What's your favorite way to eat cabbage? 🥰
In my Lazy Cabbage Roll casserole which is a dump and bake and everything goes in raw including the ground meat. It comes out of the oven 90 minutes later (or so) and it is one of the best things you ever tasted. - and now .. BEG's Easy and Delicious Laziest Ever Cabbage Rolls. I modified this from a recipe I found online. First time I made it I thought how can it work with raw ground meat but it works like a charm!!
Preheat your oven to 350. Spray your small roasting pan with non-stick spray.
1 lb ground whatever - beef, pork, turkey you name it. It will work and don’t brown it first.
1 241 gram package Coleslaw Mix
1/3 (ish) 284 gram package of Matchstix Carrots - I add a couple of handfuls straight out of the bag
½ cup (ish) white rice - if you add more - add more liquid. I don't but I don't have to stretch this out.
1 small onion, chopped. I like onion so small is a relative term
Dump this all in a small roasting pan. One that has a lid.
1 14 oz can Tomato Sauce
1 1/2 cups water (again ish)
Dried garlic
2 T Beef Bullion - I add this as it ups the flavour
2-3 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Mix this all in a large measuring cup. One with a spout. Pour over the cabbage mixture and carefully stir it around. I say carefully because this barely fits in my roasting pan and if I am not careful it ends up everywhere. If your roaster has a bit more room you’ll be okay.
Add 1 or 2 tsp Clubhouse Salad Herb Seasoning (my secret ingredient)
Stir again.
Add 2 bay leaves (if they are big and break them in half) or 3 bay leaves (if they are small)
Push them down into the mixture at different spots
Put the lid on the roaster.
Bake at 350 for 90 minutes to 2 hours. Stirring every 30 minutes or so.
I don’t like cabbage at all.
Fermented is my favorite but also love boiled dinner ( sausage, potatoes, onions and cabbage )
Coleslaw! And fried cabbage with bacon.
With corn beef, or cabbage steaks…I’ll take it any way I can!
This advice is real. People on youtube are fake and giving bad/ expensive ideas, TOO OFTEN! Lisa will not bullshit you!
You're the only budget cooker who still uses a good amount of veggies. Love it
Congrats on making the Yahoo Finance list of the nine best “Frugal” TH-camrs! Love ya! And yes, I love cabbage too. I like thick slices, seasoned then roasted in the oven.
How exciting! You definitely deserve the recognition!
I have watched you for a long time and love everything you do ! I am a Southerner, 83 years old, and I appreciate your shopping and cooking skills. I raised 5 children, and all are wonderful Cooks. I only have one store, and it's very high and never mark anything down, you are so blessed to have a variety of stores to choose from! God Bless you, Lisa.
I make an Irish/Welsh dish called Colcanon. Cabbage, potatoes and onions all mashed together and baked with butter
Love love love colcanon!
My mom use to make that but she called it bubble and squeak 😂😂
@@evedallas2271 I come from a Welsh background
@@cindyheinrich2054 🤣my mom was English. She came from Whittlesey, just outside London. It was my favorite thing for breakfast with sausages and eggs. Second favorite (or tied) was Yorkshire pudding or aka Toad in the hole❤️
@@evedallas2271 I love, love yorkshire pudding, of course in a pan of roast beef drippings !!
I LOVE cabbage!!! I separate the leaves and boil them sooft but still holding shape and use them in place of lasagna nooles. so good.
That sounds yummy!
@@Kimberley_Black_White_TV It's so good. try it!!!
That’s a brilliant idea 👍
Yum! That would be super yummy. I have done that with zucchini and I bet cabbage would be amazing too.
OMG that's a great idea! Thank you.
I also love how long cabbage lasts in the fridge!
Yes! I have 2 in the fridge right now and my mom brought home a 3rd today that was gifted to her at work, so it’s a good thing they keep so well lol 😂
I love fried cabbage with onions and smoked sausage all fried together in the skillet.
I love that Andrew helps you in the kitchen. He seems like a well respected dude who treats the women in his life with respect!❤
He’s definitely a keeper! 💙💙💙
I think this is the first video where we almost got a glimpse of Andrew.
The curiosity about this man who is always just off camera reminds me of those old episodes of Frasier, when the sister in law was never seen but was mentioned all the time 😂
Or like Wollowitz’s mom on The Big Bang Theory 😂
@@bern84he's been on camera before
@@lululemkowski5468 🙈 ah I must have missed him 😋
Andrew's the BEST. He's a lineman you know.
I grew up eating cabbage rolls they're so good. But.... Bless my sweet momma's heart. She wouldn't pre cook the rice and there were times it was a bit crunchy 😂. But we ate them and were grateful. She tried 🤣
The cabbage steaks are delicious topped with Stovetop!
We grew up with beef and cabbage soup. It is very economical and so good. On my grandma's hand written recipe it says serve with fried corn bread, pepper sauce and sweet tea. 😂And that's exactly how we do it
There is NO bad way to eat cabbage !! It’s a wonderful meal 🥰
I am so glad you made this video. I was just given 3 heads of cabbage and need new recipes. ❤
I love cabbage. In my brokest of days, I made a cabbage and potato soup every week. Diced cabbage, a couple white potatoes, one onion, one bunch of parsley, two veggie bouillon cubes, and salt and pepper. Either in a crockpot all day or simmered in a pot till everything was tender. Very simple but very tasty. Any bouillon, broth, or stock would work.
Yum! I would like to eat at your house!😋
I boil my cabbage head into water. My friend's sister who works as a chief in a nursing home, freezes her heads. I just made a huge pan of rolled cabbage last week. I used diced tomatoes, tomato sauce and part of a jar of spaghetti sauce. then added spices and stirred and used that for my sauce. I also use rice in my filling. I used hamburger, sausage and lamb.
I
My favorite cabbage recipe, hands-down, is haluski. I could eat my way through a truckload of it. Great video as usual! Love how easy you make it seem to make pierogis from scratch! I have to recommend the Tupperware microwave pressure cooker to you, if you’re ever cooking for a crowd and need your appliances available - you could do your potatoes to mash in it and keep your instant pot free. Also I have to encourage cutting out the core of the cabbage, trimming it up and snacking on it with salt! I think you’ll really like it.😊
My mother used to make haluski. I had forgotten all about it. Now that you reminded me, I think my husband would love it.
@@tynaedwards8452 Come back and let me know if he likes it! ☺️
I make a soup with it, cabbage, canned tomatoes , onions, carrots, celery, turnips , parsnips, garlic, chicken or vegetables bullion. My mom used to make this, it was a “diet, cleansing soup back in the very early 80s, I add some grated parm, abd a splash of tobacco…sooo simple yet, so yummy and very inexpensive. I think I’m gonna hv to make it tomorrow, be great with kale, diced potato , white beans or kidney beans,I think ham or turkey would also taste great in it. ❤
Cabbage is a wonderful vegetable and good for you. i love it no matter how it is fixed.
I also love 5o use cabbage as salad greens in the winter when lettuces are so expensive! I use them just like lettuce and also use them on tacos replacing the lettuce with cabbage!
My grandfather used to make the best cabbage rolls so I would have to say that's my favorite way to eat cabbage.
My mom used to make cabbage rolls. We would eat smoked ham hocks and cabbage.Momma would also make potatoes with it.For me , a head of cabbage is too much.If I make it, I will get the smallest one I can find.I will cook it with Opa,s Sausage, from New Braunfels or another brand.HEB Grocery stores sell Mrs.T,s Pirogi which are frozen, they're good. Now Lisa makes me want to go buy some sausage, pirogis and cabbage. By the way I love her cat.Her fur baby looks like my late son Joe.
Doing the thick cabbage slices like that in a sheet pan with some water, underneath a whole chicken roasting in the oven makes them absolutely delish (from soaking up the chicken liquids). Even if the head of cabbage is old and dehydrated aka. forgotten cabbage lol - it still turns out amazing.
I love cabbage! One of my favorite ways is dicing the cabbage into a large dice toss with whole grainy mustard, caraway seeds, olive oil, salt and pepper. I put it under the broiler when it starts to brown I give it a toss and back under the broiler until it’s to your liking.
Egg roll in a bowl❤
Lisa, for cabbage rolls (meatballs, etc) I always fry a tsp of the filling to check for seasoning. I'm always, always under-seasoned!
That's a great idea !!
My mom would always lay a base layer of flat cabbage on the cooking pan to prevent any potential scorching. I would gobble those leaves up too when it came to eat.
I love bacon or kielbasa with my cabbage too😊
Cabbage and corned beef is popular in Trinidad where I am from , an ode to our Irish brothers and sisters 😊 I am literally eating it right now
Thanks!
Great vlog!
We,actually, don't use cabbage all that often but when I do I use it for soup,a meatball dish that I make. And that's,literally, all I can think of right now.
These are awesome recipes!
Cabbage has saved my life so many times.
Egg rolls!!! I love my Lisa Dawn!!!
Hi Lisa! SO glad to see you right back again this week, following the Easter dinner video last week. 🙂. If we could get them weekly like this all of the time, that would be wonderful. I know everyone would be JUST THRILLED! 😃.
I agree, that we don't use cabbage often enough.
As always, all of the meals that you made today look great.
But!! I have to say that the corned beef & cabbage meal looks ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. 🍲🍽️. I will have to try making this.
I've never made cabbage rolls either, but you made it look so good and simple, I might actually have to try those out as well.
Thank-You for ALL of the easy and delicious food videos that you make.
Sending love from KimInOhio. 💕💕.
I always add a dollop of sour cream. And a side of applesauce.
Great ideas for cabbage, thank you 😊
You consistently have the best food videos on YT. Thank you.
Omg. Freezing the cabbage - mind blown. I’m going to try that this week.
My favorite cabbage recipe is chopped cabbage and potatoes on a baking sheet, add chopped polish sausage and bake. The sausage drips the fat onto the cabbage and makes a great sheet pan meal. You can add vinegar if you like that combo.
Looks great. You are such an amazing and practical cook. Love watching your videos.
My hubby is part Polish. He would love all these recipes! Thanks for the cooking inspiration. 😃
Bacon Grease and cabbage=match made in heaven! Yum!
I adore cabbage and I do a deconstructed version of stuffed cabbage, instead of rolling them, I layer the cabbage, meat, rice and sauce like lasagna layers. I have even used tortillas on top and bottom so it turns into a kind of stuffed cabbage "pie" very yummy. I also use new baby cabbages in tuna wraps (in stead of lettuce and wrap the tuna salad with it) I have also done a finger food idea with cabbage, sliced ham, and pickles that are the smaller ones that you wrap with ham and the cabbage and add cheese and salsa on top.
Are you originally from the Pittsburgh area? These dishes are very popular in the area. The recipes go back generations.
Cabbage is one of my favorite veggies . You've made one of my favorites , cabbage rolls . Your doing great with presentation . You're very knowledgeable .
I love cabbage!!
My favorite way to eat cabbage is when I make Corned Beef and Cabbage, but most often I eat it in those chopped salad kits. Thank you for all the other ideas to use cabbage. Great video!!! Love from Texas ❤
Great video. I love all things cabbage so I'm super inspired.
Thank you for the excellent ideas. I love cabbage and don't use it nearly enough. It is definitely budget friendly and delicious. Maybe next time try a deconstructed egg roll. Yummy 😋
My favorite way to eat cabbage is chopped and cooked with diced onion, garlic, butter and when it’s done add sugar and vinegar, maybe a tablespoon or so of each (or to taste) and cooked wide noodles! I can make a meal out of it. 😋 But I just made egg roll in a bowl with leftover pork loin. It was really good! Helps when you like cabbage though.
That Andrew sure is a lucky guy, knowing he will always get a good meal!
Love cabbage. Usually stir fried or in pressure cooker with collard greens
Our family fights over the cabbage core. Uncooked with salt. Loved this video.
Ha!
I eat it raw!
I’ve got a kielbasa in my freezer and a can of kraut in the pantry. Gonna make it this weekend 🤩
I'm also a cabbage lover. My favorite way to make it is to fry up slices of bacon and before they're completely done, toss in sliced cabbage, put the lid on, turn the heat down low and let it cook slowly... So good!
I do that too. Awhile back I saw a recipe on hillbilly kitchen for this and have done it ever since.
I sauté onions and finely diced carrots with evoo, course salt, cracked black pepper and red pepper flakes and when that is ready I add in thinly sliced cabbage and some rice wine vinegar and let it cook...the result is so delicious!
Ms. Lisa! Personally, I’d LOVE to see you do an episode for “Use It Up . . . ) sounds like fun!
My partner somehow is a good cook with some things but no real exposure to other things. He didn’t even know if he liked cabbage outside of sauerkraut until I made corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick’s Day, and until then he thought he hated corned beef.
Now he’s had raw fresh cabbage shredded on top of nachos instead of lettuce because I like it and he decided he likes cabbage.
Oh and funny extra note: he used to work at a plastic bag factory and we were talking about grocery store chains we didn’t realize were in PA/closer to us and he goes “I wondered where a Food Lion was, I’d never seen any and we made bags for them. There was another one that started with an H and was two words. I can’t remember the name but I know it wasn’t Hellen Keller” 😂😂😂
It was Harris Teeter lol
I'm so glad you posted this video! I still have two heads of cabbage I got on sale for 17 cents per pound staring at me every time I open the fridge. Can't wait to try some of your ideas.
Thank you for your videos. You are such a good cook and nice person. I love your ideas. It helps me a lot.
I love al things cabbage. Fried with bacon grease and bacon or add smoked sausage. Stuffed cabbage rolls. Slaw. Irish potatoes and cabbage. ALL of it. Your cabbage and perogies with the sausage looks fabulous. V-8 Juice or regular spicy tomato juice is fabulous over cabbage rolls
I love cabbage ❤❤
Cabbage is delicious!
So glad someone did cabbage for a change😊
I like cabbage just about anyway! Right now I have a gallon of it fermenting into sauerkraut. Great video!
I love diced cabbage and fresh squeezed lime is great on shrimp and chicken tacos. Cook the chicken and shrimp spicy (franks reds hot, siracha, hot sauce). I also make a slaw with cabbage, diced tomato, bell pepper and onion with a sweet mix (mayo, sugar and vinegar). Of course sautéed or boiled cabbage.
Hey from Pineville North Carolina, right outside of Charlotte. It's good to see another Tar heel on TH-cam.
I love coleslaw and sauerkraut. I knew someone who made their pierogi filling with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. I loved it and never found them pre made like that. Might have to try making them myself. I love your videos and look forward to them. Thanks so much!
Premade sauerkraut filled piroschki are available in the frozen section of my supermarket here in Germany. But they are an imported Polish product, I believe. ( I am so greateful for the European Common Market every day.)
First of all. All the stuff you made looked delicious! 2nd of all, I love cabbage. 3rd of all...😂 idk. But, anyways I'm just glad to see a new video from u. Along time ago/8 years ago we took cabbages and cut them in 4 quarters and wrapped them with bacon and then tinfoil and let them cook on the grill. They were delicious!
Yesssssss girl!! I love cabbage too!! Soo underrated. Thanks for the cabbage recipes!!
I had an overload of cabbage in my house so yesterday for dinner we had an Asian salad. 10 cups Shredded cabbage and sliced green onions. Then you crush up a couple packs of dry ramen noodles into small bits before opening the package( don’t add the flavoring packet) and toast them in a pan with a little butter, sesame seeds, and half cup slivered almonds. Once cooled mix it in with the cabbage, green onion, and sauce. The sauce is half cup oil, a fourth cup white vinegar, half cup sugar, and 2 tablespoons soy sauce. I mixed in some dried cranberries and it was sooo good. There are a bunch of recipes for it on Pinterest. Another thing I like with cabbage are potstickers with those premade wonton wrappers. They’re a lot of work so I’ve only made them a few times but I love them. I used to make cabbage steaks and need to do it again soon.
With all the wonderful food you cook, I bet the neighbors are jealous of the smell of your house. 😊
I just love cabbage! Your recipes all look wonderful and I cannot wait to try them!
My current favorite way to cook cabbage is in my slow cooker. I cut up bacon with my kitchen shears, right into a skillet and cook until crisp. Pour that bacon and grease into the slow cooker, then add wedges of cabbage. Add a little chicken stock, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper. Then cook on high for 3 hours. Perfect.
I make Colcannon fried patties, and have a fried egg on top…..so delicious and a great way to use up any leftover colcannon. You can add any leftover veggies into the mix too so it’s great for using up everything in the fridge and having nothing wasted 😊👍
My mom made a whole stuffed cabbage (slice the top off, hollow it out with a sharpened metal spoon, fill, put the top back on, tie w/string, and cook in a stock pot with the tomato sauce). Another great use of cabbage is to make sauerkraut, a jar at a time, and put the stalk (or a picking cuke) in the center of the jar!
So healthy, a great source of fiber and vitamin K
Just bought some cabbage, I can't wait to try these recipes!
When I lived in Russia I got to experience cabbage filled buns-SO good! I make them at home now, mincing the soft boiled cabbage with onion, garlic, salt and butter, and using it as a filling in the center of the buns. Fresh dill chopped into it is also amazing, also mushrooms!
Yes it is. Very good for a salad or in different meals.
You are amazing, so amazing I've recommended you to several people on Facebook.
I love cabbage rolls, but rarely make them, because removing the leaves is such a pain. Thank you for the tip on freezing the cabbage first! Now I'll make them more often
I grew up eating boiled dinner. It's cut up cabbage, diced ham and carrots, made into a soup. Delicious. I also like to saute up Napa cabbage and ½ can of petite diced tomatoes with some of the juice, a good amount of salt. Yummy 😋😋
Those cabbage rolls look divine!
I’m definitely going to try and make some.
And I completely agree with you that cabbage is an unsung hero!
Helen Rennie also has a TH-cam channel and she once made a pan of slowly caramelised cabbage which I tried. It was sweet and umami and so good. I ate it with a grilled cheese sandwich and it was SO NICE. Highly recommend!
Love cabbage. My favorite is fried, seasoned with bacon grease.
loved this video 😊
Thank you!!
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos! Love your content 😊
Hi Lisa Aldi usually has their roll of ground sausage for the same price and they have about 3 different ones😊
Love making stuffed cabbage
Great video, I haven't made cabbage rolls in a long time mostly because I hate
cooking the leaves first. Never thought of freezing cabbage. I use tomato soup in
mine and raw lean hamburger and parboiled rice. Thanks for sharing
I like cabbage soup or I make coleslaw. My favorite way to preserve it is to ferment it as sauerkraut. 😊So good! I’m also a fan of fried cabbage and Polska with onions. Yummy 😋
I love corned beef in the instant pot. I always boiled and even tried it roasted but that instant pot does the best job. Comes out perfect every time.
Lots of great cabbage ideas. I love it sautéed with onions and kielbasa.
I love cabbage 🥬 😋 thank you for the good ideas !
Now i want to make roasted cabbage steaks!
Cabbage is really under rated. I remember growing up my parents didn't have tons of money when I was a younger child and my mom used cabbage and potatoes quite a bit in her cooking for that reason. I also love your interactions with Andrew. It seems like you two have a really great relationship. :)
I need to make this! Thank you for your videos!
One of my fav things to do with cabbage is cut it up into small pieces and add it to macaroni salad as a healthy filler .
Hi from South Africa 🇿🇦 love your videos ❤ Lisa
🇿🇦
I’m going to try making those cabbage rolls with boerewors 😃
Thanks for sharing they all looked great?
I love steamed cabbage, turkey sausage and onions together
I do the same w new recipes, research and test! 😋 ❤ Great ideas and video. I never would have thought of the pizza cabbages 😮yum!
