Do HHO Kits Work?

  • HHO Kits are a waste. If you don’t know what this is, it’s a kit that is supposed to add hydrogen and oxygen from water to supplement the air and fuel going into your engine. Here’s how it’s supposed to work - you use the energy from the alternator to run electrolysis that creates hydrogen and oxygen. You take that mixture of air and add it to the air/fuel mix, and it acts a a combustion catalyst to ensure all the fuel is burnt. The hydrogen burns at a faster flame speed, which means that the engine will ignite the fuel quicker and allow for more complete combustion. In turn, all the energy from the fuel is expelled in the engine, which creates a more efficient combustion cycle, increased power and MPG. But this isn’t true. An engine fully combusts fuel in the engine at almost all times. When the engine does run rich, we don’t want to combust that fuel - it’s used for cooling the engine, you can watch the video I did about running rich. So adding hydrogen won’t affect the burn efficiency or create more power. So any extra power would need to come directly from the HHO kit installation. The energy for electrolysis is coming from the alternator. When we add more electrical draw to the alternator, the energy losses to the engine are higher, meaning this isn’t free energy. So to understand if the HHO kit does improve power, let’s think of the HHO kit by itself - if it’s going to add power to the engine, it needs to add more power than the extra draw from the alternator. And that’s where we run into an issue - if the HHO kit did so, it would be creating energy - which is impossible. Now if you don’t believe science, Donut Media did an experiment where they installed an hho kit - and the car got the exact same mpg before and after the conversion. Now this isn’t necessarily a scientific test, but watching it was still interesting - because of this part here. During the installation, they had to mess with the O2 sensor. My guess is that this modification causes the engine to run lean. I’ve talked about how this can cause major issues, but technically tricking the engine to run lean will reduce fuel consumption. However, the HHO kit will not.

can you make a video on does fast acceleration use less fuel i am talking about accelareating to like 30 mph not to very high speed where air drag matters a lot more
