤣
Timing seems to be very important 😭
If you want to maximize your potential value/profit, most definitely.
Victim blaming 😂
Am I projecting? 🤔🤣

Then I'm an idiot too. Its kind of shocking how little good info there is out there on grading.
You can’t win everytime 🫣🫢🤭
If we did, life would be so boring. 😉
