idk why people think goths are weird...one of my childhood friends was a goth throughout highschool...and you know what? he had a better heart than most fools at that school..
One of many things I'll always love about south park is no matter or ridiculous or much of a parody their songs are, they are still catchy and they sound good. Even the protect my balls one for the anime episode was good. Then again I shouldn't be surprised since these writers and produces also made the Team America theme song which IMO coined the "Murica" meme.
This is 100% the Cure and Depeche Mode. The main guitar and bass sounds like the forest and the keyboard and drums sounds like new life by depeche mode.
***** A goth believes that deep down the world is totally fucked up. But an emo thinks that deep down, they are totally fucked up. emos are more prone to suicide, but goths are more prone to be depressed that so many people commit suicide. Plus goth's darkness is nihilistic whereas Emo's is cynical.
A lot of people seem surprised at how well Mat and Trey capture alternative Goth/Emo/Vamp subcultures. Well look at their musical history; They've had the following stars on the show; Robert Smith (The Cure) KoRn Rancid Ozzy Osbourne Joe Strummer (The Clash) Meat Loaf Devo Radiohead Primus (obviously) They've also done a pan flute version of Cars (Gary Numan) Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld Stan's band 'Crimson Dawn'. And lets not forget how rocking DVDA is. It's pretty clear that Mat and Trey have a good solid understanding and appreciation for old school rock, metal, and alternative music.
The Goth kids are the most relatable characters in the show imo (besides the fact that I don't write poems about death). They're like the Squidward of South Park.
The reason Matt and Trey did such a good job with this genre of music is because it is a different rendition of a song by The Cure. They do it all the time. Change the chord progression configuration for copyright reasons. They did Michael Jackson, Brittney Spears, Miley Cirus, Lorde and many other artist's songs in a perfect imitation style.
I just love the music, bauhaus, fields of nephilim, virgin prunes, march violets, and sisters of mercy are always with me. the bleak proccessed guitars, the broody bass lines, the tribalistic drums, and everything inspired by joy division just sounds great, i also like the atmospheric syths keyboards, when they have them, which leads to the new wave hybnridized with goth rock genre, dark wave. to me, goth means sitting in my room and listening to the music, everything else matters not.
I'm not Goth but I have a side that leans that way, Joy Division are exquisite, and some of Bauhaus and Nick Cave. It's a intense sound, suave and atmospheric, although I prefer 80s synth like Elegant Machinery, Data, Gary Numan or epic windswept Northern 80s like Echo and the Bunnymen. I liked your description of the music BTW.
To everyone wondering which groups play music that sounds like this, go listen to Rituel (song) by She passed away (band). They're turkish and sound freaking awesome.
Sounds like real 1980's goth genre music. Judging from this, Matt & Trey could make an entire post-punk album and it would be reminiscent of The Cure's Seventeen Seconds or Faith.
I can imagine these kids playing this particular song in my head with Pete on lead guitar with a synthesizing sound, Michael on bass, Henrietta on keyboard and Firkle on drums.
A spin-off would be greeeat, except the goth kids move to another city to make it original and introduce new characters. Possible states, New York, California, or if you really wanna keep it small, maybe a town somewhere in Oregon or Alaska.
i agree with you. i fuckin' love the goth kids. its really nice to get away from the main characters and focus on characters in a subculture i used to consider myself apart of. kinda reminds me of how silly i was lol
