Why isn't he fighting
No one has a problem waiting for Jones to heal. We have a BIG problem with him redefining the role of an interim champion and unilaterally deciding to relegate the interim champ to "just another contender" when it has ALWAYS been the case that the champion MUST fight the interim.
The real question is why did UFC give him the "title" of interim champ? It should have just been another fight.
Imo it was UFC's way of forcing Jon to fight some up and comer.
@@slymcfly123 it was to save a big card at madison square garden, which is a heavy investment for the ufc to hold events there, if it didnt deliver they take a huge loss. Jones got injured so the ufc had to make a decision last minute to make sure it was a successful event. Tom was only coming off one win before that match up was made, definitely not a deserving interim title, it was gifted, he benefited from Jones being injured its not like he fought his way to the top to get the title.

As to why he wouldn’t defend it, the point of an interim title is that you then unify the belts once the actual champion returns but like I said he is going to defend it because Jones is ducking so hard.

Its an Ultimate Fight Promotion, not the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
They'll let certain fighters use steroids, and draw eyes and attention away from obvious users like adesanya growing a boob,usmans gyno and acne, just to name a couple, or streight up allowing jon to use.(odley they tend to look alike.) While working in tandem with USADA to activley try and pop guys who show zero signs of usage, like massivley testing guys like mick parkin and jiri crazy amounts of times and hardley testing guys showing obvious signs.
They feed certain up and comers that dont exactly fit their promotional critearia to the lions to try damage derail and slow their come up, while giving other certain types far easier roads.
They make negotiations extreamly difficult for certain fighters and help with others.
Nothing more than an Ultimate fighting Promotion.

Well, Jon needs to get his facts straight... Tom is 30, not 28. And he is allegedly booked to fight at UFC Manchester, defending the Interrim belt.

Nope the UFC won't strip Tom. Tom - for all intents and purposes - has the real belt. Jon is planning to fight Stipe, who at this point is barely a contender then retire. His defence is literally meaningless and it's unfair to Tom to be in this position. Literally no one in the MMA community thinks this is a reasonable way to do business. Tom is the Champion, Jones is just waiting to have his fairytale ending to his career with a win over a 41 year old Stipe who doesn't even deserve a title shot and hasn't won in 4 (or 5 by time the fight happens) years. Tbh I'm sick of the fighters being blamed here. The UFC could tell Jon he has to fight Tom when healthy or he'll be stripped. That would solve the issue instantly. It's the UFC that's forcing this to be a title fight when Stipe has no right to a title fight over an interim champion. Thats it. It's not up to Jon to give the belt back, it's not up to Tom to defend the interim belt while the champion fights someone else and it's not up to Stipe to be gracious and let Tom fight Jon. The UFC holds the power and they've made this situation be as shit as it is.

Its speaking more towards just asking him to think back to when he was coming up, how thankful he was to have an opportunity to fight for the belt. He threw the question aspinall or alex. Shouldnt they do some maintenence in thier own division before worrying about other divisions.

The problem with that statement is an interim belt can’t be defended considering it’s not a real title. Tom could face another opponent and if they beat him they could take Tom’s place which is next in line to fight for the title. There’s only one champion per weight class. Champions never say “I need to unify my belt with that interim title” lol.

If Tom was number 1 contender he'd be fighting JJ next, Tom is number 1+, why in the hell would he climb back down the ladder, if the ufc as a body won't honor the interim in such a way then it should stop selling the fans and fighters on our understanding of the progression and explain the correct way to the top, the new people trying to find a way to the top are more than fighters(as with most in this profession) , they are men and women sacrificing a lot to build this life, why should a champion be allowed to gate keep the top from people who most likely will stand a high chance of beating them.

The problem with Jon's rebuttal is that the interim belt is meant to be unified, not defended.
Stipe is smart to elevate a fight with Jon over the title. Even a win against Jon without a title would mean exponentially more than if Stipe were to reclaim undisputed gold against Tom or someone else.

Stipe is never even talked about, and has been out of the mainstream for a long time. He’s 42 years old, and beating him won’t do a thing for Jon Jones anymore. Stipe is considered the greatest heavyweight of all time, but beating him at 42 won’t solidify Jon in some minds. Maybe the fight will interest me more as the date approaches, but as of now, it seems to have been dragged out too long.
