Thank you so much for that! I was thinking the same thing. Judy had such a big heart and fantastic sense of humor and she really enjoyed/appreciated talent. That’s why she had some of the greatest stars on her tv show - loved to embrace her fellow artists!

Actually, the person she is mainly making fun of here is Betty Hutton, who followed Judy at the Palace. Hutton would always put a towel around her neck after changing into a robe, talking about how rough her life was. Of course, there is a lot of Judy in here too, the bluebird/sitting on the stage references. It's all in fun.

That's why Channing assumed the audience was as much in on the show business jokes as she was said. Some of the show was truly naughty, and all of the show was sutble but she took it successfully to many places with great success.

You’re being TOO literal. This was a character that was drawing on several leading ladies of the time, listen to the audience they get the references and laugh. Maybe it’s just to sophisticated for your expectations

judy was a lesbian..she married Minnelli also gay...to stop the rumors at MGM about her and her lesbian secretary.. she had Liza marry Peter Allen also gay for the same reason..people ask why the gay following?...because it takes one to know one!
That's a crock. She was far from lesbian, she just happened to marry three gay men, perhaps even four. It's no secret that Liza's been married to three. They KNEW who they were marrying , not many straight men wear eyeshadow and eyeliner. Smh

Her father was gay, and was the main source of kindness in her young life. She may have been attracted to similar types (Freudian).
