She's no making this up. A real record was made in 1964 I guess, a compilation of the thundering applause she`d been getting everywhere, made only for Marlene, of course.
Judy never looked better (to me) than in these first two interviews. Read "Marlene Dietrich by Her Daughter" by Maria Riva. Yes, she was an egomaniac, but she was a genius at creating and maintaining her own legend. It's never just luck.
Marlene Dietrich by Her Daughter - by Maria Riva. "My mother was a magnificent actress, and as a human being, a monster. The "diva" destroyed a lot of people's lives. She walked all over people's hearts. She destroyed Maria, but Maria triumphed. She didn't "punish" her mother, she portrayed her in every aspect. A brilliant piece of literature! But Riva didn't live long after that. Her childhood killed her.
I can hear some of Renee in this she actually got the speaking voice down quite well. Also Judy is correct Marlene wasnt a great singer yet when she sings "where have all the flowers gone" its really beautiful and often leaves me in tears
Marlene is just so silly! I bet Judy and Marlene were good friends, although Judy may sound a little rude sometimes. But Marlene bringing in a record of just applause is just hilarious! She just wants to show everyone how well she did performing at all different kinds of places. Marlene forever! 💖
Watch the documentary "Marlene" Maximillian Schell made. Marlene only agreed to if for the money, then refused to appear on camera or even have her apartment filmed. She was drunk and rude through most of it. When she watched it, she claimed it was an impostor and threatened to sue. Its really interesting because she lies about having a sister, even though Schell showed a photo of them together.

Why was Judy jealous of Marlene? Marlene was not a great singer but she had this unmistakable aura about her. Both Judy and Marlene are legends in the business.
This story is true. Dietrich's promoter made the record for her to cheer her up because some difficult things happened to her when she was in Germany. A little girl spit on her and others carried signs saying "Marlene Go Home!" etc. She hadn't been in Germany since the death of her mother following the war and was unsure what reception she would receive.
Poor Judy, in 1964 she still looked good and still had her cutting wit and sharp acuity. However only 3 years later in 1967, the alcohol and pills had really taken a toll. It was around this time, maybe a year earlier, that many of her friends said the Judy had lost something. She wasn't as sharp and lost her quick wittiness. You can clearly see it in later interviews she did around that time, from 1966/67 until her death. She looked awful and slowed down intellectually. Rest in Peace Judy.

I wonder if Miss Garland heard about Maria Callas's faux pas with Miss Dietrich (and, if so, what would she have thought of it)? Long-short is that for a time, Miss Dietrich became enthralled with Miss Callas-. Offstage, Miss Dietrich took great pride in skillfully cooking sumptuous meals for her family, friends and flames to impress them. To that goal, Miss Dietrich took 8 pounds of U.S. Grade A beef which she boiled and strained over and over again many times over quite a few hours to transform it into 8 OUNCES of beef bouillon which she proudly served to Miss Callas. Miss Callas sipped it then remarked 'Very good. What brand of CUBES do you use?'- Yep, that abruptly ended Miss Dietrich's interest in Miss Callas!

Patrick, I saw her six nights in a row in Westbury, Long Island in 1967. I was able to get someone to let me meet her. Her performances were wonderful, and I couldn't believe how great she treated me ... at that time a I was a little 19-year-old nobody from Mississippi, and she said to me, "You're Robert, and you've come from ... oh my dear, is it Mississippi? to see me, and I think you're just MARVELOUS."
