Absolutely fantastic. Nile Rogers perfectly portrayed. Christabel had this coolness that allows her to keep a distance ant the same time get close and exact. Good luck to you Christabel. Your future is waiting for you to do more. Nile Rogers is a kind man with a natural personality. Love him.
Wow, this was charming to watch. All the small stories Neil told from his career. Very warm and honest. I just miss the dog collar in the final portrait. 😅. Well done.
Congratulations to Christabel! Her graphic style fitted Nile's 'coolness' perfectly, in my opinion. Nile was amazing, he has a very generous spirit. A wonderful collaboration of two artists produced a great result.
What a beautiful painting! Well done! The Royal Albert Hall got the style of painting they were looking for. They didn’t want a painting in the classical style, they wanted a modern, contemporary style of portrait of Nile. She was the best artist for the job.
Amazingly, I have watched all the years, and not one winner has dissapointed in the end. It also says something about the judges who we sometimes don't agree with. Everyone doing a great job really
Great portrait and excellent likeness. While the style may not be my personal preference, it's a really good piece and the sitter loved it, which is pretty much the entire goal of a portrait. In this competition many people, including the judges, often forget that. She gets extra admiration for being pregnant and having had the baby in the middle of the whole process.
Such a wonderful portrait, one of my absolute favourites. I am thrilled for everyone involved. Christabel was the perfect choice, and I am glad I got to see her work in general.
I'm glad Niles Rodgers enjoys his portrait, and the judges enjoy and admire her work. I think all three of the finalists are creative and excellent artists. Christobel (?) painted a lovely portrait of Mr. Rodgers, yet I really prefer the end work of the other two finalists. Preference, not criticism.
I went to college with the Sister Sledge sisters during their We Are Family days and was in a play with them I'm now painting portraiture in my later years and it seems like what I was born to do. I have won a few prizes for my art work . When I came across this video of Niles Rodgers and he began to play We Are Family all those memories came back to me. I didn't know that much about him until they started talking about his musical biography. I wish I had a belief in myself and my art work then I There is no telling where I could have been. in my art practice. Thank you for posting these programs so much learning and revelation about the art world takes places during these sessions . Thank you again for your post. Maybe I will try to paint Niles or Sister Sledge now.
Congratulations to Christabel Blackburn for her excellent portrait, both for capturing the naturalness in the Nile model and for the harmonious contrast between portrait and background.
Christabel's commissioned pieces are a whole lot better than her contest pieces...I did not like her pieces at each stage of the competition, but her commission in the final and this winner's commission were quite good
Well, there is this small difference between commission and contest - time. Whether you have just 4 hours to paint a stranger or several days, or even weeks, to portray someone you have become close to, it should definitely show on the canvas. So, the comparison doesn't make much sense.
A fine work to be sure but there is a flaw in the composition. The guitar is too far from the sitter. They could even be seen as separate paintings. To exaggerate the point one may as well leave out the guitar and write the word 'musician' or suchlike. The guitar should be closer. Even better it could be angled TOWARD the sitter. Other options surely exist but the guitar and the sitter just have to meld into one portrait.
She shouldn't have won. Inga and Toby were much better artists. I really dislike the judges. It would be great if the show's producers replaced the judges each season so that other artists' styles can be better considered and rewarded. These 3 wouldn't have chosen Michaelangelo, Rembrandt, or Paul Rubens paintings to make it into the semifinals.
Oh my god all the art critics in the room. If anything this is derivative of the portraits done of the Obamas. It is a modern style, it is very skilled. Every decision was thought out. It is wonderful whether you like the style or not. I must assume all you art critics are well paid professional artists or work in the art industry?
Meh..... nothing evocative or interesting in this painting, or reflective of his storied legacy, or stimulating for discussion, in this commission. Look at it for 3 minutes and on to the next...... Too bad. Could've been painted by any art student. He deserved more complexity befitting his varied and storied career. Best of luck to Cristabel. Wish you the best. This was an amazing opportunity that was given to you and you did what was true to your style. But it left some of us completely bored and wondering what the other two finalists could have produced.... Judges have been at this for too long. Replace please.
Yea, not a big fan of the style of this winner. Didn't think her work was the best in the moment or under broader consideration. Not sure what the judges are expecting from this middle-aged mom and wife going forward, which they talk about all the time. The artists style is not unique nor is it "classic" enuff for portraiture, in my opinion.
Gratuitously rude and nasty comment; and ageist to boot. Christabel is certainly not a 'middle-aged mom and wife', and even if she was, so what. Extraordinary how nice people get such venom from people who could try being kind. We all have our own preferences, but just try moderating your comments, please.
@@bewareofpigeons disagree. Frank and to the point. The Judges specifically referenced artists' future work as part of criteria for deciding a winner. While this artist is not old, she is middle aged (30-40) with a Husband and one child (for now) and two sets of Senior Adults to look after in next 10-20 years. Based on going forward criteria, this artist is gonna be BUSY with everything but art as her child gets older, married life gets more demanding, her parents need more attention. Nothing rude or nasty about those facts.
@@MAdams-ey4if I’m curious, if Christabel had been a man of the same age and with the same set of circumstances, ie. a husband, father, and with two sets of aging parents in the future… would you feel the same way?
She nailed it. That's him!

I wholeheartedly agree!! Brilliant pairing 🤩🤗👏👏

Perfect. She was absolutely the best pick for painting a music legend like Nile Rogers. 🎉❤
Peeeeeewwww!
Niles has such a beautiful energyband persona which was perfectly captured by Cristabels amazing work
What a brilliant show

Wow... this work was just so cool. I was not ekspected this comming due to her previous paintings during the competition. 🎉😊
The guy seems legitimately comfortable in his own skin. Quite nice. That comfort affected the artist's performance.

A lovely portrait.
Niles has the most beautiful smile!!

Great painting, but i would have liked to see more of that beautiful african hair braids

I think the background is wrong for his complexion, it numbs it down too much. To me, this was a disappointing finale.

Chistabell clearly shows her weakness as a portrait artist. All live paintings were like novice student's scribble.
WOW,............?.........
I would love to see your paintings..........
Silly response; faulty logic. Like asking the judges to show their paintings in order to judge. tsk, tsk...
Jealous? Boo boo boo

The worst I've seen in all the seasons.. amateurish and flat.

It reminds me of the portraits done of the Obamas. In fact it is very close to that style.
