You don't become the All Black No10 by being average.
    He's a freak.
You have to watch his matches to truly appreciate how gifted he is.
It's not just his freakish acceleration, it's his vision, intelligence and defense.

why he's special is that not only is he rapid, he's a proper baller that does the simple things well as a playmaker. Even in his worst games he's a solid 7/10. As a playmaker like he is, he always has the run/pass/kick decision to make, his passing is just as good as everyone else in the world, he running is better than anyone in the world in his position and up there with any other position, and his kicking is bang average, but the style of his teams isn't to kick, its run or pass so that's why he excels. He's a genuine triple threat which makes him so much harder to defend.

There are a number of players that are quick, but they usually play on the wing or at fullback. They are great finishers, but not always great playmakers (positions that Barrett has played on occasion).
What makes Barrett so imposing on the fact that he also has the skill set to play 10 (fly half). While there are great 10s that can defend, distribute, kick and be a creative playmaker for their backs, none have the pace that Barret has; so he brings another attacking dimension to the position.

Hi Rob, Barrett is special. 2x world player of the year. Unfortunately TH-cam videos won’t do him justice as the league and main international competition he plays in are heavily copyright striked when people make compilations so they have to use footage from other games. Just when we thought DC laid out the fly half position blueprint, in comes this young gun, more aggressive and even more present at the line.. i tell ya, this dude is, i feel.. touch wood, will fill Dans shoes and has done so quite easily so far.. @@RobReacts1 Ive been watching 😉 - But typically, the Number 10 (Fly Half) is like the Quarter Back in NFL terms, playmaker (also the Goal Kicker). Traditionally, they're good at kicking the ball down the field to gain field possession and occasionally being a shot caller in the back line -due to the nuisances of his role, the Number 10 is not as endangered to getting slammed by the defense (as the other positions) unless its during "those" crucial plays. It may be just my observation, or some may argue that what I'm saying about Barret could be applied to other players, but the caliber and work he is outputting is phenomenal, since debut even.

As an Aussie I shouldn't like Beauden Barrett but he is something special. He's two times World Rugby Player of the year (2016-17) and one of only three players to win it multiple times (Dan Carter 3 times, Richie McCaw - 3 times. Both legends). Yes he's rapid but his ball handling skills and reading of the game are what set him apart. If you have a look at many of those plays where he might start a movement and it goes through a few sets of hands and he always finds the right support line. Re-watch the play starting at 1:48 NZ vs France and take note of where he is when he spreads the ball wide then the amount of ground he makes up to take the last pass and score. His ability to know where the ball is going to be and be there is uncanny. His brothers Jordy and Scott Barrett aren't bad either, both play for the All Blacks and Jordy this season is playing out of his skin in Super Rugby. I'm glad you're getting into Rugby, it's the greatest game there is.

I really enjoyed this honest reaction and I have to say that as a Barrett fan I totally agreed with you. At first sight there seems to be nothing special about him but that's primarily because the guy who made the highlights compiled a boring list of tries where Beauden only concludes the action using his speed. Beauden is much more than that, and his freakish skills are better highlighted by this video for instance: th-cam.com/video/80wMFh0tJ0M/w-d-xo.html
The highlights that you chose sadly only focus on the tries he finishes which don't display the way he reads the game and how he distributes the ball around him because that's his core role as a number 10. He is known for his incredible pace but when he plays heads-up rugby he cuts through his opponents by being so livewire, unpredictable and his smart plays create opportunities out of thin air.

You have reacted to a load of backs, and fair enough they are more flash, but forwards are who win the match for you, and there are no forwards in world rugby more fun to watch than Hamish Watson. He is probably the most in-form openside flanker (number 7) in the world right now.
This video is almost 4 years old and he has only improved since (unfortunately there are no newer videos that are better). I would love to see your reaction to him.

IV added to the watch list. So what is the role of the flanker?!

    • @magnuspeacock5857
      @magnuspeacock5857 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@RobReacts1 the openside flanker's roll in defence is as the widest out forward, meaning he has to cover the inside shoulder of the fly half (10) who is usually the teams weakest tackler. This means that they need to be exceptional tacklers since a lot of attacking moves target the inside of the fly half. Opensides often have the most tackles in a game. In the ruck flankers are expected to be able to steal the ball (called "jackaling") or slow the ball down so that the defense can set.
In attack they are responsible for getting go forward and front-foot ball (it is far harder to organise the defense if you are going backwards, and almost impossible to attack well if you're retreating) they basically need to smash into people for 80 minutes.
The last time Hamish Watson missed a tackle in a six nations match was in 2019. Watson is really good at working out when a ball can be stolen and getting into the ruck quickly to steal it (he did this perfectly in the final play of the England-Scotland match this year where he stole the ball so smoothly that most of the players didn't realise he had done it until after he kicked the ball out to win the match).
In attack he somehow manages to consistently make ground despite being very small for a forward. He has a way of bouncing off tackles like he's made of rubber. In the 2019 match against Wales he played only 20 minutes (due to only just coming back from an injury) and beat more men than any other Scottish player in any of the matches that year.
Watson doesn't score many tries, but he is the reason that Scotland and Edinburgh are able to do pretty much anything well. His lack of game time for Edinburgh (due to a mix of the extended international season and injury) this year is the main reason imo that the club did so poorly this year.
Flankers are also expected to cheat without getting spotted. Peter O'Mahony's entire career is cheating without getting spotted.
