    Been here before: my wife's new 2001 Corolla had a built-in design flaw - the cylinder seals were too wide and leaked oil into the cylinders. Dealers used to blame owners for misusing their cars when in fact, it was all Toyotas fault.
    Led to the largest single lawsuit fine in USA history! Over $12 BILLION US dollars.
    Because Toyota KNEW it was a design fault and LIED about it.

    • @TheDustyShed
      @TheDustyShed 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The first thing to remember is these companies exist to make money. The cars are just a part of that.
      Fuel economy and emissions regulations are forcing companies to build more complex vehicles. Meeting these complexities at a price that consumers will pay makes it difficult for quality control to prevail. Once a defect is discovered they must engineer a solution into the process which adds complexity and cost.

    What's not to love about ICE vehicles? Well, except for transmission problems, cooling system problems, injector problems, compression imbalances, high pressure / speed valves, oh and the high pressure/high heat gaskets, filters for all the needed fluids, regular maintenance being required for all these system, the exorbitant fuel prices, and electrical system faults.... BESIDES all these, what's not to love? That's nothing, in almost every BMW diesel from 2006 to 2015, the timing chain, which is meant to last the lifetime of the vehicle, broke, causing catastrophic and dangerous engine failure. My engine was ruined by this at 70,000 miles (many failed way before this even with BMW service history) and BMW refused to pay anything toward repair (approx. £3000) because I did not have it serviced by BMW (not a legal requirement in the EU as long as you can show you used approved parts, which I had). That's when I swore I'd never entertain buying a BMW again, and, unless you are a masochist, I'd suggest you avoid BMW like the plague.

    $6,000 sounds a bit low. I have a Hyundai Genesis 5.0 that had a similar problem. Hyundai was sued and was force to recall some of its vehicles but not my model. After complaining and being ignored by the dealership about grinding noises at startup, while under warrantee, 3 months after the warrantee expired, the engine seized (40,000 miles). After some argument, Hyundai agreed to cover 90% of the engine replacement cost. Complete engines were no longer available, so the dealership had to build one. The replacement cost $35,000 so I paid $3,500, and it's still misfiring.

    From my research any only direct injected motor will have failure issues from carbon build up on the backs of the valves. My 2016 Ford Edge 2.0 which is direct injected had this issue and blew the motor. It cost me $8000 for this defect that is all over the internet and Ford nor any government agency is doing anything about it. Of course the Ford dealership tried to blame me saying I had the wrong oil and doing oil changes at the wrong intervals, which I wasn't and the oil was Royal Purple which is better than their crap dealerships use. When I laughed in the guy's face when he said I was doing it wrong, I showed him the owners manual that stated the oil change times. He tried to tell me Ford had the wrong information in their manual. I then asked him "oh really, then why is that was is also stated online?". This June was Las Vegas' hottest on record. In July, things got even worse: the city experienced a record seven days at 115F or higher and set a new all-time high of 120F. The heat is just a signal of what’s to come. Temperatures in Las Vegas are rising faster than almost anywhere else in the US. As temperatures climb, shadeless streets are hot enough to cause second-degree burns in seconds. Three women said they struggled to cool down at the pool because the warm water offered little relief and the surrounding pavement burned their feet. There is the woman whose leg was amputated after she got third-degree burns from passing out on the scalding hot sidewalk. She now uses a wheelchair. Just last week aid workers rushed to revive another woman, age 81, who passed out in an encampment. They found her surrounded by her pet dogs, who had all died in the heat. July is typically when local health officials report the highest number of heat-related deaths. Between 2022 and 2023 there was an 80% increase in fatalities, with the official number around 300, nearly double those counted in 2020. Oil and gas executives contacted for comment say Las Vegas is a Democrat city and they don't go there.

    They did not, only 1% of the cars are affected due to Toyota, but they cover 2 years. Don't talk nonsense.
    Toyota is a all about reliability andcthe did the right thing, it will cost Toyota, Usd 3,5 billion.....not 700mln.

    Toyota clearly has changed. They are just leaning on their historical reputation to take advantage of consumers. The myth of Toyota reliability and quality is further perpetuated by people who buy Toyota also tend to WANT their cars last longer, thus take better care of their cars and using them more carefully, thus perpetuating the myth.

    Electric Viking is letting his anti- ICE ideology get out of control here. 100,000vehicles isn't so many and Toyota may genuinely not know how of them are seriously affected. Im sure Electric V. used to be more balanced than this, but maybe he feels under pressure from the collapse of EV sales in many countries

      If you read the report, you'd understand better. Toyota lied...that's the problem. They also recently got caught lying about their safety ratings. Now buyers are seeing how much Toyota really lies and misleads its buyers...so yes, all information about potential serious injury needs to be called out.
