Before nobody knew about drones. But since drones became popular amongst the civilian population and I’m talking about this little helicopter looking machines to record you everyday life. Now everytime I go to an Airshow RPA pilots ger a lot of attention when before nobody even knew about them. The military always knows what the future is all about. That’s why they deserve all my respect to those who come up with this kind of ideas

Recent rpa select here, assuming by talking about scholarships you are a high school grad or close to it. You can enlist and become a Drone Pilot, but enlisted only fly surveillance drones. Or you can do what I did, and attend either college or the Air Force Academy, earn your bachelor's, then apply for Officer Training School, and become an officer and fly weaponized drones. As far as as scholarships, the way I understand it the AF doesn't just hand them out for any university, you have to attend a certain university that has an Air Force ROTC program. But definitely contact your nearest recruiter!

That's completely incorrect, there are a lot of scholarships that you can earn. There's also flight scholarship, jobs specific scholarship like engineering or weather, and more

asher, While you are still too young to enlist into the Air Force, it is never too early to start preparing. There are a few things you can do now to prepare for once you reach the required age. First study hard and graduate from high school. Get the best grades you can in all subjects especially English, Math and Science. This will help you improve your score on the ASVAB test which is required for enlistment. Say no to drugs and get an early start on physical conditioning are important steps in the right direction. And stay out of trouble. Law violations can delay and in some cases will disqualify you from joining the Air Force and taking advantage of the opportunities available. Starting early and being prepared are your best shot. Stay in contact with your Guidance Counselor and maybe we will see you in a few years.
You may research more information about the Air Force on our site of www.airforce.com to include benefits like education, careers, training, lifestyle, requirements, etc.
There is also the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) portion that answers a lot of the most common questions asked: www.airforce.com/frequently-asked-questions/
You may also download the Aim High App: www.airforce.com/aim-high-app
If qualified you can join at age 17 with parental consent during your junior or senior year in high school as part of The Air Force Softbook Program and enter the Delayed Entry Program (DEP), but you will not go to Basic Military Training (BMT) until AFTER you graduate high school.

General requirements to apply for pilot positions:
      US citizen
Applicants who are under the age of 33 and/or have less than 8 years of total federal commissioned service (TFCS) may apply in order to complete medical flight screening (MFS).
4 year college degree with at least a 2.5 GPA
Must be able to complete a FC1, 1A, III physical and complete the board process before entering Basic Officers
Height specifications vary by aircraft and most applicants can successfully pursue a career in aviation with the US Air Force. Applicants who are significantly taller or shorter than average may require special screening to ensure they can safely perform operational duties. Applicants of all heights are encouraged to apply.
      Vision will be evaluated.
      Color vision is required.
      Path to a Pilot seat:
Once you are qualified to join the Air Force as a Commissioned Officer you will take this path to get your wings.
1.) Complete Officer Training (AF Academy, AF ROTC, OTS)
2.) Enter Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT) and begin your flight training. (@ 1 year)
3.) Nearing completion of UPT you will be assigned an Aircraft. It's called getting your Seat Assignment. This is determined by these factors: Class Ranking, training performance reports, instructor recommendations, your aircraft preferences, and our needs.
4.) Upon completion of UPT and your Seat assignment, you continue your flight Training for the specific aircraft you were assigned. (6 months to one year)
5.) Nearing completion of your Advanced Flight Training, you will be given a Squadron, and location assignment. Your location preferences are considered.
6.) The commitment for an Air Force Pilot is 10 years of Active Duty Service after completion of Pilot training.

From what people currently in the USAF I've talked to are saying, if your AFOQT scores are good & you have solid recommendations, you could probably get in with most anything above minimum.

There are many possible paths you can take in pursuit of earning your wings. You could choose to get your degree on your own and apply for your commission following graduation. Or, you could choose to come on to active duty and let the Air Force pay up to 100% of your college tuition (effective 1 Oct 2002). You could gain valuable Air Force experience while getting your degree. Once you have obtained your degree, you may apply for your commission to be selected to become a pilot. - Pam

You can do OTS, and probably commission before hitting 30. 30 is actually the cutoff, and even then exceptions can be made if you are an outstanding applicant, which it sounds like you might be given that academic background

Sensor Operator falls under the Enlisted Program and members would take the ASVAB.

Neal Schroer I am an Enlisted Aircrew member of the Air Force. I understand the concept of uniforms. Flight suits are designed with specific functions in mind. Functions that a Drone "Pilot", who sits in a chair, in a building, does not perform. It's pointless.

    • @cycologist7069
      @cycologist7069 6 ปีที่แล้ว

GrammarPolice Right now in the Navy the current shipboard uniform is blue cammies. And they are being fazed out and getting replaced by green cammies. First off cammies onboard a ship makes no sense to begin with and even less sense that they are being replaced by green. Also many people in the airdale (Navy aviation) community also wore flight suits even if their job was sitting in an office. There's an old saying in the Navy that goes "the right way, the wrong way, and the Navy way". I'm sure that very same saying goes on in the Air Force also. The point being, sometimes it is simply best to not wonder why.

There is not a required degree to be a pilot. General requirements to be a pilot:
      US citizen
Applicants who are under the age of 33 and/or have less than 8 years of total federal commissioned service (TFCS) may apply in order to complete medical flight screening (MFS).
4 year college degree with at least a 2.5 GPA
Height specifications vary by aircraft and most applicants can successfully pursue a career in aviation with the US Air Force. Applicants who are significantly taller or shorter than average may require special screening to ensure they can safely perform operational duties. Applicants of all heights are encouraged to apply.
      Vision will be evaluated.
      Color vision is required
The maximum allowable age for those interested in applying as a Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) pilot is prior to 40 years of age.
