Turns out that years of being one of the only people posting advance wars content is paying off! I'm getting back into shape for the re-boot and content like this is perfect. You don't simply put out videos where you slam through a mission and show off how awesome you are. Well put together explanations of mechanics, map design, co balance, and more and paced well. Watching this doesn't feel like 50 minutes of time spent watching someone else play advance wars.

Do remember you can use the replay feature while the match is still going on, so you dont need to be actually there for the enemies turn and can do other stuff and once its your turn again you can just use the replay feature to see the exact things you would have seen if you payed attention during their turn. This is especially good for long games as you can even go back to check if he ever moved a damaged unit into a forest to trapp you.

I love how he says it was a very high skill match with very small mistakes but like every turn he says "Here's another massive mistake of him"

Those empty silo isn’t urban terrain for candy. So keep that in mind while playing against her.
Yep: silos (fired or whole) get no Kindle attack bonus, and don't experience Urban Blight.

Advance Wars by web is geared toward asynchronous play where each player can take as much time as they want to play. Live reactions to each turn wouldn't be as interesting I think.

The two main mistakes your opponent makes here, if I'm not mistaken:
1. Undervaluing Com. Towers
2. Not rushing the contested properties
I might add a 2a for not abusing join-capping that one time with the Com. Tower.
As for not considering Adder's power, I'm actually not sure he had vision on your tank at that point? I didn't bother to check though, lol. But you did just finish killing all of his recons just before that happened, and the tank was pretty far back. I think he just so happened to move the A-Air one tile out of the tank's range, but Sideslip let you take a critical shot on it. But again, maybe I'm wrong!
I re-watched the vid and yes, the jess player can indeed see the tank.
Day 8: 26:07 sees first tank
Day 10: 31:27 sees second tank on the same spot.
If he looked at enemy movements he could have known that mangs got 2 tanks even around the same spot.

It feels almost a little cheaty to me to watch for moving units during the opponent's turn, though. It makes sense to do it if it's in the game, but it feels similar the screen-watching in a split-screen game, you know? You can't do that on a GBA when passing a copy of AW2 back and forth.
Small thing: With your bottom-left base, you could have had your infantry step into the river instead of taking the road to capture one of those cities a little faster. It's something your opponent was doing, which is the only reason I noticed it.
On a different note, there were some times when your opponent just... didn't move some infantry at all. Like on Day 5, when an infantry could have moved closer to the center, but didn't.

Yeah.
Andy was the balanced, no flaws CO with a simple to understand power in the first two games.
Andy aged poorly, since Dual Strike introduced CO's like Sasha, who have no flaws AND have a mild upside, he should have gotten either the 3 HP repair, or half price repairs or something to keep up.
For what it's worth, the 3HP repair IS a downside in it's own right, since it means using bases to refuel and rearm gets more expensive, and makes getting port-slammed even more painful.
@@aprinnyonbreak1290 Right? If Rachel healed 3 HP for the cost of two, it would be significantly better, especially when considering that, as Mangs pointed out, in high-level play, that extra healing barely makes an impact.
I always describe rachel as AWDS's Sturm to my friends, that super power is just so good.

This is Great Entertainment and also a big help to learn from.
22:15 he may have built it there because he was planning on building a mech closer to combat. The anti air can get into combat faster than the mech can from that location. I wouldn't have made that choice but that could explain his decision.
Possible but still a questionable decision since instantly threatening a bcopter and stopping/repelling said copter instead of a mech who can do nothing in that situation.

Its probably also Important to explain that Transport Helis, Landers, Blackboats and APCs work kinda differently in AWBW then they do in the normal games. You can move them, do something different and then unload at a later time, this means that you can for example use an APC to reveal something in a forrest, kill that enemy in that forrest and then unload a unit from that APC into that cleared forrest, this also allows you to move a Transport wait with it, then load an infantry in it and unload it instantly, in some situations you can artificially increase moverange of units that way by one(this might not allow you to attack farther away then the move range it does allow for positioning or blocking though).
As someone who has never played an advance wars game I like these videos because your commentary makes it easier to understand what's going on in the game. It would be interesting to see a boot camp type series from you explaining Advance wars from the basics up, like the mechanics, how units work etc.
Commentary makes games so much more interesting. I do the same thing for a game called Forts!! By far the most interesting videos for sure.

Love these multiplayer gameplay reviews. Gives us new players a look into how to actually play instead of VS AI tactics.
Mechs can’t chase anything so they have to be in an optimal position/situation to be good. They move less and cost more than Infantry so are less effective for capturing, and your opponent always sees them coming unless there’s a lot of woods. Mechs are pretty useless if Infantry are blocking their path like at 30:30. No matter how cost-effective they are against Tanks and other vehicles, Infantry are always more cost-effective against them.
This, they are great to defensively punish any vehicle overextending to attack one of your units, emphasis on defensively. In fog of war you can also bait a tank/recon to attack your recon/tank/infantry while having a mech 2 spaces away hidden, but this is very situational and most people won't fall for it unless they have something backing up their advancing unit. But other than that leave mech spam for Sami and specially Sensei unless the map screams mech op
what really makes your AWBW commetary videos even better are the focus points you include at the beginning of the video for players looking to learn and be on the look out for as the video goes on
takeaway points in these kinds of videos are always helpful and i hope to see more of these in future commentaries

Pretty cool of you to be working on a new tier list for Dual Strike even though it's not getting remade. The game is still fairly accessible being playable on 3DS and Wii U, and I've been getting into the series thanks to a friend. The broken balance makes it the funnest single player experience of the lot but I imagine PvP is hell lol
Good lesson in the video for Battlecopters. Forcing an opponent to build 1 to however many Anti-Air they need to build to stop your 1 Battlecopter with free range of movement is so cost effective. Anti-Airs can’t chase across mountains so you’re basically forcing your opponent to either build more Anti-Air or let your Battlecopter survive.
What about missiles?

This is really enjoyable despite my lack of skill in AW multiplayer as I’ve never done pvp…..
Also with the intro it almost seems like we are in school going over something and Mangs is a teacher saying we will learn x,y,z today.

I strongly agree on the Time Limit in multiplayer matches, especially if it's done like in Chess. Turn limits can kill certain long-term strategies or COs like Hawke or Von Bolt who need a lot of time to prepare their powers, but it would be pretty cool to see matches where one player creates a good defensive strategy and just makes the opponent fight the clock.
The only thing that is better than your match analysis is the video thumbnail, it's so hilarious.

Give it a try; I actually recommend AW2 if you're trying to get into the game. It's super fun and easily emulated.

His Infantry is just standing there, menacingly. Surely, you can just wipe it out with your Battle Copter. Surely, the Medium Tank you have there is in no danger. Surely, it's just a bluff, surely, no sane commander would ram Infantry into a Medium Tank.

Keep in mind AWBW does make some balance choices, so tier lists might not be the same. Rachel for example only has a 2-range on her Missiles. Still cheap for the cost of the power. I would maybe on have her fire two, or increase cost of SCOP.
@@RadioTails AWBW has 5 different tier lists depending on which kind of game you play, and adder is on the last of all of them

Hey dude huge fan of your casting PvP replays, I am kinda steering clear of your single player campaign mission videos because I want to use my own strats when I play the remake but as someone that would love to finally give this series a fair shake in multiplayer, these replay commentaries are awesome.

I'd love to see these live rather than as replays. Not that the commentary isn't good, but it'd be cool to see it going down rather than just talked about.
Problem with that is AWBW games can take days, weeks, or even months with how it is set up.

18:40 you didn't bring this up but I think this was actually a pretty big mistake that you got away with, because if you count the spaces the battle copter is now six away from the closest base, which is precisely the movement of anti air, so if he didn't buy the mech (and you couldn't have known he did that because of fog) instead bought an anti air you would have lost the battle copter turn 1, which is made worse when you realize there's another infantry you could have attacked that is not in range of the base.
While this didn't happen this time it was still a huge risk for no reason
36:05 you might not be aware of this because this is an awbw only feature and I'm pretty sure even in dual strike you only get 10% attack with a super power but here even a co power gives you plus 10% attack and defense which means you actually have 30% attack.

he knows that it's been spotted and while mangs probably didn't think that buttercup's infantry moving to the left mountain made him think to apply pressure both sides (building a recon on the left side base), he thought that he needed to be aggressive with the battle copter _now_ . The turn before, he said that he has one free turn of using the battle copter unimpeded. He used this opportunity to make a push as Adder is kind of an early-mid game CO. If he lost that battle copter, and buttercup took that comm tower and made a push, that would call for a mech spam on mangs's end. Imo that gamble would've been salvageable
@@fordknievel2607 the point is it was a gamble for no reason. Mangs knew the oponnent knew he had a battle copter. It would have been completely reasonable for the opponent to build a battle copter in the base closest to the airport. He literally attacked the Infantry that was in range of the base instead of the one that wasn't, and only got away with it because the opponent decided to build a mech for some reason

I don't know why I watch this, I don't play advance wars, the only time I played it was on a rom on the DS with cheats when I was very young and couldn't speak English. I don't have nostalgia for this game and I normally don't play this type of game. But for some reason you are so good at explaining the mechanics and making entertaining videos that I've spend about 15 hours the last few days watching advance wars videos. You broke me and I think I like it, have my sub.
