I am a Catholic high schooler and for YEARS I was a huge Taylor Swift fan. Around a couple of months ago I started growing my relationship with the Lord. As I was developing my faith, I learned how demonic Taylor’s music was. It was hard to give up secular music like hers but since I stopped listening to this music, my faith GREW! It just goes to show how the devil influences your life in such subtle ways. Thank you for making this video ❤

I absolutely hate that my daughters love Taylor Swift and so do all their friends. Its not because Taylor's music is really all that bad, its actually tamer than a lot of what is on the radio today, and she is a fairly good songwriter/poet and singer. But its just become a cult of girlboss pride and there is just so much more to the world than her little collection. Its more demonic in that its an idol that everyone is worshipping without really understanding the power it has in our culture and over our minds. Which I try to show my girls in various methods, since simply shutting the Swiftie thing down will clearly backfire.

We have to be sure to not consume content that will separate us from God. Aristotle said it well, "If you listen to the wrong kind of music, you will turn into the wrong kind of person"

As a protestant Christian lady, I have listened to her since before 2014..especially blankspace I just sensed God showing me telling me no...don't listen to her anymore and I never was a big fan of her or anything & I'm so thankful that I listened to God!

It's not a controversial take..her lyrics are opposite of the teachings and values that the Church espouse. I don't understand how 1 can listen to music against what the Church teaches and try and compartmentalize it.

Thing is once you get past the hype and obsession society currently has with Taylor Swift, which is constantly telling you how incredibly amazing she is, you realize that her music is incredibly average and doesn't really have anything substantial to say. It becomes so easy to just ignore her and delete her music from your library after that.

I believe Taylor Swift is what Madonna was in the 80s. The only difference, and it's a major one, is that the internet is not part and parcel of daily life so it is much easier to discover Taylor (or Madonna for that matter).

No it isn't. She is an incredible songwriter. In every single way. Lyrically, melodically, instrumentally, etc. And I say this as a 38 year old that only really started listening to her in 2019.

Nathalie, you are very bold to make a video about this even if others have made videos about this. I was a superfan of Taylor until her "You Need To Calm Down" video, well to be honest it was when she switched from country to pop, then my fervor for her began to dwindle heavily. A few of her recent songs have resonated, but I too am choosing not to listen to her anymore as i realized many of her early songs, I'm old enough that I grew up on her debut album and Fearless, contributed to my obsession with having a boyfriend or just boys in general.

Let me start by saying that you should do what feels right for you. If Taylor Swift's music leads you to doubt or sin, it’s best to avoid it. However, accusing her of witchcraft or demonic lyrics seems extreme. People often take lyrics out of context without considering the entire body of work.
In her songs, Taylor often sings about the consequences of not taking advice, believing she can fix someone, and idolizing them as true love. This often leaves her feeling sad and broken, as seen in songs like "Loml" and "How Did It End." She doesn't glorify these actions but rather shows how they leave her in ruins. Taylor also criticizes idolization in songs like "But Daddy I Love Him" and "Clara Bow."
Regarding accountability, she openly addresses her faults in "Anti-Hero."
Psalm 73 speaks about doubt, and the book of Job shows a man questioning God while still being counted as righteous. God desires our honesty and emotions. Expressing our feelings through writing is not condemned but encouraged.
A significant issue among Christians today is legalism and judging others on ambiguous issues. This approach doesn't bring people to Christ but often turns them away. Taylor's album addresses idolizing people and the destruction it brings, highlighting her recognition of life's issues without knowing the solution.
As Christians, instead of condemning and turning her away, we should be helping guide her to Christ. The church is not just for saints but for sinners seeking redemption. Remember who Christ surrounded himself with.

Hi, Natalie! I hope you're doing good ❤
First of all, I want to thank you and congratulate you on the first portion of this video. I think it's very important to point out we speak from our personal point of view and invite the viewer to reflect on their own opinion. I don't see many youtubers / vloggers / bloggers / writers do that anymore, and I think we can connect that to this "cult-like" behaviour you mentioned.
I'm not a Taylor Swift fan simply because I never connected much with her music. I do have a couple of her songs in my library, such as "Ours" and the acoustic version of "Red," which I enjoy.
I too have stopped listening to a few musicians and no longer engage with influencers who I feel hinder my relationship with God.
I think it's important to acknowledge a few points first: TS (to my knowledge) has never claimed to be a Catholic, and I think it's safe to say religion has become almost a synonym to culture, specially in the USA.
When we think about it, we can link so many daily sayings and practices and morals and ethics that come from Christianity. I think TS doesn't write her lyrics with the intention of making fun of religion, it's just the culture she was brought up in and it's normalised to her and everyone else who's not a Church member.
However, I do think the industry and all the people behind it that manage these artists' public image and marketing are the ones we have to be weary of and pay very close attention. They are the ones creating these beehive minds / cult-like following. They are the ones who dictate"What's in" and "What's out" and brainwash the people into hating themselves and pushing them away from God.
I want to applaud you once again for speaking with gentleness and understanding. Unfortunately, these topics seem to ignite the most vicious and horrible sentiments out of both atheists and Christians alike who seem to forget all about Jesus' teachings when it comes to talking... Just today I unfollowed one of the top 5 Catholic accounts on Instagram because they posted an awful video using our faith as an excuse to spew unfiltered hatred that did nothing but separate our society even more instead of working to bring us together.
People need to be more conscious about what they say and the impact our words have, no matter how big or small our audience is.
    God bless you 😊🤍

I stopped listening when Taylor Swift left country music. I thought even less of her when she did not tweet a eulogy for Toby Keith Covel. He signed her to her 1st record contract.
Meanwhile, Shania Twain tweeted a eulogy. She and Toby Keith Covel toured together before they were famous. Shania Twain is a friend to the end. ❤

Okay, coming to Taylor Swift's defence here in particular ( 12:30 ), She's playing a character in this song, someone so convinced of her own ability to save someone by herself. The hubris is an intentional element of the song. The kicker is the final line, when she is forced to admit that she was wrong, and she really can't save him. (Though this really isn't a 'twist' ending or anything, the "No really, I can" is meant to sound like someone trying to convince herself more than others).
The only thing I can say in defence of "Guilty as Sin" is that I don't take it to be a "joke" or a "nonchalant" song. It seems to be about a woman struggling with understanding the boundaries of chastity and desire. Western art has used Christian imagery for hundreds of years to capture certain truths about human experience. Think of how many 'Christ figures' crop up in literature and film, for example. We risk the slippery slope of puritanism if we are too quick to condemn the use of religious imagery in secular art.
I think my fundamental point in this comment is that one can virtuously consume media as long as they have a firm grasp on how to properly understand the themes of the works, and how their own views relate to them. I mean, Shakespeare has a lot of questionable themes and content, and I doubt many people nowadays will tell kids "Stop reading Romeo and Juliet, they are way too young to get married, and people are killing each other!"

I didn’t listen before I became Catholic! I pretty much stopped listening after age 16 (my Protestant parents didn’t approve even then) because her lyrics were just silly but as an adult and now Catholic convert of 8+ years, I absolutely do not endorse her music in any way because it’s now sacrilegious! I don’t want my children listening or watching either. She’s sold her soul and it’s sad to watch yet another artist do so… for fame, money, prestige… All fleeting. All at so high a cost... I pray for her and others like her though.

Since Taylor Swift began including Satanic themes in her music, I've chosen to stop listening until she returns home to Christ and Christian music producing. Whenever she does that it's as if she's saying to us Judai-Christians that she doesn't want anything to do with us socially and spiritually. Thank you for bringing this up, look forward to more, and God Bless you, Nathalie

Hey Natalie! Great work! Now, I'm a 30 year old guy (Catholic my whole life too lol), and Taylor Swift was never someone I actively followed, but I think she is a prime example of maybe components working together.
A talented youth; the materialism and glamour of the world enticing that youth; making small compromises; learning the language and parroting the catchphrases of the world to maintain a positive image; the world chewing up youth in order to both create and sell drama, sin, etc.; fans following along for better or worse; those fans no longer being inspired to compete at their local levels, but wanting fame on a global scale; the cycle of self-cannibalism continues. Over-simplifying of course, but I think that summarizes her, and many others, rather well.

I'm proud of you. The world-system does not like the Abrahamic Religions because we care more about God our Creator than pleasure. The world says, "If it feels good, it must be good!" God didn't design the Universe that way.
If you believe Taylor Swift is not good for your relationship with God, don't worry about what the world thinks. The world didn't create you and give you the gift of life. The World does not have your best interests at heart. In fact, the World, generally speaking, will hate you if the disagree with The World.
We are called to love our neighbor, our fellow humans. But, we are not called to conform to the World.
Taylor Swift has the temporal liberty to live her life. But, you also have the liberty to live your life. If it comes down to a choice between God and Taylor Swift, choose the one who loves you. Taylor Swift doesn't need your money. You don't need her fallible "wisdom".
Taylor Swift belongs to God her creator. She was made to live her life, and you were made to live yours. If she choses not to live for God, that's between her and God.

It is crazy to suggest we should give more leeway and make more excuses for priests rather than for Taylor Swift... exact type of thinking that allowed the abuse scandal. Taylor isn't Catholic, never has been, and doesn't care if you think she's demonic. This focus among American Catholics on moralizing about pop culture and other minor but controversial issues of the day instead of actually important issues like poverty is why I and many others have left Catholicism.
