Join me as I take you along to see what groceries we got during a week in September 2024, how much those groceries cost, and what I ended up cooking for my household's dinners for a full week. The birthday cake was so cute. I also cook for 3 adults and need to make meals from leftovers all the time. Made a pot roast earlier in the week, then bbq beef sandwiches, then stroganoff with leftovers. I think you’ve inspired me to use chicken with wrinkled grape tomatoes.

A tip for ripening avocado cut in half, remove pit, wrap each half in cling wrap to make water tight, heat for 2-mins in microwave..get a bowl big enough to fit both fill bowl 3/4 full with cold water, plunge both halves and submerge in cold water, turn occasionally until cool and you have a fully ripened avocado, remove from water, dry and take out of skin in 5-mins.

I am making something very similar to your tomato chicken pasta, I am baking the tomatoes and feta etc in the oven then serving with spaghetti squash, and chicken. That penguin cake was adorable!! Great job.

Tomatoes quickly fried up in olive oil with some kind of garlic and chillies (for our household) is one of my fastest and easiest pasta sauces, it cooks in the same time as the pasta takes to boil. If i have peppers i add them but it doesnt need them.

Hi there! At the 10 minute mark you mention that you have trouble measuring pasta amounts for the portions, and i had the same issue so i started seeing what i could do, and i landed on weighing the portions for dry pasta and measuring cup for rice. I use 3/4 cup of rice per portion which i have in an air tight container that i refill when necessary.
For dry pasta i use 80grams per portion. I tried at first with 100grams but it felt like it was too much, i would eat the whole plate but i felt heavy so i went to 90grams and had the same issue, with 80grams of pasta plus a side dish of protein or protein+veggies i am satisfied but not stuffed, which is great.
I pre portion one or two packs of pasta as soon as i buy my restock. I use reusable resealable bags, i have some in the shape of mason jars, they have a ziploc like top and they are washable, simple ziploc bags would also work .
The dry pasta packs here are 500grams (about half a pound) so if i portion it at 80grams each, i have 6 portions of pasta plus 20 loose grams, i usually leave them as backup for when i have a bit of a lighter side dish for the pasta, i can use those 20 grams to fill the plate a bit more.
For fresh-ish pasta like gnoccis, i tend to buy the 1kg bag (about two pounds) and it comes fresh, but can be frozen. I portion these at 100grams.
And other things like sorrentinos, capelettis or similar things that have filling, i do 120 grams, or 6 to 8 pieces depending on the size of the pasta, i do a bit more of these since they tend to be the main dish and they go with small to no side dish with them.
Since i have done this i have had no more leftover pasta (which is inedible for me or my bf) so i stopped wasting money having to throw anything away.
Also having this pre portioned and ready to dump in the boiling water makes it 10 times easier to make a dish on the fly when you're running low on prep time.

I agree on the sweet potatoes and they are better the next year if you still have some with eyes on them just take themn off they are still good they are great once they start sapping. that is when they are the sweetest.

Lisa dawn i love your videos. Goes to show that with a budget and some brain power, you can honestly make out really well eating wise, if you're willing to put the time in . I love that you still a lot of homemade cooking. It's like pasta and such things. We, as a society, get very lazy. Invite convenience food, but like I said? Yeah, does he actually use your brain? You can make different things, but it is very time consuming.
