the person that sacrificed his life was an adventurer from tsige that traveled with them there also shiki confirmed if lancer knew how to use his abilities more creatively he would have lost but becaeuse lancer has less experience with oponets knowing everything about his abilities and his hibrus caused him to lose the fight becaeuse shiki used a lot of his arsenal to take him down to the point he was getting tired while lancer seemed to have more stamina at the begining of the fight when he was at full health but only lost more stamina due to shiki's sword having a curse aplied to the target that hampers their stamina and other things
Shiki was simply better prepared to confront that dragon and most of the tricks it could show up during the fight. He also had trained a lot for that very fight and was not overestimating himself. Lancer was mostly acting like a spoiled brat, much like its previous form, the typical overconfident underage bully at school. You do not win against a serious opponent with that kind of attitude. This was mostly a one-sided battle, much like Makoto had foreseen.
