  • A pilot and sensor operator from the 432nd Wing/432nd Air Expeditionary Wing simulate an MQ-9 flight for training purposes. Advanced Cockpit Ground Control Station (GCS) is designed for use with Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) systems such as the Predator and Predator B/MQ-9 Reaper and offers significantly improved situational awareness and reduced pilot workload. Innovations include intuitive interfaces that are designed to make potentially hazardous situations easier to identify and to improve the decision-making process generally.

Gotta wonder what’s the point of actual manned jets at this point, just do the same thing with them and save lives plus you can take far more risk.

It would be a huge undertaking to replace the current manned aircraft that are in service. This is a nice technology for a small lightweight recon mission, but for heavy air mobility planes, the cost of not paying a few extra crew members wouldn’t make up for the loss of the fleet.

Drones are slow and soft targets and easy prey for even older generation manned fighters. Until AI gets to the insane level that it could even fully do air-to-air, manned aircraft aren’t going to go anywhere anytime soon.

I was AF SATCOM (2E171, later 3D173).. You are always going to have some latency as you are limited by the speed of light. I didn’t work any of the network that was directly involved with UAV’s, but did work voice, data (NIPR/SIPR), etc, however do believe they go through a hub in Germany, so there is going to be latency from the hop from US to Europe and then into the theater. I worked a hub site in Saudi at PSAB where we had a CAOC (Combined Air Operations Center) and we had spokes going all over (Germany, Kuwait, Turkey, Diego Garcia, etc). 3D1x3 is a good technical AFSC also, if that’s what you are after. I got out on the path to getting a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering with an associate in Electronics from the CCAF. I’ve always been a computer and radio geek though as also have GROL, amateur (ham), commercial, GMRS, licenses, and built antennas, setup repeaters, etc, even before going into the military..

      A year late but...
They have a Launch and Recovery pilot stationed overseas that will take over and land the drone.
The RPAs that are in the US dont land or take off with the drones. They take control after.

It takes all that technology to kill non-combatants from halfway around the world. As always, we’re sorry about it, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those we killed if a family is still alive. Our hellfire missiles don’t usually leave anyone left.

You think this is advanced? Watch OperatorDrewski play DCS World. That shit is advanced. If the military adapted a similar style men would virtually be inside the plane. A live 360° camera and some Upgraded Military Grade VR headsets, come on. Cant beat it, and as a fail safe if the camera stopped functioning, they still have this proven reliable setup. My tax dollars need to be spent on this type of cooler shit Uncle Sam.
