My favorite was the white on black drawing of Sir Trevor McDonald, so much detail and character in that image. As an artist and retired art teacher, I find these shows relaxing, inspiring, & entertaining. I love watching any video with someone making something unique. And even if it is something I would never make myself, it’s surprising how many inspire my own art.
After watching many of these I have come to the conclusion that people like portraits that are most realistic, as much as they admire the others they most often choose the 'safe' option to take home!
The judges clearly have a totally different take than my own on what is a portrait. They consistently choose the one that they think is the least like a portrait.
Well, I do appreciate every artist’s approach and finished piece, but I personally don’t agree with their final choice. However, it’s not mine to choose so congratulations to all and to Curtis. Beautiful work, gifted artists!
Rarely do I agree with the judges' choices. They admit they choose modern. Rembrandt wouldn't be chosen as a finalist by these three. I wish the show would replace them. They are beyond annoying and not objective at all.
I do feel that some of the portraits are a bit contrived but the winner has a real belief and unique style true to himself. I’m not quite sure of the chronological order of this series as we saw the final before this episode ?!?
and the semi final too from this season....and the final commission ..kind of takes away the excitement of whose will be chosen when you already know who got the commission at the very end
I absolutely love Cutis and his new fresh take on portraits its masterful. And i think he is such a deserving winner. The judges did an excellent job to spot such a special pencil artist amongst all the gorgeous oils!
the judges seem to choose the winner from the submissions. The best painting on the day has lost the contest more than once. I love the show to see the artists and their process but the smarmy judges and the idea of having a contest where the winner is predetermined is insulting to the other people brought in to compete in a predetermined "contest"
These judges got it Wrong! That picture was barely there. It was drawn well enough, but the marks were so sparse. He didn’t even spend much time on it.
The 3 best didn’t make it to the Top 3, also out of these top 3 the best of them didn’t win; clearly the judges on this episode/season are trying to be edgy and only pick the underdogs.
Another case where the judges are trying to prove to the general public that they don't know what good art is. If you've seen this episode, you know what I mean.
I absolutely love your posts of Portrait Artist of the Year but I do wish you would post them in *chronological order*.
And number them please.
Also not post the winner on the thumbnail too .
I am obsessed with this show.

@@AFAskygoddess art is never objective, that's the point of art
Thanks again Banijay!
I totally disagree with the judges, again.......
Patricks looks like a photo. So haunting. Helen's, Danny i love too
Not sure why Helen Fox's and Jamie Ampleford's pieces didn't make the top 3...theirs were by far the best portraits for this heat

@@conniekiers9554 It really does.
guess this one is "contemporary" enough 🤣

Ty 😀
The charcoal artist was much better than the winner, but I can imagine why they chose him.
15:40 I'm eating my hat if The Vivienne didn't answer anything like "Just the tips?"
WHAT!?! None of my favourite 3 made it to the final 3 - ugh!
♥♥♥♥
Rewatching this after a few years and, once again, struck by how AWFUL the winning painting chosen by these judges is. Time for new judges, IMO.

licking the paint of your brush isn't much appealing , I must say...
It's extremely dangerous to your health and should never be done!!!

Nah
True to form the three stooges chose the worst piece 😩
None of the artists really stand out
No matter the gender, painting someone with that much makeup is more like painting an object then a real person.🫤
it‘s like painting a painting
Which absolutely makes no difference.
@@VIncentSunflowers guess it's up to each artist preference, I do prefer a more natural look.
This is the worst group of painters on this series, EVER. 😶🥱
disagree
