      You should not listen to your mates, they clearly isn't very high level in padel. Crossing over to much in to your partners side will just open the court up to much, you will not gain by this, + you will make your partner feel smaller and the balls he gets he will not have any confidence in. Try to get better so that you can finish more points when you do get it. No offense, but you are still very medioker, if you start running over to a lefies side cause you think you can finish it off better, good luck. Never go more than like 60% court.
      Leftie and righty can play more aggro, on decent volleys you can close the net and go x4 a lot more, if they lob over you, your partner will always have backhand in towards middle and can cover up for you.

      I think that the level between you and Pietro is roughly similar. If you take all the easy ball , of course , Pietro will not do much winners. You are saying it was a tough fridge but from the video it was a tiny fridge. Just count the nr of shot of you and Pietro and i am sure it is around 60 / 40 .

    Some tips on how to deal with the fridge:
    -Focus on what can you do, avoid becoming frustrated, encourage your partner.
    -Observe, speak more, give helpful information about your opponents.
    -Help your partner by making his side of the court smaller by moving towards the middle.
    -Cover the net when receiving smashes so your partner can cover the back and rest.
    -When you eventually get a ball, don't overplay and try to play a winner (unless it's a clear opportunity).
    -Play diagonally, especially with lobs, so it's more difficult for your opponents to play to your partner.
    -When you would normally take the net, you can stay behind so your opponents might play on you instead of your partner, who is at the net (but don't open up diagonal lines).
    -If they then lob your partner, you can cover behind him as well (just be aware that your side is open, so play accordingly).
    -Your partner (who is not in the fridge) has to play with quality to get out of the situation, as he has to play some more difficult shot. It's not always easy.
    -Your partner should play down the line, especially lobs with high quality.
    -Your partner should go to the net, with you staying at the back, so they might lob or play to you more often.
    -Your partner should still play diagonally when he gets a good opportunity to put pressure on your opponents, especially if his best shot is a diagonal volley.
    -When your partner has played diagonally, be ready to step in towards the middle to intercept with a quick volley if your opponents play the return diagonally.
    Hope that helped.

    The fridge is THE most frustrating part of padel. To be evenly matched with your partner is probably the most important thing. So they don’t get value by picking on one guy.

    Pietro must play straight lobs to force your cross player to play you. That’s the only tactic you can do in the fridge. And risk more of course.

    • @EverythingPadel
      @EverythingPadel  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is a bit better because playing cross court has a couple advantages, such as more space in the court and more difficult to defend, but you are right, he probably still would play down the line

    • @MetalGamer666
      @MetalGamer666 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@tonisoos937 There is nothing preventing the opponent to play back down the line to Pietro. The point is that it is a more difficult shot. So the quality will be lower, and he might decide to play cross court instead. It's the same reason Pietro should take the net on his own, so his opponents might take the opportunity to play to the fridged player at the back, as it is less risky. If they lob Pietro, the fridged player should cover the whole back of the court and return the lob to get involved and let Pietro rest.

    In the 2nd round match, after noticing their tactic of playing 20 balls to Pietro before playing 1 to you, my tactic would be to replicate their strategy. I would select a bit weaker player out of the 2 and agree with Pietro to focus your game to him (At least 90% of the balls). That would make them frustrated, make 1 of them really tired, and would kick them out of the rhythm - Something they did to you. I get your frustration from their strategy and turning the game basically into 2 vs 1 with you basically being a spectator , but next time try to adopt and change something in your game plan when you see that happening.

    Ive played padel for 5 years in spain. Can I just say that from a friendly view, you need some lessons from someone who really knows. You do play well, very competetive, but your technique is not good and if you dont change soon, it will be much harder later, like for me.
    I dont want to pick on certain aspects, like letting the ball fall too low on the bajadas de pared, or dropping your pala too much on volleys, but a good coach will set you right on many things and then you will improve.
    The nevera / fridge is a horrible tactic and I never use it, I'd rather lose than think I have to do that to another couple. However, your partner should hit en parellel when it happens and then the tendancy will be for the person in parallel to him to hit diagonally to you, which happened sometimes from what I could see and yes you need to step across. You also need to play with people at a closer level to you and then it wont happen as much and he needs to lob more, higher and higher, then its harder to smash of course.
    Anyway, just my two pence worth. I can add that no one there would get into a group A match at an average club in barcelona, the difference in the level is so vast. Even the no.1 UK person would not make the worlds top 500 imho..... but we need more investment, more courts, more players.... and about 10 years to get anywhere near....
    Good luck
